Walmart Beauty Box "Spring Beauty Sensations" Spring 2020 Review
When you sign up you will answer a series of questions such as your ethnicity, hair color, skin concerns, and a few other preferences. The answers are used to provide a more personalized experience so that they can tailor your box to you.
This little card gives us a link to find this season's products and ingredient information. It also gives us a social media hashtag, and includes a QR code that brings you to a quick survey for a chance to win a $100 Walmart gift card! This is my first box, and while it shows the Spring boxes should start shipping in April, I received this box on June 22nd, so it seems they are running a bit behind.
Natural Vitality Magnesium Supplement, 0.12 oz - Buy an 8 oz container for $23.95
Because I like to save the best for last, we first have a 1-serving packet of Natural Vitality "Calm" magnesium supplement. This raspberry-lemon flavored supplement is to be mixed with 2-3 ounces of warm water until it fizzes. Once it is completely dissolved, you fill the remainder of the cup with warm or cold water. The packet contains 56% of your daily value of magnesium in a tart and tangy drink. I found the raspberry-lemon flavor to be just sweet enough and enjoyable, although I didn't really feel a calming effect. While it was fun to try, I would much rather have a beauty or skincare sample instead!
Hello Charcoal Infused Tapered Bristle Toothbrush - Retail Value $3.99
Here we have a soft-bristled, charcoal-infused, BPA-free toothbrush. I have seen this particular item floating around in sub boxes a lot lately, but haven't received one myself, so I was actually kind of excited to receive this! This streamlined charcoal-colored brush features very soft bristles that are infused with charcoal from bamboo. Because I usually brush with a medium-firm bristled brush I found this was a bit too soft for me. I also felt because the handle was so smooth, I couldn't get a great grip on it like my traditional toothbrush. If they could add a few textured dots to the base I think it would be much more user friendly. While this wasn't my favorite toothbrush in the world, I was excited to finally give it a shot!
Hello Naturally Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste, 1.0 oz. - Buy a 4.7 oz. tube for $3.97
To accompany my new toothbrush, I also received a sample size of the coordinating "Hello: Farm Grown Mint" toothpaste. I have used this brand of toothpaste in the past, and the mint is my favorite flavor. I find the toothpaste to be a bit more runny than traditional toothpaste, but I also find that it foams up quite nicely, and who doesn't like a little natural whitening in a toothpaste?! I like the fact that this brand is peroxide free, dye free, SLS free, paraben free, triclosan free, preservative free, gluten free, and contains no artificial sweeteners and no artificial flavors. My husband is on the other side of the fence and does not like this toothpaste as he is a die-hard Crest user, but I will definitely use this sample up.
Head & Shoulders Supreme Nourish and Smooth Conditioner, 2.5 oz. - Buy a 9.4 oz. bottle for $8.97
Here we have a nice sized sample of Supreme Nourish and Smooth Head and Shoulders scalp and hair conditioner. This product contains 0.5% pyrithione zinc to help combat dandruff. While I tend to have oily hair, I really enjoy the scent of this product and found it was very conditioning. I like these travel-sized samples for sticking in my suitcase, although I haven't done that in far too long!
Bioré Love Your Pores Rose Quartz + Charcoal Daily Purifying Cleanser, 1 oz. - Buy a 6.7 oz. bottle for $7.99
First off, I love the packaging this cleanser is in. Any bottle that is glittery or shiny is right up my alley... Next, the cleanser itself is pink AND shimmery—do they know me or what?! This product is designed for oily skin so I am their girl. My T-zone gets very oily and tends to cause me to break out in those areas. This cleanser not only smells amazing, (think spring florals with fizz) but it also left my non-sensitive skin feeling tingly and smooth. While the scent faded away rather quickly, I cleansed my face and one of my hands with this product and found hours later that the hand I used it on was 2 times softer and smoother than the hand I didn't cleanse. I was really happy with this product, and excited they sent it because with the number of cleansing products around these days, I probably wouldn't have ever given it a chance! Just as a heads up, this product does contain menthol, so it may cause irritation on sensitive skin. Because I use it in the shower, it cleared out my sinuses and left me feeling a bit more awake than when I went in!
NYX #thisiseverything Lip Oil, 0.27 oz. - Retail Value $6.00
I told you I saved the best for last, but was this bright bluish-lavender item really the best? I thought so! This NYX lip oil comes in five different shades, and I received "sheer lavender." While I tend to think of lavender as more of a purple hue, I was a little hesitant to see what this lip oil was going to actually look like on. Being almost 32 (10 more days left of 31) I just don't feel comfortable wearing bright blue lip glosses. I am happy to say that this oil not only left my lips their natural pink color, but it really infused my lips with moisture without being sticky and messy. I am usually not a fan of vanilla-cherry flavored beauty products, but I found the scent was so mild that I actually enjoyed it. The wear time of this oil was also substantial, and really helped add moisture to my dry summer lips!
Verdict: This my first time reviewing the Walmart Beauty Box, and I have to say it was an interesting mix of items. While I didn't love the magnesium supplement, and I am not the perfect candidate for the Head and Shoulders sample, I did really like the lip oil and cleanser. The toothbrush and toothpaste set was also neat, as we are going to visit my mom in a few days and I can leave this at her house so I have less packing for next time! I had a hard time estimating the value of the items because most were sample size, but between the lip oil and the toothbrush, we were over the $5 cost of the box, so I feel that this mix of items was worth the $5.00 cost of shipping.
