Better late than never! I saved the opening of this calendar until March! This was a major purchase, but I must say I might cancel every other beauty box in order to get this calendar again. It was a wonderful mix of skin, bath and other products- with the beauty stars of the year. The box itself is beautifully designed to be used on the vanity in the bathroom. Thanks again to Luna for giving the information in order to buy before it is sold out!

Lynne

Can this box be added to the swap site? I’ve got several items I’d like to list

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

This may have be mentioned, Luna do you know when these are going to begin shipping?

Reply ButtonReply

Rochelle

Julie, did you get your calendar?

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Hi Julie,
My calendar is supposed to be delivered tomorrow, and I did receive a shipping email from DHL today. I think I recall seeing one from Liberty too over the weekend, but I haven’t had a chance to weed through all of my emails (I think I just saw it in scrolling really quickly).

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

oh my god this delivery schedule is exhausting. they sent mine a week ago. it went to Columbus, sat there for two days, now back to NY, has to go to NJ and THEN it will come to me. DHL is never this awful on other things I get from Britain. I got it in the second release so … expected a wait but not like this.

Julie

Oh know, now I am worried, I have not received any delivery info, but my calendar has been paid for, but I may have ordered a few days after you. I did email their CS.

Rochelle

Julie, mine was delivered yesterday.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

Rochelle — My order says confirmed but did they provide tracking information after your order? Thank you.

Luna

For anyone who missed out on Cult Beauty’s advent calendar, and was planning on using a forwarding service to get it, Cult Beauty will be coming out with 5 new beauty kits, ranging in price from £25 to £45. You can find the kits by looking at “Cult Beauty” under Brands. They’re currently in waitlist mode.

If all kits were purchased they would total £175 with 42 products total, so it’ll sort of be like getting the calendar for cheaper, and with more products. 😉 The sad news for us U.S. peeps is that they’re also marked to not ship to the U.S. 🙁 I wonder if this is their alternative to the calendar for those that missed out on it.

Hi Luna,
Thank you for the excellent suggestion! After several years of advent-calendar excess and indulgence, I made a promise to myself that I would exercise restraint and not buy any this year. Given that these boxed specials aren’t actually advent calendars, I can happily put myself on the waiting list without guilt 😉

Reply ButtonReply

Piper

Thanks for the great detective work and the awesome idea, Luna! If I hadn’t been able to get the Cult Beauty advent calendar I would be tempted, especially by the skin savers box. You really are the greatest!

Reply ButtonReply

Piper

Thanks for the good wishes Luna. I am sorry you weren’t able to get one too. I really hope they change their shipping policy for next year. Fingers crossed! 🙂

Luna

I’m so glad you were able to get the calendar! 😀 I gave it a try, despite them confirming it wouldn’t ship to the U.S., and it was a no go for me. But I did feel a little good in that I was able to get on the site to add it to my cart before it sold out! That’s a bit of a confidence boost considering how fast it sold out, lol (once their site was back up & running). Since I have no willpower, I probably would have been tempted to get the calendar and whatever sets appealed to me if I could have. Well, money saved, right?!? lol Have fun opening your calendar!!! 😀

ME

I was planning on checking on whether Cult Beauty shipped to the US and am so surprised their launch crashed their entire website. I got the email at 5:30am EST and logged in at 7:00am and the system has been down since. It’s a nice calendar but IMO the Net A Porter and Liberty ones are better. I already received the NAP one it’s huge.

Reply ButtonReply

Piper

I was checking the Cult Beauty website when the advent calendar went live, before they sent the emails. They were not shipping to the U.S.

Diamond

I’ve had zero interest in advent callendars this year. Just I look at them and just think what a waste. .. Which is a great thing because I’m so so close to being credit card debt free and don’t need these temptations. Although am hoping to snag a $500.00 PS5 for Christmas for my husband! 😍🍰

Idk. I still buy from Sephora. Overall tired of product build up and the cost. Especially since I need to use what I have first. I’m excited for a $250.00 shopping spree though coming Black Friday/ Cyber Monday as part of my actual Christmas gift. 🎁Which will be wrapped up.

Reply ButtonReply

Margie

OMG Diamond,
I have been trying to get a PS5 too. I want to give it to my son. I have been up at midnight, 6am…
Different sites at different times.
I have made it to virtual waiting rooms and sat for hours. No success!
$500 what we will do for the ones we love, right?

Luna

FYI: In case you hadn’t seen yet, Sephora’s Holiday Savings event is coming soon. 🙂

I ordered this when it launched and thought all was well. Just got a refund to my form of payment but never got a cancellation email. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Hi Svetlana, since you mentioned you were keeping an eye out for Beauty Expert’s calendar, I thought I’d mention they now have their waitlist up on their site! 🙂

(I thought I’d put this as its own comment so others can see it too 🙂 )

Svetlana7e

Hi Luna,
Thank you so much for heads up. I went and signed up. What would I do without you? :).
Any news on mankind?

