Our Ipsy Glam Bag Ultimate June 2020 Review

Heads up! This is the first month of a new IPSY profile personalized especially to me. Per reader request (thanks ya'll!) I will also be partaking in choice items in the future as well, starting in July.

For this reason, there are a few duplicate items this month. IPSY doesn't usually send dupes frequently, so I just wanted to mention the new profile is likely exactly why this happened.

Thanks to you all for your helpful comments and suggestions!

It looks like this booklet is again not a list of items. I do miss those because they give so much info! Maybe next month.

This month, our bag is a boxy light blue number with some cuties all sunbathing.

Now, on to the items!

Shaina B. Cosmetics Mini Miami Blush and Highlight Palette – Retail Value $20.00

This palette has a golden highlighter along with three pink blush options. The highlighter is quite shimmery and warm, but just a little looks really soft and natural! The blushes are split between a golden pearl light pink, a matte pink, and a shimmering rose. All look really lovely when I tried them with my big fluffy powder brush and gave my cheeks such a soft glow and rosiness.

A nice, soft pink.

Doucce Freematic Limited Edition Smokey Pro Palette

I have mixed feelings on this palette. The highlighter was really hard and dry and took a lot of work to swatch. The matte shadows were also not super pigmented, though they do make nice sheer shadows. The 4 metallic shades were really great though, and downright firey! Doucce is a brand I don't generally reach for because I find I just never know what I am going to get. Thankfully, this palette has removable pans and is magnetic, so I can remove the shades I don't love and add in other metallic Doucce shadows from my stash instead. The compact itself is heavy and features a large mirror, so I will def keep it close by!

Left: the 'Solstice' highlighter. Shadows from top to bottom: Amanda, Kinsley, Hannah, and Hillary.

Top to bottom: Mila, Courtney, Gigi, and Tenley

theBalm AUTOBALM PIC PERF Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $26.50

I feel like theBalm always has such cute product packaging. This one is license plate themed and inside there are 7 shadows and a primer. The shades chosen for the eyeshadows all have street names and I like all of them! The only one that seemed a little wimpy was the olive 'Pennsylvania Ave' shade, but the color is quite lovely and worth a little extra effort. It and 'St. Charles Ave' are both mattes while the rest are all shimmery or metallic. Also included was a tan-colored primer that helps the shadows stick around longer and gives them more depth but also changed the colors to darker shades.

Top to bottom: Broadway, Sunset Blvd, Market St, Ocean Dr, and Rodeo Dr

Top to bottom: The primer, St. Charles Ave, and Pennsylvania Ave

Il Makiage Infinity Long-Wear Matte Lip Cream in 'Geisha', 5.5 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $22.00

This might be an odd thing to comment on, but this tube is made of really heavy frosted glass! The first thing I noticed was how heavy it was. It felt really luxe! Matte formulas are hit or miss for me because my lips are dry and I am also a lip biter (I know, I know) so if they are TOO dry, they just highlight the uneven surface of my lips. This formula is really nice! It does dry down enough to look like a true matte, but it always feels flexible. There was minimal transfer when I kissed the back of my hand, but its' a trade-off I am willing to make for such a velvet finish. The red is like sexy siren red! I feel very confident in this shade and it is cool enough to make my teeth look a little whiter. This shade lasted 4 hours without budging, until my slightly greasy lunch ruined our time together.

Hot red!

Huda Beauty Basic B Sponge  - Retail Value $17.00

I love Huda Beauty but I literally have SO many beauty sponges right now. I would have preferred one of her gorgeous eyeshadow palettes, though I guess we have already opened three in this review and four might have been a little crazy! This is a nice sponge and is totally what you would expect. It is a great tool for applying liquid foundations or creating a dewy highlighter look.

Céla Creme The Very Best Crème Rose, 4 oz – Full Size! Retail Value $39.00

I really wanted to love this cream, but I just don't like the smell. From the description, I was expecting a true rose scent, but instead it smells like a mix of a bunch of different flowers combined with very sweet fruit, and just isn't natural enough for my nose to appreciate. The formula is great though and I know a lot of dry hands out there that will be thrilled with this pricy cream!

