Macy's Friday Night In Set September 2020 Review

Buxom Cosmetics Full-On Plumping Lip Cream in White Russian, 0.05 oz - Estimated Value $7.50 (buy the 0.14 oz version for $21)

I am usually wary of lip colors that are described as "plumping" due to having bad reactions to certain lip products, but the Buxom formula has never done me wrong. White Russian is described as a "nude pink" shade that gives me a "my lips but better" look, and this wasn't overly sticky. I will admit I am not wearing much on my lips other than balms these days due to masks, but this is a really pretty shade.

NYX Professional Makeup #thisiseverything Lip Oil in Original Sheer, 0.27 oz - Retail Value $6

I love lip oil, especially one that hydrates my lips without leaving them sticky. This does a great job of doing just that - it doesn't change the color of my lips but it does add a really nice shine, and the almond, rosehip, and jojoba oils were nourishing to my lips. This does have a light fragrance that is described as "vanilla-cherry blossom," so while I definitely recommend this if you're looking for an affordable lip oil, skip it if your nose is sensitive to scents.

Swatches: the lip oil is on top and the Buxom lip cream is below.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, 1 oz - Retail Value $15

This is a multi-purpose mist that can be used as a primer, a setting spray, or to refresh your makeup during the day. I thought it was interesting that the third ingredient was caffeine, and it also is made with diamond powder. I think this product is more suited for those with dry skin if you're going to use it as a primer, and while I liked how weightless it felt on my skin I don't think this has the staying power to fight the 90% humidity of a Louisiana summer.

tarte™ Maracuja Oil, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $16

This is a multipurpose oil I genuinely will have no issue finishing fast. I love it on my hair, face, and nails! When my skin is feeling particularly dry I like reaching for an oil like this one and layering it under a sheet mask, and a drop really helps out my chronically dry cuticles. Maracuja oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamin C, so you really can apply this wherever you have dryness.

Crème Shop Face Mask - Retail Value $3

I was really pleased with the ingredients on this sheet mask, especially for the $3 price. Along with rose water to soothe skin and violet oil to nourish, this also has hyaluronic acid, panthenol (vitamin b5), beta-glucan, and allantoin. I used this mask on a freshly washed face and left it on for 20 minutes, and even though I didn’t layer a bunch of serums my skin felt hydrated like I had done just that.

Verdict: At first glance, I thought this set wasn't much, but now that I have it and have used the products I am pretty happy with it. I like that every product except the Buxom was a size that is sold by retailers, so it wasn't a box full of tiny samples. I'm pleased to have more of the Tarte oil in my arsenal, I enjoyed using the sheet mask and lip oil, and overall I think this was a fun set - especially if you can nab it when Macy's has a sale! Value-wise, I calculated a value of $47.50, which meets the promised $47  for this $25 set.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes, the Friday Night In Set and the Friday Night Out Set are still available for purchase (and currently on sale for $15!)

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 with free shipping and I calculated a total value of $47.50. That means you're paying approximately the following per item:

  • Buxom: $3.95
  • NYX: $3.16
  • Smashbox: $7.89
  • Tarte: $8.42
  • The Creme Shop: $1.58

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I’m guessing we will be charged for October at end of Sept. I thought we would get a Sept box but clearly that is not the case. I feel like they don’t seem to want new subscribers which is strange. I have a feeling they will either up the price or probably discontinue after October!

That doesn’t seem to be a good deal unless you had a super coupon. I can’t be other only one who thinks this. I didn’t read comments. Lol

I ordered the box back in March and was suppose to get the Jo Malone products.. Then I canceled after a few months because I was afraid they might charge me again and I haven’t even got the box I paid for.. cut to yesterday, I get a conformation that my subscription was discontinued (4 months later?) I can’t figure out who to call about this issue.. I want my box I paid for.. or at least A box because I don’t pay for things I don’t receive.

I signed up in March, but I haven’t been charged for it yet. Are you sure that you paid for it? I’ve read comments elsewhere that you don’t get charged when you sign up, but when they do billing for the box.

Did Macy’s discontinue the beauty box and just use Covid as an excuse? Because I ordered some beauty items from them last week, and now they have these two boxes…??
What happened to their beauty box??

I’m pretty sure they used covid to pause it for a few months and they’re restarting with the Jo Malone box in October. 🙂

I just checked my Macy’s account. It shows I am still currently subscribed and will be billed $15 between 9/26 to 10/5….so the boxes must be alive and well…on our way to us???

I was already looking at getting this. And then after I read your review and seeing how it’s on sale, I got it. No interest in the night out set, but i did add Bourghese (spelling) lippie set for free shipping.