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Hi Svetlana 🙂 Mankind’s advent sign up is now up too! Just go to their website, and it’s the 2nd picture that scrolls through. Sadly, it seems like it’ll be a 12-day calendar this year, and not a 25-day calendar like in years past.

Piper

Hi Luna,
I was wondering if you were buying the Alyaka calendar, either version. It’s tempting for me because it has more unusual items than most calendars, but since almost everything is a sample I don’t think it represents a great value. However, I can get two weeks of use out of a 3 ml facial oil sample like the MZ Skin one (which I really like). So I know I would really enjoy the calendar. I would really appreciate your opinion. Thoughts?
Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Piper

Hi Luna,
Thanks so much for responding to my question! If I get the Alyaka calendar I am going to go for the luxe version too. I just really like some of the brands in the items they added. I am going to think about it a little more only because I already bought several calendars. I hope you enjoy yours! 🙂

Luna

Hi Piper 🙂
I did get the Alyaka Luxe calendar 🙂 Honestly, I wasn’t really sure if the extra cost was worth it, but I decided to go for it because it’s my first calendar from them, I love the brands that are included, and like you, I get many uses out of samples so it’s worth it to me to give it a shot. 🙂 After opening this year’s calendar I’ll decide if I want to get next year’s. 🙂

Tomato

I just checked out the Alyaka calendar. It looks like there are a lot of cheap fillers. Such as Oskia, Verso, and Juice beauty, let alone they are all sample sizes. Some items are just packet samples. It’s ridiculous for a calendar priced at over $200.

GMforever

I just checked their site and it’s still the old waitlist for 2019?

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I’m glad you found it 🙂 I just clicked on the “12 Days of Christmas … Join the Waitlist” picture that scrolls by on the face of their site (it’s the 2nd pic that scrolls by). 🙂 I hope it’s good too!

GMforever

Never mind Luna, I just googled and found the link to sign up, I had no way to find it from the BE site though.

GMforever

Thanks so much Luna. I love BE’s calendar, I have been getting them for the past 2 years so hopefully this one will be good.

Reply ButtonReply

Leela

Looks fantastic! But as I’m getting the Diptyque advent calendar I just can’t see getting both. Most of these brands are really fantastic. Santal 33 is an amazing fragrance, Diptyque is of course one of the best candlemakers, Dr Sebagh serum works really well… these products are all so fantastic!

Reply ButtonReply

TK

I purchased this yesterday. I never buy advent calendars but this one has so many great things I want to try and haven’t tried in the past. The things I’m most anxious to try happen to be the highest priced items too.

Reply ButtonReply

amandawoj

I just bought this, it’s my first advent calendar (even though I’ve been getting sub boxes for years) & I’m super excited! I actually worked 8 extra hours at work last week to help justify it to myself. Also, it says that it has free 4 to 5 day air courier shipping, which I’m also excited about, because I thought there might be a hefty shipping cost, since it’s from the UK. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll open it all at once or go day by day (I don’t know if I have the willpower for that)!

Reply ButtonReply

Vicki

I’m in the US and ordered the first day it came out, this is my first advent too! I also buy sub boxes but never an advent. I haven’t decided if I’m going to open day by day either….according to my shipping notice it should be here on Monday. Don’t know if I have the willpower to wait until December. 😂

Reply ButtonReply

amandawoj

I know, even if I can manage to go day by day, I might not be able to wait until december to start! Maybe it could be a countdown to thanksgiving?

Julie

This looks like a great calendar this year filled with products I will use. I just checked and they are not sold out yet.

Reply ButtonReply

Barbara

Luna, your spoilers for all of these wonderful advent calendars remind me of my childhood when my sister and I would pore over the FAO Schwarz toy catalogue and decide what our dream presents would be! Obviously most were incredibly expensive, but the dreams gave us so much enjoyment!
I am enjoying your descriptions and I may succumb to buying one of these glorious calendars. Certainly the Liberty calendar is among the best!!!

