Marcel Pagnol was a French novelist, playwright as well as a filmmaker. Although he is lesser known today, he was regarded as one of France’s greatest writers in the early 20th century. The set titled Marseille Trilogy, is set in the Provence region of France, & includes the following three films:

Fun Fact: Pagnol is a great favorite of the wonderful Alice Waters who named her acclaimed Chez Panisse after a character in one of Pagnol’s films.
This box is a sort of prequel box to the Eric Rohmer Film Box (June Film Box). While there would be no Richard Linklater, no films of Noah Baumbach without Eric Rohmer, there would be no Eric Rohmer & no French New Wave without Marcel Pagnol!
