CultureFly My Hero Academia Subscription Box Spring 2020 Review
Each box comes with a card showing each of the items in the box. I was really excited about this box because I just recently started watching MHA and I am kind of really into it. It is silly and fun and feels kind of like an anime version of X-Men. The hero is a boy named Midoriya who was born without a 'Quirk' AKA a superpower. It has always been his dream to be the biggest hero, and a fateful meeting with Japan's biggest celebrity superhero, All Might, sets him on a course to realize his dream.
UA Track Jacket
I really love it when a fandom sort of clothing article is done right! This is such a cool track jacket and no one would even know it was a reference to MHA unless they were also a fan. It just looks like a really cool piece of athletic wear that is a spot-on replica of the UA student jackets. It is a lightweight sort of windbreaker-style fabric so it is actually really nice for actual workout wear as well as just a fandom statement.
Todoroki Heat Changing Mug
Todoroki is one of my favorite students/heroes because he has such a cool Quirk! Half fire, half ice, he can freeze enemies into place as well as set things on fire. This mug is a nice tribute because when it is cold or empty, just Todoroki's headshot is visible, but add hot water and fire and ice appear behind him!
Student Midoriya Vinyl Figure
Midoriya was such a whiny and arguably unlikeable character at the beginning, but his heart was so set on helping others and becoming a hero that it was hard not to start really rooting for him! This figure could have a slightly better paint job, but otherwise, I really like this more simple pose of him in his UA uniform. In a series so full of crazy hero costumes, this feels pretty unique to see him just as a student instead of looking so flashy.
Ochaco Anti-Gravity Bookend
Ochaco is one character that I haven't really fallen in love with yet, but I am only starting season 2, so there is time! I do really think her anti-gravity power is pretty cool and I hope I see more of it as I continue to lean into the series. This bookend is pretty cool because Ochaco is on a magnet that lets her be moved anywhere on the surface, allowing you to create some dynamic looks with your books.
Tokoyami (Dark Shadow) Snapback Hat
Who doesn't love Tokoyami? This half-bird summoner of a protective shadow aspiration is the perfect fellow to grace this moody snapback hat. He is embroidered in detail on the front.
Lenticular Postcard Set
Ok, these are pretty cool! These holographic postcards have images of the students in their school clothes and in their hero costumes. There are two each of Midoriya, Todoroki, Bakugo, and Tsuyu!
Bakugo Flashlight Keychain
Designed to look like Bakugo's grenade shaped gauntlet, this keychain has the power to create light!
Tsuyu Sticky Notes
Tsuyu kind of creeped me out at first. Her superpower is basically being a frog! Her quirky attitude and winningly kind nature have made her a favorite of mine though and these sticky notes are a nice homage to her!
Verdict: As someone relatively new to MHA, I still really loved this box! The items were all very well thought out and totally collectible. My only complaint is that it didn't feature one of my favorite students, Tenya Iida! Fingers crossed he shows up next season. I think my favorite item was the track jacket, but the keychain and mug would be close seconds. Looking forward to the next box!
