July 2020 BeautyFIX Review

This box comes with a booklet detailing each of the items included. We have 8 different items this month, so strap in!

Emma Hardie Moringa Light Cleansing Gel, 15 mL - Estimated Value $7.05 (Buy 100 mL for $47.00)

Emma Hardie is one of those brands I always forget about until another sample passes my desk and I remember how much I enjoy this brand's cleansers. They always work well, leave my face feeling great, and they smell divine. This is a clear gel formula that you should 100% shake before opening or it will just be a puddle of oil in your hand. The combo of cleansers and oil does double duty here: it removed dirt and makeup from my face but left behind a soft and hydrated finish.

Murad Environmental Shield Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum, 0.25 fl oz - Estimated Value $18.00 (Buy a full-size 1 fl oz for $72.00)

This formula is ideal for those out there who have dark spots or hyperpigmentation from sun damage or age spots. The combo of glycolic acid and hydroquinone works together to exfoliate and fade those darker areas over time. This formula does feel a little harsh on my face which is probably from the denatured alcohol, which I find extra drying to my already dry face. I don't really have dark spots or discoloration on my face, but I do have them all over the backs of my hands so I might try this longer there.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, 1 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $29.00

I really do enjoy this eye cream and I feel like I have seen it so often in boxes lately that I have passed it on to multiple friends and my mom! The coffee scent is mild and creamy, and even I like it. It is also one of those products where you can easily understand the majority of the ingredient list which is always a plus. Inside is a soothing and hydrating combo of caffeine from green tea, aloe, soothing botanicals, and vitamins C & E. While this isn't the sort of treatment that will likely dramatically change your eye skin long term (other than the given benefits of proper hydration), it certainly provides instant brightness and plumpness, and it feels really great.

R+Co SUN CATCHER Power C Boosting Leave-In Conditioner, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $7.62 (Buy a full-size 4.2 oz for $32.00)

This might be my favorite item of the whole box. I LOVE this smell! I would legit wear it as a perfume. I also use leave-in conditioners a lot since I have dry hair and I like to sleep on it wet or let it air dry. This formula has hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and vegetable collagen to add strength and smoothness to my strands. It certainly adds luster and makes me smell great! It is a thicker cream texture, so a little goes a long way, especially on damp hair. This was an * add to cart * item for me.

Dr. Brandt 3D Lip Plumpfix, 0.17 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $39.00

I already have full lips but I still enjoy some plumpers out there. This was one I had never tried and I have mixed feelings. This packaging design is double-ended, featuring two connected tubes for night and day use. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me since my night lip product lives on my nightstand and any plumpers tend to stay in my purse, but whatever. The day option had that very familiar tingle and did seem to plump up my lips a little:

The night side seems to just be a heavy-duty moisturizer that mostly sat on top of my lips. My issue with both is that they each had a pretty terrible taste. I know this is par the course for a lot of plumping lip treatments, but the results just weren't worth that flavor to me personally.

Avène Skin Recovery Cream, 5 mL - Estimated Value $3.50 (Buy a full-size 50 mL for $35.00)

Avène is a brand I tend to enjoy, but this cream fell a little flat for me. This sample is very small, though I will admit a little goes a long way. This cream just felt pretty normal to me, like something I could find at a drugstore or really, anywhere. The ingredient list is also really short (which is not a bad thing!). Inside is a mix of mostly water, mineral oil, glycerine, and squalane. It didn't have a scent to my nose. I did find it moisturizing and hydrating, I was just otherwise a little underwhelmed. This is probably a really great cream for skin that is more sensitive and reactive than mine is. I personally just need a few more bells and whistles to part with my $$$.

La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum, 3 mL - Estimated Value $2.90 (Buy a full-size 30 mL for $29.00)

I also have conflicting feelings on this one. I have been on a kick to avoid denatured alcohol as it is really drying to my skin. Not all alcohols are bad or drying, but this one seems to trigger my cheeks in a weird way. Otherwise, I would be totally into this serum: it has hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and panthenol, all of which are great for skin, helping to improve moisture levels, texture, and firmness.

HUM Nutrition Hair Sweet Hair, 14 gummies - Estimated Value $5.83 (Buy a full-size 60 count for $25.00)

Finally, our last item is a little mini pot of 14 hair vitamins. These were SO yummy. Like, the type of yummy where you may be tempted to just snack on them. Oops. Inside is biotin, zinc, and folic acid, all of which encourage strong hair growth. These don't really start to show a difference for at least 4 weeks, so I am unable to report back if anything actually happened to my hair, but I can give them two thumbs way up in terms of taste.

Verdict: This month's BeautyFIX has a value of $112.90 which is great for a $24.95 box. This month included 2 full-size items too, which is always nice. I felt the overall curation was a little quiet, though most things are arguably super useable. I think I was missing something super exciting this month? I know that is a lot to ask from a box every single month, but I am always looking to be wowed. I did get a new tube of one of my fave eye creams and found my new favorite leave-in conditioner though, so I do think this month was totally worth it.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

Jan – type in august 2020 beautyfix in the search bar on their website and it should show you the products that will be in the box. It’s not an exciting box 🙁

Hi Jan, I googled Beautyfix August 2020 and it took me to a page on Dermstore’s website that showed the contents of the August box. Dr Loretta eye gel, Dermstore wet bag, Dermelect rapid repair moisturizer, Living Proof Dry shampoo, First Aid Beauty Liquid mineral sunscreen and Tula Detox in a jar Exfoliating treatment.

Jan

Hi Wendy – I just went to the Dermstore site and looked for the August Beautyfix box. The most recent display I could find was last month, July. How were you able to see the August contents? I’m really anxious to see what they are too, since I have already been charged for this month. Thanks!

Kristin

I haven’t ordered a Beauty fix box in a year. I haven’t missed it at all. The only thing I would’ve like from this box is the Emma Hardie.

I think it’s worth noting for those interested, the boxes are actually $34.95 not $24.95. The boxes are $24.95 IF you subscribe monthly to the boxes, if you just do it to get one box, they charge you $34.95. I made that mistake & thought I was over charged until they explained it to me & then stupid me actually read the fine print

Luna

Just thought I’d mention they also sell past beauty boxes that haven’t sold out for $24.99 too. 🙂

Hi Taren,
If you look under Brands then select Beauty Fix as the brand you’ll see them. There might be a faster way, but that’s how I look for them. 🙂

Taren

Trying to find the past boxes to buy and can’t seem to find them. Do you know how to get to them?

Charlotte

This is not quite true. There is an option to buy boxes individually at $34.95 – I’ve done that to get an extra box before – but if you actually subscribe, it will be $24.95. You can cancel after one box. Cancelling is super easy, you can do it directly from your account online.

JuJu

I think you can subscribe, though, and then cancel after a month (or however many months you wish to stay).

I feel the same, like it was missing a wow product. And a couple I’ve seen in previous boxes and their store is so large, I feel like repeats aren’t really necessary. I love this box and waiting to be reeled back in. Haven’t had a box in almost a year.

I’m currently using a mini bottle of those HUM vitamins (I picked mine up in the last Boxy pop up sale), and their smell & taste totally remind me of cherry flavored cough syrup…. not too bad, but it’d be better if they tasted more like cherry flavored gummy bears. 🙂

A hyaluronic acid serum with denatured alcohol, and so high on the ingredient list? 🙄

Some skincare products really make me wonder about the cosmetic chemists working for those companies…

Charlotte

It’s kind of amazing how many high-end “hydrating” formulas I see containing denatured alcohol.
