Let's peek inside!

Cleobella Coverup

This is normally a bit bright for me, but at the beach, anything goes! Sadly, I will not be seeing the beach this year (I am in denial) so this might be packed up for next summer when my family is planning a North Carolina coast getaway. This is the ideal sort of coverup: it is flowy and breezy, with enough length and adjustable ties so you can still define your waist a little. It is made of 10% viscose which is super breathable and the little white tassels are a cute finishing touch.

It's not the beach... but it is a pretty green backyard. Also, peep my new sunnies I review below!

Raen 'Gilman' Sunglasses - Retail Value $150.00

I know Raen tends to show up in subscription boxes on occasion, so these might not be super exciting to everyone. I happen to love this brand and I still wear the two pairs I have received from them before. Well, I still wear one pair. My mom permanently borrowed the other. These might be my new favorites! They have a nice weight in your hands and feel incredibly well made, which is something the majority of sunnies that come in boxes can't always boast. The shape is also classic and in an eternally chic tortoise acetate.

Sand Cloud Towel

This brand is currently targeting me across Facebook and Instagram, so I was amused to see one show up in a box. This one still isn't the 100% Turkish cotton of its counterparts on the brand's website, but it is 30% cotton, 25% recycled polyester, and 45% recycled cotton. Again, no beach for me this season. But I have found these make truly excellent blankets for picnics or outdoors sketching. They are super small when rolled up and very lightweight, meaning they fit into your smaller bags and take up less room in your trunk.

Will cut off my hands, but you get the idea of how large this thing is!

Monstera Bottle Opener

As the proud parent of a rather large Monstera, I immediately enjoyed this bottle opener and its familiar leaf shape.

Protekt Reef Safe SPF 30, 3 oz - Retail Value $18.00

I am a sunscreen queen and wear it every day. I am also rather picky about something that goes on my face or body daily. It better feel good! This sunscreen does, though I would stick to your body and pick a true facial sunscreen for your face. At first, it looked like this thick cream wasn't going to absorb completely and I was worried it might leave behind that dreaded white film, but it actually absorbed with very little effort. It did leave a little sheen behind, but nothing too bad! As someone who goes through a lot of sunscreen bottles each season, this was a welcome sight inside my box this month.

Protekt Reef Safe SPF 15 Lip Balm, 4.25 g - Retail Value 5.00

I liked this balm, but apply too much and it does make your lips look a little frosty. It has a creamy coconut scent and a really smooth application.

Kopari Coconut Detox Mask Packets, three 5 mL packets - Buy 2 oz for $38.00 here

Our last item is a trio of one-time use detox masks from Kopari. First things first, this mask does have coconut oil inside. This comedogenic ingredient isn't going to be ideal for everyone. If you are prone to clogged pores and blackheads, proceed with caution on this one. The mask itself is very smooth and kind of like a pale green shade. It is instantly cooling on skin and never really dried completely for me in the recommended 10-15 minutes. I actually really like some Kopari products but this one didn't do a lot for me. I also noticed it is no longer sold on their website, though I did find it at other retailers.

Verdict: This Beachly box has to feel a little bittersweet for those of us who are landlocked this summer. These items are so beachy and sunshiny and ugh, I miss the ocean so much. Luckily, every single item can be used far away from the water. The coverup doubles as a top, the sunglasses are useful anytime the sun is out, and the bottle opener, well, I drink with or without the sea to comfort me. I also use sunscreen daily and I have found myself outside a lot for sketching, so the towel is handy. I am not sure this feels like a $100+ box to me, however. For that price, I really want to have my socks knocked off, and the sunglasses were the biggest wow-factor for me. I do love them, but this box could have used a little more.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  No, this box has sold out. Your first box will be the Summer Editors Box.

Value Breakdown: At $103.95 ($99.00 + $4.95 shipping) for this box, each of the 7 items has an average cost of $14.85.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Beachly’s customer service leaves much to be desired in my opinion. The last box that you reviewed had a lovely set of bracelets shown. I received ONE bracelet, not a set. When I emailed, they sent me another single bracelet. I emailed a second time telling them that I was still waiting for the full set (5 or 6 bracelets I think) and never heard back. Very poor customer service and I’m wondering if the box you reviewed is the only one that got that gorgeous set while regular subscribers got only a single bracelet.

The same thing happened to me- One bracelet, not the box of bracelets.

I talked to them and got $30 off each of my next two boxes.

I thought it was more than fair because, truth be told, I hate string type bracelets.. and did get a ton of them in the last FFF box, I believe it was.

The box is super attractive at $70 shipped. 🙂

Looking back at past reviews this box looks light, like it’s missing a couple of things. Receiving sunglasses in a sub is a pet peeve of mine. Many of us wear prescription glasses. Also, no one pair of sunnies fits everyone’s face. $150 is a huge chunk of the retail value, which is a complete waste if you can’t use them. I wish there were options for things like that, or maybe a GC to a sunnies company to choose something that does fit right.

I find it a bit odd that this company charges $99 (without the discount), and then charges $4.95 on top of that, for shipping. Not impressed.

I have ordered from Beachly before, and their items were of a good quality. But when I saw the spoilers, it just wasn’t my thing this time around.

Megan, you’re rocking that coverup! That truly is your color. The sunglasses look great on you too. Thanks for another wonderful review.

