NUORI Supreme Moisture Mask, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $89.00
I am not familiar with this brand at all, but since it was the hero item this month I had my fingers crossed it would be a win. Well, it was! I LOVE this stuff. It has lots of goodies inside: shea, rose water, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and some truly lovely scents. This mask is on the heavier end of things. But what I love about this is that you can use it as a 10-15 minute mask that you wipe off with warm water (great for skin that is oilier) OR you can use it as a sleeping mask! Since I am dry (and too lazy to wash off anything I don't absolutely have to) I tried this for the last three nights before bed. I applied a thicker layer and massaged some of it in, then went to bed with the best intentions of sleeping on my back. Well, I ended up on my side and a little got all over my pillowcase, but for skin this soft and hydrated, I can live with that. A thinner layer and more of a pre-sleep massage would have solved this. Either way, I loved this and I am happy that it alone is worth over three times the cost of this box.
SkinCeuticals Phyto Plus, 4 mL - Estimated Value $11.60 (Buy a full-size 30 mL for $87.00)
The active ingredient in this rather pretty green serum is kojic acid which comes from Japanese fungi. It has the ability to reduce pigmentation by disrupting certain amino acids from creating additional melanin. The result is often a lightening and brightening effect if used over time. I don't suffer from any hyperpigmentation spots, but my mom does from years of sun damage. She has a few specific spots on her cheeks that bother her, so I plan on gifting this to her. Hopefully, it can help even out her skin tone over time. This sample isn't large by any means, but the liquid texture means a little goes a long, long way, especially if you are using it as more of a spot treatment.
Vichy LiftActiv Peptide-C Ampoule Anti-Aging Concentrate- Estimated Value $2.95 (buy 10 for $29.50)
I adore an ampoule! Something about putting on that little plastic safety cap and cracking the glass vial open is just really enjoyable! This ampoule has a very concentrated amount of ascorbic acid inside which is a skin dream because it boosts collagen production (which helps with texture and fine lines!) as well as fading hyperpigmentation. This little vial also has a nice dose of hyaluronic acid to restore moisture. There is probably enough in this vial for 2-3 uses if you manage not to spill it all over your lap (womp, womp.). Simply use the cap to seal it off and set it somewhere safe and upright until you want to come back to it. I applied this all over my face before the NUORI mask before bed and though I didn't notice any massive change after one use, these ingredients have worked for me in the past. I would imagine they would continue to do so over time!
Dermstore Daily Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40, 0.75 oz - Retail Value $15.00
Sunscreen in a fall box? YES. Sunscreen is a year-round act of self-care! Ok, I am on my soapbox here, but seriously, the sun is the #1 cause of skin aging. I get why so many people don't wear sunscreen daily. A lot of the options feel super icky on your body, especially on your face! I tend to be a little skeptical about facial sunscreens because I already play favorites, but I was super impressed with this one. It feels like a really effective sunscreen + skincare hybrid because in addition to SPF it also has ceramides and vitamins C and E. Nice! The finish is powdery smooth and feels very light. On my face, it also blurred pores and served as a primer. It has a very, very faint warm tint and no white residue, meaning it should work for most anyone!
Dermalogica AGE Smart MultiVitamin Power Firm, 5 mL - Estimated Value $21.67 (buy a full size 15 mL for $65.00)
I didn't love this. First, it smells like the lipstick that came in those playsets when I was a kid. Just not into that. Second, while this does have some great ingredients (more ascorbic acid, some tea antioxidants, etc.) I just didn't like how it felt on my face. I used it around my mouth as suggested and also where my crow's feet are appearing and .. it was just fine. It left those areas moisturized, but I def have other products that do a better job and that I enjoy using more.
Bioderma Sebium Mat Control, 15 mL - Estimated Value $9.95 (buy a full size 30 mL for $19.90)
My last item is a little tube that is probably more ideal for someone with oily or combo skin because the main purpose is to control oil production while moisturizing. I tend to prefer heavier moisturizers because my face is like a sponge in the desert. This has been the year of mascne though, so I thought I might enjoy this around my jawline, especially since it has acne-fighting salicylic acid! I only wear a mask for maybe 2-3 hours a week but my jaw has not adjusted! First, be sure to give this tube a shake before opening. Mine has separated a little! The texture here is a very light gel-cream that smells great. As expected, it is super light and not at all creamy when you rub it in. I was really pleased that it was actually much more hydrating than I would have thought and left my lower face feeling pretty darn great! For the price, I would consider buying a full size of this. Especially for summer hydration. If you have oilier or normal skin, I think you might just love this!
Verdict: This month's BeautyFIX has a value of $150.17 which is great for a $24.95 box! I get that appearance-wise, this assortment might look a little sleepy. But if you are a skincare junkie, this was a lot of fun! I am really, really happy with the NUORI mask and the SPF. The ampoule was fun to use (until I spilled the leftovers) and the Bioderma was an unexpected surprise hit for me. I was less crazy about the Dermalogica product, but that's ok. It's still a good thing to try out. I thought all around this was a great box with a very nice value!
