Laurel & Reed September 2020 Review
As always, the packaging and presentation are beautiful!
The first card is just a general L&R info card while the second has specific info about the items in brands included inside.
Sahajan Nourish Face Cream, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $60.00
Sahajan makes my absolute favorite hair oil and I just love the overall vibes of this brand. Sahajan is a line focused on Ayurvedic formulas that are nourishing and just lovely to use! This cream is on the heavier side, but with cold weather on its way, this is a good thing for my dry face! Inside is a light brown cream with triphala (a power antioxidant!), gotu kala (AKA centella AKA cica!), and coconut oil. I am going to pause here for a second because depending on your skin, that coconut oil is either a good or bad thing. If you are oilier, this ingredient does sometimes clog pores, so proceed with caution. There are some serious benefits for coconut oil though, like its hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties. I have dry skin with larger pores (lucky me) and coconut oil doesn't seem to bother me much, so I loved this cream, especially right before bed. I also loved the comforting, warm, and resinous scent of this cream.
One Love Botanical C Facial Serum, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $75.00
Vitamin C is one of those ingredients that should be in everyone's routine because it brightens and evens out skin tone and promotes a smoother texture while protecting against the aging effects of free radicals. The tricky part about this powerhouse is that it isn't very stable by nature. Luckily for us, this serum has a vitamin C ester, which is a much more stable form of this antioxidant. This is paired with a blend of nourishing oils and plant extracts from jojoba, meadowfoam, shea, green tea, and more to form a serum that is beneficial to skin and also feels really nice when you apply it because although it is an oil serum it feels a lot lighter than some out there and leaves a very soft finish. I found that my normal cream moisturizer applied on top of this with ease and without any obnoxious pilling.
Pure Alchemy Turmeric Glow Face Mask, 1.6 oz - Retail Value $45.00
My next item was an Ayurvedic powder mask made of turmeric, licorice, neem, and hyaluronic acid. I added a little water and mixed (with a spoon because I forgot a brush at home!) and then applied. It is a very unique yellow-green color and a little lumpy, but I find messy masks are often the most fun if you have the time to apply them properly. I then let it sit for 10 minutes then used warm water and my fingertips to massage it and then rinse. The texture of this mask is nice because it allows for a little extra exfoliation when you remove it. My skin felt so soft and not at all dry after a thorough rinse. Because I do have dry skin, I tent to only spot mask, but this one was gentle enough to use on my entire face, even with the yellow clay inside.
It might not be the prettiest mask, but it sure feels incredible!
Laurel & Reed Handmade Wood Face Mask Bowl - Retail Value $12.00
Our last item was a truly lovely little wooden mixing bowl. If I get branded items in a box, I expect them to be of excellent quality, and this bowl is just that. It is thicker on the bottom but the sides taper off to a nice thinness while still feeling sturdy. It is the perfect size for mask mixing and the beautiful wood grain inside makes the whole experience feel extra special.
The Verdict: This Laurel & Reed delivery has a value of $192 which is great for the price of this box. I liked that 2 of the 3 items inside were inspired by Ayurvedic principals since I am looking to try more and more modern takes on traditional skincare. I was very happy to see Sahajan since I already love that brand, and also pleased with One Love. The powder mask by Pure Alchemy was a wonderful introduction to their line as well and the included wooden bowl was a perfect complement to a really wonderful mask.