This was my first seasonal box of an annual subscription I bought for myself as a birthday gift! I absolutely loved it! I do not live anywhere that is considered a warmer climate most if the year line Texas, California, Florida. I don’t even live near a lake lol. But I love the ocean and beach and live the items in this box! Even though I won’t get the use out of some of the items like others will, I still enjoyed receiving them! I had an issue with the sunglasses and I have to say that their customer service is awesome! I know of a few companies that should take some lessons from the customer service at Beachly! I’m so happy I decided to treat myself to this subscription and can’t wait to see what’s in store for Fall! Great box review!

I think the price point was pretty good for this box. The sunglasses at their cheapest price online was 75% of the cost, the coverup at the lowest price was at least 50% the cost, the towel added another 20%, and the sunscreen and opener both add another 20%. That’s at a minimum 165% of the cost of the box and a lot more if I were to buy separately. I’m happy with that considering the curation includes high value, well known brands that I usually don’t see around my area and that fact that I Love beach stuff!
But I realize it might not be for everyone.

Katie, I agree with you.

I’ve lived in one or another Gulf Coast state, where it’s very hot and humid almost all year long, all my life.
I don’t live ON the beach, and I love my pool much better than the Gulf or ocean, but the VIBE is ” I live in a sub- tropical climate and I’m dressing like I do” to me.

If I lived in an area of the country without this type of heat and resort feeling year round and had no wonderful history or memories of the almost unbelievably hot weather 9-10 months per calendar year, this sub likely would not appeal to me no matter what the value vs. the cost of the box.

I have finally thrown out unworn sweaters and replaced them with cotton hoodies or 3/4 length sleeve items for winter. It’s an adjustment to move from one part of the Coastal area to a hotter part, even.
I love the color and the style curated with this box. It appeals to me in all ways. 🙂

Thanks for doing the breakdown on the value. I go more by ” I like it” or ” That’s not for me” in these types of products than the cost. If I like it, I don’t really care what it costs up to a rational point. I know some people think this is expensive. I don’t, but we come from different viewpoints and family sizes and needs, I think. 🙂

I love this box, and I’m a current subscriber, and have been for about a year now.

The quality of items is NOT T.J. Maxx compared to my few ventures into T.J. Maxx in years past, it’s top quality items in sportswear, not evening wear or work wear for those who are dressing for the office again now…. They have custom printed fabrics for most of their items, and the brands are very good brands.

I was disappointed in sunglasses because I finally gave up and started wearing prescription glasses, but maybe most people were able to have Lasik and don’t wear glasses anymore.

My cover up is very loose and flowing and there’s no mistaking it as a lounge wear piece. I don’t think it’s a OSFA item, although it was presented as such. I know one petite lady said hers is long and falling off. Mine’s what I’d call loose and flowing and the length is close to my knees.
There’s also a flowing ruffle on the side, it’s feminine with details that didn’t show up really well here.

If people have ever gotten another ” Beach” themed personal item box, they’ll get the curation of this box perfectly. Try ” Oceanista” box and then try this one. 🙂
I think I know which one most people will prefer.

This is a niche’ box for beachy themed wear and personal accessories, with maybe a skincare item or two mixed in. It’s usually not a lifestyle box except for the woven towels/ throws ( which I could definitely do without).
The boxes are very large and are packed FULL. it’s like a FFF box size on steroids as far as the fill amount.

I definitely believe I get my money’s worth but at some point, I’ll reach saturation point on beachy things and take a break. I’m not obsessed, in other words, but feel the curation has been misunderstood here with the reference to wholesale items at discount stores. It’s not cheap items. The quality comes when wearing and using the items, IMO.

If you aren’t going to the beach, I think that cover up could double up as a shirt. It looks really cute on you with the jeans.

Beth

i’d feel differently about this box if it didn’t have sunglasses. same old story – I wear prescription lenses…

Elena

Cute stuff… but agree w/everyone else that the value is just not there at that price point. I can find similar quality/style items at TJ Maxx for less.

I live in Florida and also think this is great in theory. But so many other things would make this better! They should take a lesson from Kevia at Journeebox and make it more well-rounded, stun with value and think outside the box. Possible items: laminated shell guide, teak or other salt-friendly wood salad tongs, simulated pearl earrings, shell-inlaid picture frames or mirror…
There should be at least 8 items for that price imo.

I love this box. It is a little expensive, but I keep much more of it than I give away. I live in Texas and have a pool and go to the lake on our boat and we walk to the lake to fish. Even though I’m not going to the ocean beach, I’m out enough to appreciate the items in the box. My favorite is the coverup. I wear it nearly every day.

I live in FL and go to my local beach dozens of times a year. I like the idea of a beach box in theory.

But I already have plenty of towels and cover ups. And, if I’m honest, just throw on my swimsuit without a coverup most of the times. Maybe I toss a pair of shorts over it, maybe not.

The sunscreen is nice though not exciting as I buy SPF in bulk. I’d go through this in less than a summer’s week. The lip balm is nice as well and is probably my favorite item.

I don’t have use for a bottle owner (though it’s cute!) and wear prescription sunglasses.

I really cannot see spending more than $50 for this box. I understand the value might be there for someone else but that needs to be a fairly specific person.

I thought about sending a box to my sister as she lives in PA and she’s visiting me in September. The box would make her more excited about her trip. But the price makes me hesitant and I could probably find a nicer towel and coverup elsewhere.

Over and over again, I like the boxes but never feel like they’re wowing me at that price. Thanks for the review, Megan! The coverup Is super cute on you.

Agreed. I love everything in this box, but that price point is out of reach.
