The Clean Beauty Box June/July 2020 "Sublime Glow" Review

Each month, The Clean Beauty Box features an artist to design their box and info booklet. This month features an earthy-toned arch pattern by North Sea Studios. This booklet has info on the brand, the products, and instructions on how to best use what is inside!

OKOKO Sublime Balm, 5 ml - Estimated Value $15.83 (Buy 30 ml for $95.00)

I really love balms like this because they feel good on the dried areas of my face, especially around my eyes and nostrils. This balm has loads of goodness inside to help your skin look brighter and feel great. This brand is incredibly plant-focused and it shows. The biggest callouts here are lycopene from tomatoes (brightening and smoothing), beta carotene from carrots (amps up cell turnover), pomegranate sterols (for hydration), and the super antioxidant astaxanthin (anti-aging). Also inside is seabuckthorn oil, which adds to the golden shade of this balm. I find that the orange hue does show up a little on my skin, but it actually looks like I have a healthy glow rather than making me look like I am weirdly orange. I loved using this at night on the especially dry areas of my face as a last step over a lighter moisturizer to just add a little extra hydration and glow in the morning.

OKOKO L'Elixer de Pureté, 30 ml - Retail Value $150.00

I was incredibly excited to try this serum because of the Dragon's Blood extract. This ingredient actually comes from a resin and it is loaded with antioxidants. It also gives this serum its intoxicating incense sort of fragrance that might be familiar to a lot of people. There is also niacinamide inside (to brighten), along with willow bark and pomegranate to gently exfoliate. This serum is on the watery side, but it just takes a few drops to coat your face. I like to rub it between my palms after cleansing and pat into my skin, following up with a moisturizer after. While it feels a little tacky at first, let it dry down before your next product. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and weightless, and doesn't have any weird interactions with my follow-up sleep mask or moisturizer. I am looking forward to using this long term. It feels really special!

Here is a shot of the consistency! It is very watery, but still somehow feels rich, and has a slight orange tint.

Verdict: The Clean Beauty Box introduced me to a new Canadian brand that I really like! You can tell these formulas are thoughtfully created and they feel incredibly natural but also very high-end. I really enjoyed how they sent a balm and a serum that can be combined in a routine or used solo. The overall value here is pretty amazing too since the serum alone has a retail value of $150. The balm adds an additional $15.83, for a total of $165.83.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I am curious about the scent as I have never burned incense. Is it earthy?

It is like an earthy, resinous scent but also kind of botanical and sweet? If feels like it could be related to patchouli, but with much less of the ‘hippy’ sort of vibes.

Carey

Per the box’s website the balm is 5ml and worth $22. 🙂

Thanks Carey! Per our usual MSA format, I did break it down by estimation calculation for volume vs. cost of full size. I also adjusted the value verdict! Thanks for the eagle eyes! <3
