The theme for one of the upcoming GlobeIn November 2020 Boxes is…Umami!

Dear Mavens,

Fall is officially here to stay and as we transition to quieter times, we tend to seek shelter at home, with family, and with loved ones. In many cultures, food is seen as a way to express love. “Are you hungry?” and “have you eaten?” are terms of endearment that translate to “I love you.”

This month, us here at GlobeIn want to help you express your love with a kitchen and cuisines from all over the world. It’s time to warm up those kitchens with heat from the stove and oven and whip up something delicious. Get ready to fill the hearts and tummies of those close to you. No need to say “I love you” when your food says it all -- but it’s still nice to hear!”

Each box will include:

  • Handcarved Neem Wood Sushi Set - India
  • Bamboo Sushi Roller - India
  • Jade Pearl Rice - China
  • 3-Piece Ceramic Sake Set - Nepal

What do you think of the spoilers for November?

If I read comments like this 6 months ago I would’ve jumped to defend them unfortunately I can no longer do that (sigh) I’m still waiting on my September & October boxes & I’m willing to bet that I don’t actually recieve all of the add ons I purchased .They used to have amazing customer service now you can forget about trying to contact a real person due to the hundreds of complaints they’re receiving right now it’s a shame I really used to look forward to the add on sale each month.

I cannot recommend GlobeIn. The quality is hit and miss. For what it costs it’s not worth it. There are other, more effective way to make a difference for these artisans.

I’ve had quality issues with this box. Definitely some sloppy made items and a lot of things seem dirty where I need to sanitize them before using.

I had a $70 oil and viengar ceramic that while beautiful wasnt even waterproofed properly on the bottom. Water sued to leech out and damage where it was sitting. In the end I had to fix it with epoxy resin. I mean fine I like supporting them but at the price the quality needs to be there. Plus the customer service is so bad, late / canned responses. Which I saw they also did here hilariously, someone came through and replied to everyones comments months later with a canned response hahah. Very ‘on brand’ I guess

Nice how they picture a five-piece sake set but you get only a three-piece one…

I was thinking the exact same thing…why do they show a 4 piece +serving pitcher so 5 pieces total when the box only arrives with a THREE piece set?!

I would have loved some sake, although including alcohol is a problem. They probably couldn’t ship to Oklahoma and other states.

Globein merchandise is fine-quality and well worth the price. That being said, the same cannot be said for the subscription box right now, and I would not recommend subscribing until they get better. Going into the holidays, many people need to spend wisely, and the lack of consistency and service Globein is currently providing is not a good option. They are months behind in delivering boxes and customer service replies with blanket responses. They encourage new subscribers but don’t respect the ones they already have, including their newest subscribers (you just need to look at their Maven page on Facebook). And, on top of really late delivery, it is not uncommon to receive a broken item. A person shouldn’t feel lucky when an Item arrives Intact. I’m an annual subscriber and have been a subscriber for a while, but I will not renew. There are other companies, charities, and subscription boxes that support fair trade and provide much better service. If you are looking for fair trade gifts this holiday season, I highly advise looking elsewhere to ensure you receive the product in time and in one piece.

If you cancel your 3-month subscription well before the next billing date, just plan on being billed anyway and then to be told they will grant you this one-time “curtesy credit” because you had to chase after them to explain why you were even billed, which they will not, and without apology.

Meanwhile, I have been waiting SEVEN weeks for a small item I purchased from their marketplace (to satisfy a $10 credit I had for whatever reason), with no confirmation of payment, shipping status, or explanation of why it is delayed. I’m assuming they are impacted by Covid, but to not even send any communication at all is unacceptable.

Every month, the featured monthly box was always sold out, and trying to find an alternative versus taking the monthly credit was just not a fun experience and far too time consuming for me. The boxes I did receive were just ok quality.

The garden box they had earlier this year is what pulled me in but by the time I signed up, it was sold out. They tell me it will be back but I got tired of playing the waiting game, so I purchased it from their marketplace. The llama planter arrived broken. I was told it was sold out so they could not replace it. When I followed up a again, they managed to “find” a box and shipped that to me. This subscription is too much of a headache. I’m out.

I love the idea of Globein, but it does not translate to real time. It makes me wonder if the artisans are being paid timely.

COVID does not cause an indefinite period to not receive what you have paid for.

I’m out …

Are you hungry? Have you eaten? I hope so, because I only have enough chopsticks for me.

LOL. That is so funny and one of the reasons I don’t subscribe to this box anymore.

Stephanie

I’ve never subbed this box for this exact reason.

I hate to be picky, but it would have been nice if this set had come with actual sushi rice rather than jade pearl rice. So you could have made actual sushi, and it would hold together. But maybe you could buy a bag of sushi rice at the store and have the jade pearl rice as a side dish with another meal.

So… it’s a Japanese-themed box without a single item from Japan? Damn.. if I were Japanese I’d be pretty offended.

Inge

Possibly because “Made in Japan” items are more expensive, even the rice and the artisans they work with are based in certain countries.
But I was at least hoping for Japan’s Japonica rice that’s included. Not sure if that Jade Pearl rice is Japonica variant. It’s not a premium one, but you can find US grown Japonica rice easily.

But you’re not so perhaps don’t speak for other cultures.

Fun fact: sushi is actually very popular in certain Indian regions.

Sugarshay

I understand what you’re saying. Not sure what Po is talking about. You said sushi is popular in certain Indian regions, not that sushi is Indian. Sometimes, these comments are rude.

Po

Sushi isn’t Indian, sis. Good try though.

Dea

Man, my exact thoughts, but I thought “someone will jump down my throat if I said that, so I’ll refrain.” Or maybe it was just my s a r c a s t i c attitude (“because India is SO known for its sushi tradition”).

🙂 Anyway, GlobeIn, we appreciate the sentiment!