Reply ButtonReply

dia

My sister and I would do the same. Can’t believe it’s been forty years. Time flies…

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

In the 60s, for my younger brother and me, it was the Sears wish book catalog! Good memories.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Aww, thanks Barbara 🙂 I never got to see a FAO Schwartz catalog, but I remember as a kid me and my brother would do the same as you & your sister but with the thick Toys R Us catalog that would come in the Thanksgiving paper 😀 I think once a while ago I happened to get the Neimans (or maybe it was Barneys) holiday catalog, and that was definitely the grown up version of the toy catalog. 😀

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Hi Niki 🙂
For me, Liberty & NAP’s calendars are pretty on par with one another, but I did say that this year NAP really stood out to me primarily because of its value to cost like you mentioned. I honestly haven’t done a deep dive in evaluating its curation, but from scanning its contents I can tell I’ll enjoy it (like I always have). 🙂

One product that immediately caught my attention though, and would be the hero product for me from the NAP calendar, is the full size Dr. Barbara Sturm hyaluronic acid serum that retails for $300 which is the cost of the calendar, so in a way it’s like buying the serum and getting everything else for free… which I would totally take advantage of if that was an offer in a store, lol. I’ve always wanted to try Dr. Barbara Sturm products (her hyaluronic acid serum being one of the main ones), so being able to try one of her full size serums in a calendar I would have bought anyways is a huge bonus for me, plus I’d never pay $300 on a single product just to try it (assuming I wasn’t getting 24 other items for free with the purchase 😉 ); however, I would pay that for a serum if I thought it was worth it to me. 🙂

NikiD

Hi Luna- I think you said somewhere that if you had to pick, you’d get NAP over Liberty. Can you tell me why? Just based on cost/value? I see that both have many 15ml sizes versus true full sizes. What are hero items for you in the NAP? I’m a little bit of a novice with these brands but want to treat myself after this interesting year! Thank you in advance! And also, thanks to everyone who posts comments (non trolling or negative ones, that is)- I really enjoy reading them!

Lana

I’m also annoyed that they count travel size as full. I’m not seeing any rhyme or reason for what’s marked as full size. Bum Bum cream is sold in even smaller size than what’s offered in the calendar, yet it’s marked as sample size, but for some items I don’t see a travel size offered at all, yet they are marked as full. There are a couple of full size serums included that are really driving the box value up.

Diptyque Baies Mini Scented Candle 70g (full size) $36 *TRAVEL SIZE
VENN Anti-Ageing All in One Concentrate (full size) $185
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream 50ml $15? (25ml is $10 and 75ml is $20)
(MALIN+GOETZ) Meadowfoam Balm 30ml $12.75
Noble Isle Fireside Body Lotion 50ml & Fireside Shower Bath & Shower Gel 50ml (full size) $6 & $5 *TRAVEL SIZE
Aveda Botanical Repair Leave In Treatment 25ml (full size) $12 *TRAVEL SIZE
Le Labo Santal 33 Eau de Parfum 15ml (full size) $83 *TRAVEL SIZE
Votary Super Seed Serum 50ml (full size) $118
Vilhelm Parfumerie Dear Polly Eau de Parfum 10ml $25
Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream 15ml (full size) $85 *TRAVEL SIZE
Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse 30ml (full size) $13.50 *TRAVEL SIZE
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl $13
Margaret Dabbs Nourishing Nail & Cuticle Serum Pen (full size) $17.50
Mario Badescu Witch Hazel & Rosewater Toner 59ml (full size) $3.50 *TRAVEL SIZE (not even seeing the mini anywhere, idk how they got full size on this)
Susanne Kaufmann Herbal Whey Bath 40g $7.50
Bamford Geranium Hand & Body Wash 100ml $16
Dr Sebagh Serum Repair 20ml (full size) $97
QMS Medicosmetics Lip Line Corrector 15ml (full size) $200
Herbivore Prism 20% AHA 5% BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial 15ml $17.40
REN Clean Skincare Vita Mineral Active 7 Eye Gel 15ml (full size) $36
Hourglass Scattered Light Eyeshadow in Smoke, Aura or Reflect (full size) $29
Davines Nourishing Shampoo 100ml (full size) $12.80 *TRAVEL SIZE
Aromatherapy Associates Forest Therapy Bath and Shower Oil 9ml (full size) $9 *TRAVEL SIZE
Decree Light Cleanse 30ml $15.60
Spacemasks Single Eye Mask (full size) $4.70 (usually sold box of 5, idk if a single can really count as full size)
Liberty Small Strawberry Thief Washbag (full size) $25

I count 9 full sized products, including a makeup bag.

Noureen Khan

Hey Lana, do u think they changed(updated) item description on their website, as now it clearly states that the venn item is 20 ml and not full size.

Reply ButtonReply

Lana

I’m still seeing the item description as “VENN Anti-Ageing All in One Concentrate (full size)” without any actual size given on their website and another product is blocking the VENN bottle in the promo photo. Where does it say that it’s 20ml?

Tomato

The Venn Concentrate is also a travel size 20ml.

Reply ButtonReply

Lana

Thanks for the info! That really sucks. I believed them that it was full size since oz weren’t listed 🙁 this is extra bad now imo

Noureen Khan

I bought the calendar thinking that venn product is full size, so disappointed in this box now..

