Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review
Ready for another month of oils?
The first things I grabbed from the package were two cards: one with a note from Katie (the curator and aromatherapist behind this box!) and the other with all the info on the included oils this month. It also let me know that 13% of my purchase cost was donated to Sojourn House, a sober living facility to help women through the trauma of addiction, abuse, and exploitation. It makes me feel extra excited to support companies that give back and deliver awesome boxes.
Also included were 6 recipe cards and coordinating stickers to use on all my handmade items!
Now, for the oils I received this month:
Palmarosa Essential Oil, 55 mL - Retail Value $13.99
From Simply Earth:
Often used as an adulteration of rose oil because of its similar aroma at a much lower price, Palmarosa offers a variety of benefits for the skin and emotional well being.
Palmarosa does indeed have a sharper sort of rose scent to it. In a diffuser blend, most people probably wouldn't know the difference, especially when mixed with a lavender or orange oil. It is a very floral and feminine sort of scent that I love.
Spearmint Essential Oil, 15 mL - Retail Value $12.99
From Simply Earth:
Spearmint was traditionally used to scent bath water and was used to aid digestion. Today it is commonly used as flavoring agent especially in gum and toothpaste, but its essential oil can also help those with queasy stomachs or in need of a focus boost.
I have never been a fan of minty scents unless they are from the leaves freshly plucked from my garden! This spearmint has a creamy and softer sort of mintiness that I don't hate. It is much milder and doesn't have any sharpness. I am open to giving this mint a try!
Rosemary Essential Oil, 15 mL – Retail Value $11.99
From Simply Earth:
Rosemary is a popular herb that can be found in most pantries across the world, but its uses are not limited to the kitchen. Its essential oil can be used to relieve sore and tight muscles while at the same time providing an uplifting and clearing effect on the mind.
Rosemary is Will's favorite scent, so I immediately put a few drops into my diffuser for him to enjoy. He gave it two thumbs up! I think he closely associates this herbal scent with the holidays, which is why he loves it so much.
Fit Essential Oil Blend, 15 mL – Retail Value $15.99
From Simply Earth:
Fit Essential Oil Blend helps you resist snacking between meals. The fresh scent will help you forget that you were hungry.
Ok, so nothing on earth could get me to stop snacking, I would guess. But this blend still smells great! It is a mix of grapefruit, spearmint, and lavender, so it has a few different qualities that I like. Its a very well balanced mix of floral, minty, and citrus!
Shampoo Base, 1 oz - Retail Value $3.99
Ok, this bottle could be bigger. My hair is super thick and I am guessing I will get maybe 2 uses out of this. But I am still super excited about it!
Conditioner Base, 1 oz - Retail Value $3.99
Of course, as we have shampoo, we have conditioner! I am really excited about this addition. I wish they sold larger bottles on the Simply Earth site, but maybe that is incoming later? Fingers crossed.
Plastic Bottle
This sub is pretty great at sending helpful little bottles and rollers for all of the oil concoctions you might want to create! This one would be great for a lotion or oil blend and the darker plastic will keep the contents fresher by shielding them from light.
I decided to try out the shampoo and conditioner this month. There wasn't really much to photograph since you just add the essential oils directly to the included bottles and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. I will say that I liked how they both turned out! In addition to the rosemary and spearmint oils, I also added in a few drops of lavender. Both formulas worked great and honestly make me want to buy more of the shampoo and conditioner base formulas to play around with.
Verdict: Simply Earth was a really fun time this month. Sure, I am not crazy about spearmint, but this essential oil was much softer than the Lifesaver candies I usually associate with this scent, and I really enjoyed using it in the shampoo and conditioner bases. Of course, I loved the Palmarosa and Rosemary oils and the Fit blend was very nice, even though I will forever snack.
