Love Goodly VIP Box August/September 2020 Review
Each Love Goodly box comes with an info card detailing the items included. Last month I received the Essentials Box, but this month I received the VIP subscription so there's an additional card featuring the additional VIP-exclusive item. Love Goodly's VIP item is always full-size!
For the second month in a row, Love Goodly has curated a full box spotlighting one brand, and this time it's female-founded and -formulated You & Oil. You & Oil is a Lithuanian brand, and in fact, Love Goodly is the sole stockist in the United States, so this is a very special feature!
You & Oil Botoks & Regeneration + Aromatherapy Face Mask With Liposomes, 25 mL - Listed Value $8
If you've read reviews I've written before, you may know that I finally admitted to myself recently that I really just don't love the sheet mask experience. I have a hard time relaxing with a wet thing on my face. That said, I got some fantastic sheet mask tips in the comments section of my Fall Paper Source review, which gave me the spark I needed to try this one. Plus, it's got gorgeous packaging and good branding is a weakness for me. This mask's angle is "Botoks & Regeneration + Aromatherapy" and my first thought upon opening it was that the "aromatherapy" went an entirely different route than I'd expected. It's got an earthy, spicy vibe going on, not floral at all, like the flowery design might suggest. I was really surprised but also really dug it. I squeezed a little of the essence out of this mask and into a bowl before placing it on my face, then used my fingertips to apply extra on top where needed. I found myself enjoying the experience more that way, and it left my face feeling refreshed and not at all sticky. The goal of this mask is to promote youthful-looking skin by improving the elasticity and density through accelerating cell reproduction. I'm not sure if that can truly be achieved by 10 minutes of wearing a mask, but it's a nice concept, and I imagine it could be worked toward if you stocked up on this product to use regularly.
You & Oil Collagen / Moisturiser Beauty Shot Face Serum, 10 mL - Listed Value $22
This face serum was my favorite item this month! It's a vegan collagen that relies on sodium carrageenan (a polysaccharide extracted from seaweed) and red algae as its active ingredients to condition, boost, and protect your skin. I don't know much of anything about these ingredients but I get excited by bioactive formulas and was happy to have new ingredients to explore. The directions say to add one drop to your moisturizer to apply, a concept that was new to me and that lent to fantastic results. I really enjoy the way a thin moisturizer spreads and absorbs into my face but I also recognize that it often doesn't hydrate the driest parts of my skin, like the sides of my nose, deeply enough. The oil-moisturizer combination is where it's at. The scent of this Beauty Shot is light and vaguely floral with a gently spa-like air to it. You can also use this oil alone if that's your preference, though the bottle is relatively small so it might not last as long that way. It's suggested to wait 14 days before assessing results, and it's only been about 7 for me, but already I feel I can see my face smoothing, softening, and brightening. This would be one that I buy when it's gone, especially at its reasonable price point.
Update: when I initially wrote this review I had mentioned that Love Goodly's You & Oil stock didn't include this oil, but now it does. Yay! (Thanks, Ashley!)
You & Oil Acai Fig Marula Antioxidants Complex, 30 mL - Listed Value $42
This nourishing face oil is higher potency than the Beauty Shot, with a thicker consistency. Its job is to replenish natural moisture and promote firmness and density of skin. When I released the directed 3-4 drops into my hand and massaged it into my face it felt a cinch too heavy, but 2-ish drops rubbed in beautifully and left no oversaturated spots for me. This serum is said to be a powerhouse for repairing damaged skin, which I don't feel necessarily applies to me, but it's a wonderful tool to have on hand for seasons of intense dryness. The scent is gentle and botanical. This is Love Goodly's top-selling product! I found it in the April/May 2018 box (see Liz's review here)—do any long-time subscribers know if that was the first time it appeared in this subscription?
You & Oil Pepper + Black Caraway Food Shot, 30 mL - Listed Value $35
I always get a good feeling when a skin item is sent to me that can also be ingested. It's the ultimate sign of healthy and safe to me. The two most notable features of this oil are its fiery color—one I'm always drawn to—and its spicy scent and flavor. Really unique and enticing! As a skincare item it's meant to slow aging of the skin by way of slowing collagen disintegration. As a supplement it can be used as a natural antibiotic, a means of improving blood circulation, and a way of increasing lust. What can't this oil do? I've been enjoying it orally more than as a skincare item lately since I was already sent two lovely face oils to use, and I believe it's too soon to speak to any outcomes but I do quite like the zesty flavor as a little pick-me-up.
You & Oil Amber Oil + Mineral Water Regenerating Serum For Hair, 30 mL - Listed Value $41
As someone with very fine, light hair, I'm always a little wary of hair oils. I have a small bottle of argan oil in my drawer for when I'm wearing it at a longer length and it begins to feel brittle at the ends, but I strictly use it on those dry ends, and only in very small amounts. This oil is meant for that exact thing! I just got my hair cut to about chin length, so it's fresh and healthy and perhaps in my case a little too short for this oil to do its job without bleeding up toward my roots and leaving my hair looking greasy. It's a fragile game I play with products like this! But it smells beautiful—it contains canga flower oil and rosemary, which make for such a nice, nature-inspired combo. Those two ingredients are also said to stimulate hair growth and the development of hair loss, which is a benefit I would love to reap, but I assume I'd need to apply it to my roots to gain those benefits. Perhaps something to try for overnight treatment!
Verdict: Love Goodly introduced me to You & Oil this month, a brand I'm happy to have on my radar and on my bathroom counter! My top-loved item this month was the Beauty Shot face serum because of how light it is and how swimmingly it went on when mixed with my moisturizer. The Food Shot was intriguing and I can't wait to experiment with it some more. Both of the remaining products offered their own merits, but will likely be more seasonally used for me. The retail value for these 5 items is $148—because You & Oil only lists their products in Euros, I trusted Love Goodly's list prices. For a box that costs $48.95, that feels like a fantastic value to me!
