This month's BoxyCharm theme is “Sunshine” and I’m not sure where you guys are from, but here in Texas, sunshine and heat is all we get. Hopefully there are some products in this month’s box that can help protect our skin from the heat. Let’s jump right in…
The first thing I pulled from my box is the 111 Skin NAC Y2 Pollution Defence Booster. This is a daytime booster that is made to protect your skin from environmental and blue light pollution. If you are not familiar with blue light pollution, it has to do with our excessive use of electronic devices. Just like too much sun can be harmful, so is too much exposure from electronic devices. It can actually be harmful to our eyes and skin. This particular booster uses a strong combination of antioxidants and peptides. It also helps to maintain a healthy and fortified complexion which helps against fine lines and wrinkles. I was surprised to learn that too much screen exposure can also accelerate aging, so it's good to know that this booster will help me to create a shield against all these harmful things.
I added a few drops to clean dry skin and I noticed right away how light it felt. Although it's an oil I was shocked to notice that it wasn’t at all greasy, and a little bit goes a long way. Of course, this is one of those products you have to use for a longer period of time before seeing results, however, I love the light scent. Just knowing that my skin is protected from blue light exposure is enough for me to want to continue using it, and who doesn't want to slow down aging?
Our next product is from the brand Grace & Stella and it's their Anti-Wrinkle +Energizing Eye Masks. This is not a brand with which I am familiar, however, I love discovering new brands. I think almost everyone has certain days or times when their under eye area is affected in some way. Whether it's dark circles, puffiness, fine lines or just fatigue from time to time, we need a little help in this area. When that happens these eye masks can help to rejuvenate your eyes as if you had at least eight hours of sleep. These masks are made up of plant-based collagen, vitamin C, rose oil, and hyaluronic acid. I’m pretty excited to give these a try.
I wiped my under eye area clean, making sure there were no oils or residue that would keep the masks from sticking. I placed these pretty gold masks under each eye just below the lash line. I love how comfortable and gel-like they feel. You can also place these masks in the fridge for a more cooling effect. I left them on for the 20 minutes as the product recommended. After removing each mask, I massaged the remaining formula into my skin. Because there is no need to rinse it off afterwards, I simply discarded the masks when I was done.
You probably can't notice a before-and-after effect in the picture because my eyes were not puffy to begin with, however, I did notice my dark circles were not as dark as they normally are. I may not have needed these masks today but with eleven more left, I’m certainly going to save them for those long nights I have coming ahead.
This next product is from PUR Cosmetics and it's the Festival 2.0 Eyeshadow Palette. I’m excited to get back into makeup as it's been a few months since I've received a palette from BoxyCharm. This particular palette has 12 stunning colors that consist of matte and shimmer shades. I love the inclusion of both finishes because it makes it a lot easier to create a look using just one palette. I normally try to keep my eyeshadows down to three shades, however, when I saw all these gorgeous shades, I knew it would be hard to choose. So for this look, I will be using five shades. Every time I create an eye look, I do my best to simplify things and make it easy to follow. I realize that our readers are all on different levels when it comes to makeup application. So in order to simplify my look, I broke it down into small categories:
- Transition shade
- All over lid/crease shade
- Inner eye shade
- Outer corner shade
- Brow bone highlight shade
Transition Shade
Before I began, I used an eyeshadow primer on my lids in order to get the best pigment from these shades. For my transition shade, I used a medium fluffy brush and the shade “On Set,” a dark brown matte shade.
You can hardly see the color here, however, this is normal because your transition shade should be a shade or two darker than your skin tone.
All Over Lid/Crease Shade
Next, I used the shade “ Vibes” across my entire lid and also in the crease area. I made sure to blend it out in the crease area using windshield wiper motions. This shade is one of the prettiest shades that I have seen in a long time. It has a red ruby tone with glitter that should stand out on any skin tone.
Here is how the shade looks on my lids.
Inner Eye Shade
My next shade is “Pure Bliss” and it's a beautiful gold shimmer shade. I used a flat blush and placed this shade into the inner corners of my eyes. I started in the inner corners and stopped towards the middle of my eye area.
Here is how the shade “Pure Bliss” looks added to the inner part of my eyes. I love to add certain shades to this area of my eyes because it makes it look like I started with one shade and blended into another.
Outer Corner Shade
Next I used my finger for the shade “ VIP Pass” on the outer corners of my eyes. This is a black and silver sparkle shade and looked great against “Vibes.”
In between using different eyeshadows, I used our next product. It's from Lavish and it's a product that I really enjoy using: the Quick Color Switch Dry Brush Cleaner. I own this product from another brand so I know how handy it can be. This is a quick and easy way to clean your brushes either when you're done or in between different shades. I actually use this product every time I create an eye look, that's how much I love it. Sometimes I like using the same brush for different colors and this just makes it so easy to do that.
This product does exactly what it claims; it helps to remove powder pigments from your brushes without actually washing them. I used this as I was creating my eye look today and the Lavish product works awesome. My favorite part is how easily and quickly it removes color from my brushes; a few swirls or back and forth motions and I have a clean brush again.
Brow Bone Highlight Shade
Finally after filling in my brows, I used my last shade, which is “Utopia.” I placed it under my brow bone area for a nice highlight. I have never seen a color like “Utopia” before. It is a gorgeous light green/gold shimmer shade and it works great as a highlighter.
Although there was tons of fallout I still fell in love with this palette. I always do my eye makeup before I do my face because you never know just how much fallout some shades may have. I have yet to be disappointed with PUR Cosmetics eyeshadow palettes and this one was no different. They always have great pigment with smooth and silky shades, and blending them out is a breeze. Everything that I look for in a great shadow, this brand has.
After adding black eyeliner and mascara, here is my eye look completed. I hope you guys found it easy to follow along.
After adding primer, foundation, just a hint of blush and highlighter to the tip of my nose (using the shade "Utopia" from the palette), I grabbed our final product. It is from Ciaté London and it's their Everyday Vacay Coconut Setting Spray. This setting spray is infused with coconut and has an ultra-fine mist. There are also small microbeads which help to add a delicate glow to the skin. I'm more of a setting powder girl over setting spray but everyone has their personal preference. The directions say to hold the bottle 20. cm away from your face, close your eyes, and spray an even amount on your face. You can use this before or after adding your makeup. Since I used a makeup primer before, I choose to use this after adding all my makeup products. I like how nicely and evenly it sets on my skin without leaving me with a wet look like I have experienced with other setting sprays. The coconut scent was not overwhelming and faded after a few minutes.
Here is my makeup look completed after adding a light-colored lip gloss from Bath & Bodyworks in the color "Champagne." It's a very light shimmer lip gloss that I thought would marry well with this makeup look.
Verdict: I really enjoyed the products in this month's BoxyCharm and was taken aback by the value of the products. I love trying new things and new brands and this month BoxyCharm had plenty of new things for us to try. What was your favorite item in this month's BoxyCharm?
