BoxyCharm September 2020 Review
My variation is #50.
Let's see what I received!
Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Pore Exfoliating Treatment, 2 oz - Retail Value $85.00
I absolutely love this stuff so whenever it shows up I am really pleased. I have drier skin so an exfoliating product that is effective but not overly harsh or during is a must to maintain my skin's texture. Especially as it starts getting colder and I just start looking dull. I like to use this in the shower because the little granules can be hard to rine completely off without a lot of water. I like to apply it to my damp face and massage for about 30 seconds then rinse. The salicylic and lactic acid in this formula provide a gentle chemical exfoliation in addition to the physical action caused by the texture of the green goo and the massaging. You can leave this on for 2 minutes but because it does have alcohol inside and my skin is already drier, I just skip to a rinse. This works really well for me! Be sure to properly moisturize after!
Alamar Cosmetics Spanglish Pressed Pigment Palette - Retail Value $28.00
Ever so often I will love an item so much that I feel like I have gone crazy and maybe I am just beauty-drunk. This was one of those items. The pigment level here is WILD. Seriously, the shimmering foils are ridiculously metallic and so easy to apply. I usually have lower expectations for matte shadows but these kept up with those shimmers in terms of pigment levels, bendability, and overall performance. They have a little fallout but honestly who cares when you get color like that? The back of the palette suggests using the for metallic shades wet, but there is really no need to bother. These shine enough on their own. I am in love. Is this the most versatile palette I own? No way. These colors could be considered pretty specific. But does this one spark pure joy when I open it? YES. Especially that electric coral (Pero Like), the electric purple-blue (Guao), and the sweetest pink (Ay Que Cute). If you like these shades, buy this palette. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with these formulas, especially for this price.
Top to bottom: Pero Like, Tiene Swing, Ay Que Cute, and Muy Excited.
Top to bottom: Eres Un Show, Guao, JAJAJA, and Ponte Hyper.
Huda Beauty Matte & Metal Melted Double Ended Liquid Eyeshadows in 'Room Service' and 'Do Not Disturb' - Retail Value $25.00
I really love Huda Beauty products because the colors are always so pretty and the formulas are really nice too! I haven't tried these liquid formulas before, though maybe I played in the testers at Sephora back before everything went crazy? I can't remember. The colors I received are on the reddish-orange side, which doesn't bother me too much because I can wear those shades pretty easily. That being said, the matte 'Room Service' shade is a lot! It's so bold and pigmented and honestly looks like I shade I would wear on my lips. I did find it easy to blend if you start right away (it starts to dry pretty fast) and this helped. The rose gold shade is a little more demure and you can easily apply it with a lighter hand and blend for s sheer and twinkling look.
Top: Room Service, Bottom: Do Not Disturb.
Laura Geller LashBOSS Bold Mascara, 8.5 mL - Retail Value $24.00
I must be approaching some world record for mascara tubes. It feels like every single makeup box that arrives in the last few months has had a black mascara. I am thankful there has been a nice variety of brands at least. This isn't one of my favorite brands but the mascara was solid. It does exactly what you would expect it to. The bristle brush easily coats your lashes in a black tint and adds volume and length, but not TOO much. I found it to be long-lasting and didn't have any issues with flakes. If I wasn't already on mascara overload, I think this would be something I was more enthusiastic about.
Billion Dollar Beauty Sponge - Retail Value $15.00
My last item was a light grey beauty sponge. I don't need one of these right now but as someone who worries about their cleanliness long term, I always like having a handful on hand to replace the one I am currently using when it gets a little too gunky. You can use these to apply foundation, creams, powders, really anything. My favorite use happens to be using a damp sponge to apply powder highlighter. It creates the most dreamy dewiness!
Verdict: My BoxyCharm box has an overall value of at least $177 which is great for the $25 cost of the box. There were also a few things here that I was totally excited about! First, that Alamar palette. DANG I just love it! Every time I open it I smile. That item alone more than covered the cost of the box, so the fact that I also loved the Huda duo and I get to restock one of my favorite exfoliators is just icing on the cake. The mascara and blending sponge wasn't super exciting, but both are useful and the other items gave this box more than enough hype for me to feel pretty thrilled with it.