Dr. Brandt pores no more® Luminizer Primer, 1 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $38.00

I have been seeing this product a lot this season, but luckily, I really like it! It gives my skin a great dose of hydration and enough shimmer to blur my larger pores. It makes my skin look fresh enough to feel ok with skipping foundation, but when I do wear foundation on top, my skin keeps that soft and natural lit-from-within look. I also really adore the soft smell of this stuff because it reminds me of some Sisley scents!

Laura Geller Spackle Mist Restore with Coconut Water, 4 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $32.00

This mist has coconut oil inside, so some people might not love it for their face. I have never noticed anything negative with using coconut oil on my noggin personally, but even if you prefer not to, this is a nice mist! Toss the bottle in the fridge and spritz on your legs and arm post-sun for a natural coconut scent and a refreshing feel, as well as a little hydration! You can also use it to set your makeup. The nozzle gives that true light mist we all love so no worries about applying too much.

Ciaté London Wonderwand Mascara, size unknown - Buy a full-size 9.5 mL for $22.00

This was a pretty nice mascara that gave my lashes a dark coating and defined them well. It wasn't like a DRAMA sort of mascara, but I tend to avoid those anyways in favor of more subtle formulas. The brush itself was larger with bristles, and the whole thing had like this twist to it that helped catch and coat all of my lashes.

NatureLab Tokyo Perfect Repair Treatment Masque, 1 fl oz- Estimated Value $2.39 (Buy a full-size 6.7 oz for $16.00)

I like this brand a lot ever since trying their shampoo and conditioner. This is a masque that has a really great aromatic scent! I applied it to damp hair (everywhere but my scalp!) and left on for 10 minutes. The directions say 3-5, but I forgot I had it on. Oops. When I washed my hair it felt super silky and def. had more shine power after air drying. For the price, this is a great hair mask to have on hand and it has gone into my little online shopping cart.

Biorace Pore Tightening Pearl Clay Mask, 1 oz - Estimated Value $6.44 (Buy a full-size 3.88 oz for $25)

I am not a huge clay mask fan, and I have been having some serious issues with 'maskne' from wearing those masks so often. Not cute. I have been using clay masks along my jawline on and off for the last few weeks and it seems to help. Depending on color and ingredients in the mask, it also makes me look like I have a beard which is SUPER fun! This one doesn't have that added benefit but it does have a little bit of exfoliating texture and pearl extract, which my skin tends to enjoy. This will also be a good treat for Will who I occasionally catch applying clay masks to his nose in secret.

Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra Clarifying Acne Treatment Face Oil, 5 mL - Estimated Value $11.43 (Buy 35 mL for $80.00)

Our last item is actually one I have never tried! Again, totally experiencing some breakouts along my jawline these days so seeing an acne OIL was really exciting. You all know I love oils! This stuff is a super fun green shade and though the sample is smaller (Boo!) it should last quite a while since it takes very little to cover that area of my face. Inside is a 1.5% salicylic acid which is an acne fighter I have always relied on for spot treatments. It can be drying, so this oil adds in cucumber seed oil and milk thistle to calm your skin. I like this oil a lot and totally see myself buying more if these mask spots don't calm down.

Verdict: While I couldn't verify the prices of the Doucce palette and the Ciaté London mascara sample, the rest of the box adds up to a healthy $214.76, which is a lot of value for a $50 box. It was also a great assortment of old and new brands and I liked the majority of the items inside this month, though there were certainly a few I may have passed on if given the option. It felt a little crazy to have three palettes in one box, but I love palettes so I enjoyed that. If you are on palette overload, this might have felt like a lot. I am pretty excited to see what arrives in July, especially since choice happens on 6/24 and it will be my first time choosing.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. The next Ultimate shipment will be in July! As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist. Check here to see what month you’ll get first.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $50 so each of the 12 items has an average cost of $4.17 (this calculation does not include the bag!).

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

WHERE are the ultimate spoilers?!

Marion

Some July Choice spoilers are on the blog: https://www.ipsy.com/blog/july-2020-choice-spoilers

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

Yeah I saw those, but I want real spoilers!

