May 2020 MoonBox “The Star” Review
Every month, MoonBox sends a box guide full of info for keeping up with the stars and moon cycles as well as plenty of rituals to follow.
Moons of Gemini Calendar
This month celebrates Gemini season, which is usually the kick-off of our most social sign/season, but given our current circumstances, we are being challenged to guide that social energy to look within. This calendar reveals the moon cycle of Gemini season with a pair of twins, Gemini's symbol.
The Better Skin Co Gel Kleanse, 2 fl oz - Estimated Value $8 (Buy a full-size 5.5 fl oz for $22)
This foaming cleanser has such a pleasant, citrusy fragrance. I enjoyed using this on my face because it wasn't overly drying, but it isn't a cleanser that is going to dissolve any makeup you are wearing. It would be great to use as the second step of a double cleanse. This cleanser uses French lava, charcoal, green tea, and aloe to purify and soothe all skin types.
Só Luxury USA Charcoal Cleansing Bar, 0.65 g - Retail Value $7
This bar soap is a repeat item that I received from the September 2019 MoonBox. Usually, I get irritated when I get duplicate items from the same subscription, but I loved this bar soap so much the first time around that I was pumped to see it in this month's box. Here is what I had to say about it the first time around:
Cocoa butter, olive oil, coconut milk and activated charcoal are the 4 ingredients to this bar making it not only hydrating but purifying for your skin. Typically purifying soaps tend to dry my skin out, but Só Luxury’s version is packed with ingredients that leave your skin feeling moisturized and not stripped. I also want to note that this soap is black, so I’d suggest keeping it in a soap dish away from any water to prevent a real mess.
NCLA Beauty Nail Lacquer in Gemini - Retail Value $18 (currently on sale for $8)
NCLA Beauty is one of my favorite nail lacquer and lip balm brands. Their formulas are vegan, cruelty-free, and 7-free, and I just generally love their aesthetic as a whole.
This pink is described on their website as vibrant, yet subtle, and I'd have to disagree with them; this is the perfect bubblegum pink, and it totally pops! I usually only wear bright pink on my toes, but this color really lifted my spirits every time I looked down at my hands today. It brushed on smoothly and was opaque with two coats.
Soon Beauty Biocellulose Brightening Face Mask - Retail Value $22
Wow! I have never tried such a bougie mask! $22 is steep for a single-use mask. It has awesome ingredients like arbutin for brightening, niacinamide for clarity/enlarged pores, and hyaluronic acid for hydration. My biggest complaint about sheet masks is the added fragrance, but this one was very subtle and pleasant.
Who doesn't love an unflattering mask selfie?! Haha, the first photo was taken before I realized there was another layer to peel off to get it more fitted to my face. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't laying quite right... smh! It was much more comfortable after that third layer was gone, but it was challenging trying to keep this thing on as I peeled the third layer off.
Green Tourmaline in Quartz
My crystal this month is pretty small; it is also not as green as I'd hoped after seeing others of this variety online. This stone is used to stimulate joys for life and compassion.
The Verdict: MoonBox's "The Star" Box for May had a nice array of products this month. I really love the NCLA Gemini nail color, and the bar soap and mask were also awesome finds. I wish this month had one more item to offset the cost of the box, but I generally really liked this month's curation. The value of this box usually just about meets its subscription cost, and if you're someone who loves astrology and crystals, then this is a great box to treat yourself with each month.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you'll receive the June box.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $34.00 + $2.75 shipping, which means that each of the 5 items in the box has an average cost of $7.35.
