Province Apothecary Rejuvenating + Hydrating Face Serum, 30 mL - Retail Value $76.00
This serum is a dry skin savior. Seriously, I can't wait to spoil myself with this when it starts to get cold outside. If you don't have dry skin, this might feel a little heavy for the end of summer, but you should totally give it a shot, even if it is just on dry spots. I used it a few different ways. I liked this on my bare face at night after my full routine, under a sheet mask, as well as all over my face right before applying a warm towel. It's like a faux-spa! This oil also smells incredible because it contains some seriously earthy and resinous oils like frankincense, myrrh, rose, patchouli, and neroli. If you like incense scents, you'll love this! Aside from the scent, it hosts a massive amount of fatty oils that are so nourishing for skin, like jojoba, apricot kernel, camellia seed, pumpkin seed, avocado, and more. My skin looks super smooth and hydrated every morning I have slept in this.
Blüh Alchemy Eye Oil Serum, 10 mL - Retail Value $82.00
This is looking like a more oil-heavy box, which is just fine with me! Winter is coming. This eye serum arrived in a glass roller with a metal ball that applied the serum evenly as well as provided extra cooling to my undereye. Inside are lots of goodies like rosehip seed oil, camellia oleifera (green tea) seed oil, raspberry seed oil, and coffee bean oil for instant brightening. These oils provide a super dose of moisture to skin as well as a pretty significant antioxidant boost! I like to apply this before my last night cream step and let it absorbs a little before covering my whole face with a heavier cream or oil. I did notice that it has some lemon peel and lavender oil, which, honestly might not be the best ingredients on the eye area for those with super sensitive skin. My skin never really reacts to essential oils in a negative way, but it was worth a callout for my sensitive friends out there! I do think most folks should be just fine since these are likely very small in proportion to the other lovely oils inside.
Naked + Thriving Renew Resurfacing Night Serum, 30 mL - Retail Value $68.00
This final bottle was a totally new brand to me. I love any sort of peel treatment and this one (though I found it super gentle) has some power players: hyaluronic acid, AHAs, glycolic acid, and aloe. I found this formula may be a little too mild for my skin which has gone through some pretty aggressive peeling treatments regularly for the last few years. But if your skin is more reactive or sensitive, or you are new to peels, this is such a great product to try out. The texture is a thicker (and slightly slimy) clear gel, that absorbs very easily. A little goes a long, long way here! I like to use serums like this after cleansing and toning, and before a night cream. Any sort of peel can make your skin sensitive to sun, so do wear that sunscreen. I would start by trying this maybe twice a week and seeing how your skin reacts over time; those acids go to work exfoliating and promoting cell turnover, for a smoother and more glowy face.
The Verdict: This Laurel & Reed box was stocked with three really great products this month! I was pretty impressed with all of them. My personal fave is that Province Apothecary serum. The scent and what it does for my dry face is marvelous! I also really enjoyed the eye serum and found the roller is so easy to use at night. Just leave it on your nightstand! The peel serum was also really great, even if it wasn't as high strength as I personally like for my own face. It's a great intro to peel serums! The value here was also wonderful, coming in at a whopping $226, which is certainly respectable for the box cost.