Carol Ann

The spackle water has coconut water in it, not coconut oil. Just a minor correction 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

Yes, i’ve seen those two confused on reviews here before as well. Important difference though because coconut oil is comedogenic, whereas coconut water is non-comedogenic.

Is anyone else having ipsy shop/shopper orders being canceled.

I annoyed with ipsy. I keep having the shopper orders canceled by them

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Not yet,but I’m annoyed that my GB and GBP are somewhere in shipping limbo for over 3 weeks. Ipsy doesn’t even know my packages current location.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Need to see Ultimate spoilers.

Reply ButtonReply

Martina

Really want to know the July spoiler for the ipsy ultimate box.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

Me too! It’s been a week since they showed spoilers for gb & gbp. Where are they?!

Reply ButtonReply

Lori

It’s weird! Ipsy did a video earlier with July spoilers for GB and GBP, but none for Ultimate.. I wonder what’s happening…

Tiffany

Why so much eye shadow? I’d never go to pick up any of them for use. They would sit there and take up space.

Everything else in the box looks more worth it though.

I skipped this month and for once, no FOMO! I totally understand having lots of repeats and old product due to COVID, I’m just glad I didn’t get any of it.

I wanted that Il Makiage lipstick, but now that I see the color, I’m so glad I didn’t. It’s nice, just not me. Win for the month. My GB and GBP were great!

Alice

I skipped Ultimate, too. Didn’t need or want any of the spoilers I saw.

Megan, the mascara is 3.5 ml. You can click on the Ciate mascara in your profile & read about it there. This month, they actually do list the size of the mascara in the product description (I find they often don’t), but even if it’s not listed in the section just below the product photo, you can scroll down, down past the reviews section to see a “product details” section, which should have the size + ingredients. This info is available for every product that ipsy sends.

I like Il Makiage as a brand; I’m disappointed that they have a product named “Geisha.” Women go through years of training to perform this job, which has become culturally significant to the country of Japan. “Geisha” is not a costume/persona someone should put on like a lipstick.

This box was great for me with one exception: The Sunday Riley stuff stunk so bad that it actually made me retch and I have an extremely strong stomach. The best I can do to explain the smell is to say it smelled like Nair mixed with rancid chili oil and old bongwater. And its SUPER greasy as in it did not absorb into my skin at all (in fairness I had to wash it off after ten minutes because of the smell but it was still like a grease smear sitting on top of my skin). 10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
I canceled my Boxycharm, which frankly has hit new lows lately, to get this and I am not sorry.

I find SR products to be a stink fest overall. That ICE is horrendous and the Good Genes reeks as well. Not a fan. I tolerated the CEO oil cleanser.

Kathleen

I love that hand cream. And I like the scent

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Me, too. It’s a mainstay for me.

Bonnie

That Sunday Riley Acne Oil smells so bad! So far I’m happy with the way it works, but the stink!

And I hate Doucce’s powder products. I like their mascara and liquid lipstick a lot, but all their powder products just don’t deliver ANY pigement.

Also Beth

Agreed! $1 palettes I’ve gotten from the dollar store for costumes perform better than the Doucce palette I’ve received.

Reply ButtonReply

Jacki

Wow 3 palettes

Reply ButtonReply

Also Beth

I’m trying so hard to get my boxes to just include ONE palette. Just every once in a while. JUST GIVE ME ONE.

A three-palette month would be a dream to me tbh, especially if one was The Balm.

JEM

My only thought haha

Megan Accordino

Wow, yeah that’s what I was thinking!! I’d sign up for that, but I’m sure it would never happen again!

Beth

I usually get 2 palettes in my gbu. However I have received 3. I also have gotten only 1 in a few bags. I do enjoy getting those 1 palette bags as I get several full size cleansers, exfoliants, body wash, etc. It’s always a nice mix.

I dunno I was pretty pissed about my Ipsy bags because I got five different duplicate items across my three bags. My plus bag has three duplicate items. I am very annoyed.

I was really surprised at how much I liked that mascara. I have gotten such an overdose of Ciate Products. It seems that brand pops up in almost every subscription box. I really loved it once I tried it. It was none clumpy, and I could apply multiple coats without it looking bad.
