Marked by Inked June/July 2020 Review
There is a booklet that lists each product with quick details about the artist or brand. This month's note from Marked says there is a total value of $100+ inside so let's see what we have this month!
"Poppy" Canvas by Emily Kay
This mini watercolor canvas is made with acrylic and ink. The drawing features a poppy surrounding a reaper-esque figure which is Emily's style. This is just my husband's style; he loves tattoos that are in this style and has a few skeleton tattoos of his own, so this is the perfect artwork to add to his office. He has a small gallery wall in his office that he has been adding to make that space his own now that he is working from home full-time, so this was the perfect little addition to that. We both loved the detail and how the drawing really looked similar to a tattoo and the canvas quality was wonderful with an almost tie-dye look to the background.
Face Mask by Kill Brand - Retail Value $10
This mask is really cool! I would absolutely pay $10 for this! The fit was perfect for me and my husband, and the soft fabric makes it comfortable and breathable to wear. What I love most is that each mask is hand-dyed, which makes it super unique. We have started a mask collection of sorts and really love finding unique ones that fit our personal style, so receiving this was a treat!
"Balance" and "Feminine Energy" Postcards by Emily Kay
I have been sending letters and notes to some of my friends and family while we have been in lockdown the past few months, so I was really excited to receive these two postcards! The first postcard is called "feminine" as it pulls inspiration from the female body of strength. The second postcard is "balance" representing balance and ego mixed with the feeling of isolation. I can't decide if I want to send these to anyone just yet or keep them on display somewhere in our house. Again, the artist has a very similar style to what my husband gravitates towards so these are perfect for him!
Death Cups by Death Wish Coffee, 2 cups - Buy a pack of 10 for $15.99
I love coffee so it is always a treat to try new brands and flavors. I really enjoyed these two cups so much, they had a smooth flavor even though they are a dark roast. There were light hints of chocolate and berries that I really enjoyed. I noticed that the coffee is low in acid which is great! Each cup has 12 grams of fair trade ground coffee inside, and they are so packed full of caffeine! I would absolutely buy more of these!
Irish Cream Whiskey Coffee Chocolate Bar by Death Wish Coffee, 2.25 oz. - Retail Value $9
I have the biggest sweet tooth, but I was surprised that I didn't really enjoy this chocolate bar very much. I also love coffee, but I rarely like coffee grounds in my chocolate. Something about the grainy texture that usually leaves a bitter aftertaste is unappealing to me. I will say though that my husband loved this chocolate bar! He thought the chocolate was smooth and creamy and the coffee gave it a little kick. The whiskey flavor didn't really come out too much, but overall he thought it was really good. I could not see myself paying $9 for a chocolate bar though.
Tattoo Goo Balm by Tattoo Goo, 9.3 g - Retail Value $4.49
If you are getting tattoos frequently or know you will be getting one soon, then tattoo goo is something that you should always have on hand. My husband and I both have tattoos so we have always been on the lookout for a goo that we both love. This goo has a really amazing fresh scent that feels so rich and oily, which you want for a healing tattoo. This goo is made with premium olive oil and is formulated to mimic the natural oils that occur in your skin. I don't think another tattoo is in store for me anytime soon, but I can tell that my husband is itching to get a new one so we will be keeping this for that new addition!
X-Pressions Extra Strength Antiseptic Swabs by Tattoo Goo - Retail Value $9.99
I don't have any piercings, just my ears, so I wasn't really sure what this was at first. It seems really cool though and what a great way to keep your piercings clean. All you have to do is snap the tip and the medication will start coming out, which is a powerful antibacterial and antimicrobial that prevents infection. A gal that my husband works with was interested in these so we are going to be passing them along to her!
McKinney Paint Co. T-Shirt by Shawn McKinney
Who doesn't love getting a new T-shirt?! I wasn't able to find this online, but in the monthly booklet it says that the design is based on an old motor oil sign from the farm where the artist, Shawn McKinney, was raised. The lettering on the wings says "Time Tells" which he says shows how art can live on long after we do. The shirt isn't super soft, but it fits me like a glove. I will happily add it to my collection!
Verdict: This was my first Marked by Inked box. I really enjoyed the curation and variety in each of the products this month. You get a little bit of everything from this box! Tattoo and piercing care, art, chocolate, coffee, and some cool apparel. The mask is my favorite item this month because it is not only cool but comfortable and totally worth the $10. I loved learning about the Death Wish brand and reading more about this month's featured artist. The items from Tattoo Goo aren't being used yet, but I know that we will get to use them soon. I wasn't able to find most of the items for sale online, but the average cost per product comes out to around $4.49. It can be hard to put a value on products like this, especially the art, but I think the value is there in the uniqueness of each item. I think this is a really unique box that would be perfect for a true artist and tattoo lover, with it being bi-monthly, I think it would be an awesome gift for someone!
