Yogi Surprise “Tapas” July 2020 Review
Here is the info book for this month’s box. This month’s theme is “Tapas."
The back of the booklet contains a Tapas asana to encourage energy and wellness.
Caravan Wellness 30-Day Free Membership - Retail Value $20
I normally love to be active (hiking! rock climbing! a HIIT class!) but the pandemic has really shot all of the air out of that balloon- when the heat index is over 100 degrees outside I can’t exactly go on a two-hour hike, and I have never been able to embrace working out in my apartment. At least with this 30-day trial (which is longer than the free trial anyone can get from the website, but you do need a credit card to sign up), I can see if it’s something I can commit to before paying extra for a subscription. Caravan is more than just a fitness subscription, as it also focuses on your mental well being. Signing up gives you access to meditations, yoga flows, and barre exercise videos with over 20 guided programs designed for your complete well being. I will say that my anxiety levels lately have been sky high, so I’m hoping this is something I can stick to. One thing I do like is that I can choose to follow a program, and the program may only have eight videos- it seems much more manageable to commit to 8 videos throughout a week or two with a guided purpose rather than an unlimited amount that I have to choose from.
Reverse Karma White Sage Smudge Stick - Retail Value $11.11
While I love the ideas of sage smudging, I’ve become more aware recently that in the hype behind smudging there has been an increase in unsustainable farming practices that affects the indigenous cultures these practices originated with. Since this came in the box I will use it when I feel like my home needs to be refreshed, but I hope that the ethics and sustainability of products like these are something that Yogi Surprise takes into consideration.
Joco Botanicals Breathe Soothing Lip Balm - Retail Value $7
This is a coconut oil-based lip balm infused with tea tree and eucalyptus, and the combination really is a good mix of being both soothing and uplifting. I like the light scent from the essential oils (that fades quickly), and the balm left my lips buttery smooth. This made it into my office and is my go-to when my lips are feeling dry, and if I don’t manage to lose it (very likely) I can actually see myself finishing the entire tube. Plus, when this is finished the packaging is completely biodegradable!
Aves Jewelry Amazonite Mala Bead Necklace
A mala is a strand of 108 beads plus a “guru” bead designed to help you with meditation or prayer. From my research, in Hinduism the number 1 stands for God, the universe, or your highest truth (whatever you believe!), the number 0 stands for emptiness and humility in the spiritual practice, and the number 8 stands for infinity and timelessness, which is why the malas are strung with 108 beads. According to Yogi Surprise, amazonite helps to dispel negative energy and invites peace, understanding, and hope. I’ve definitely felt like my head has been under a dark cloud lately, so I plan on bringing this to my office to hold in my hands as a sort of fidget device when I’m on phone calls, only with more intentions for peace.
Dr. Botanicals Hemp Infused Super Natural Enzyme Mask, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $21.99
Along with hemp seed oil, this mask has pomegranate extract, kaolin clay, and sweet almond oil for a purifying mask that isn’t too drying. I don’t use exfoliating masks often (I like to err on the side of caution so I don’t over-exfoliate), so I definitely felt a mild tingle with this mask on. And even though this has a clay base, it has a really creamy texture that glided over my skin with ease. The directions say that this can be left on for 20 minutes, but that is a bit high for my skin's tolerance, so I washed it off after 15 and followed up with a sheet mask to make sure my skin was fully hydrated. I enjoyed this mask, and I definitely felt like my skin was smoother after using it.
Your Super Superfood Blend Trio Sampler, 3 ct - Buy a box of 10 pouches for $19.90
I really like the idea of this sampler! While I don’t make homemade smoothies very often, when I do I definitely don’t have fancy ingredients like wheatgrass, açaí, spirulina, and ashwagandha. These add a boost of nutrients to your smoothie, without any added sweeteners or artificial flavors. These can also be added to yogurt or water depending on how you would like to best incorporate it. My favorite was the Forever Beautiful mix, which is designed to nourish your skin, and I also received the Super Green mix (designed for boost immunity and add some nutrients from green veggies) and Mellow Yellow (designed to reduce stress and inflammation).
Organic Farm-a-Ceuticals Matcha Tea Scrub, 4 oz - Retail Value $20 (currently on sale for $15)
FYI: The scrub in the box was a variant item- you could have received a different scrub or another self-care item.
This is a scrub made with a sugar base that feels dry in your hands, but once combined with warm water from the shower, it creates a gentle exfoliation experience that also has some moisture thanks to ingredients like coconut oil and aloe. The matcha, peppermint, and cinnamon add in a refreshing zing to my senses, and this rinsed away with ease.
The Verdict: I can always count on Yogi Surprise to deliver items that I didn't know I needed or wouldn't splurge on for myself, and I think this month delivered on that with items like the Caravan trial or the superfood smoothie boosters, and I continue to like the mix of practical, functional items as well as items you can use to improve your yoga practice. Value-wise I couldn't find a value for everything, but the values I did find added up to $80.10. When you throw in the value for the smoothie boosters and necklace, I definitely think you meet the promised value of $100.