Luna

Thanks for confirming that 🙂 I was curious what its true size was since it wasn’t clearly stated, and I didn’t want to take Liberty’s word it really was a full size, lol.

Luna

Thanks for calculating everything 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

JayKay

Is there a breakdown of what each item is worth? I’ve never brought an advent calendar but this one is so tempting!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I haven’t seen one yet. I was planning on doing one, but I won’t be able to do one until Friday (if I remember & have the time). Maybe someone else might be able to provide one before then! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Vicki

I got one! So excited to try all the luxe products. Even the box is gorgeous!

Reply ButtonReply

AnninVA

I bought this one in 2018 and 2017, but I’m not tempted this year as I wasn’t last year. There are great products but nothing stands out as something I really need to try and the smaller sizes don’t tempt me to think this is a really great deal. They count travel sizes as full sizes.
This year I bought the Net a Porter, Lookfantastic the Body Shop Ultimate. I would love the Cult Beauty one but got Net a Porter thinking CB will sell out or not ship to the US.

Reply ButtonReply

Piper

Luna,
Thank you SO much for this information! You are the nicest! You have saved me from constantly checking the Cult Beauty site, plus now I know which night to set an alarm at a crazy hour for! I really want the Cult Beauty calendar this year. Thanks again, you are the best!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Yay! You’re welcome 🙂 I’m glad I could help!

Luna

I noticed they did that too (counting some travel sizes as full sizes) which I thought was odd. Out of my usual curiosity, I was planning on doing a value breakdown for this box but I probably won’t have the time to do it until Friday, and I’m curious to see how many of those travel sizes are sold in stores. I think sometimes when a company sells a travel sized product they count it as a full (maybe mini-full?) size.

And I saw where Cult Beauty confirmed their calendar won’t ship to the U.S. 🙁 But I guess it’s worth still checking out when it goes live because a month or so ago when they first announced the calendar, they confirmed it would ship to the U.S., so I guess it depends on whoever’s answering questions at the moment, lol.

Reply ButtonReply

AnninVA

Piper- FYI I used myukmailbox to get this calendar in 2017 before they shipped to the US. They knew what this advent calendar was and told me they had to search it and remove the perfume they couldn’t legally mail before forwarding it to me.

Luna

GMforever, that IS a tough decision! I can’t wait to hear what you decide! 😀

Luna

AnninVA, last year Cult Beauty’s calendar went on sale at 2am PST. Its launch date this year is 10/12. 🙂 I hope you’re able to get it!!! 😀

Luna

Thanks for sharing your experience Piper 🙂 I know it’s definitely a me issue because I’ve only heard good things about the international shipping services. 🙂

GMforever

Yes Luna. I think you and I are very much in line re Advent Calendars. I did not pay attention at CB’s calendar last year so never even tried to get it.
This year CB’s calendar seems even better than last year so people who will be able to get it will be so lucky. Hopefully next year will work out for us all.
I am now debating between Harrods (for its luxury packaging) & Liberty now. I like the products in Liberty’s calendar but I want the luxury packaging of Harrods. Decisions, decisions.

Piper

Everyone has to make the best decision for themselves, but I will say this just in case anyone is interested. It cost about $60 to ship the calendar to the US. To me, $60 on a calendar worth $1000 is acceptable. But I realize I am lucky to have the budget. Also, I did run into a couple of bugs during the process. I emailed customer service and they solved them. So it didn’t require any international phone calls. As I said, it’s not for everyone. But I thought people might be interested in my experience. 🙂

Luna

GMForever, along with unfamiliarity of the process, in line with what you said, the main reason why I choose not to use shipping services is because of the loss of “value” in the box/calendar I feel I’d be losing if I did. Plus, I just wouldn’t want to deal with the hassle of making international calls if something went wrong, lol. I’m totally with you about Cult Beauty’s calendar… for me, that was the most coveted calendar out of them all this year. Not only because of the curation, but also because I had just missed out on getting last years by mere minutes, so this year I wanted one even more! lol! It seems like a lot of people expressed their disappointment with the calendar not shipping to the U.S. this year, so hopefully they’ll make one that will for next year. 🙂 And in line with what you said… for me, after seeing the spoilers for all of the calendars, NAP’s was right behind CB’s for a must have calendar for me. 🙂 (of course all of the ones I’m getting are must haves for me, but NAP’s value brought out the heart eyes and they topped the must have list (after CB))

GMforever

I’m so sad to learn that CB won’t ship to US. That’s the one Calendar I wanted the most after NAP.
I was so hoping they would ship to US but it looks like a strong NO now. I don’t know if it’s worth it to use a forwarding service as it adds up a lot in price, not only we won’t be able to get VAT deducted, the shipping rate is in the $60/$70. Oh well, maybe I’ll just get the Liberty’s calendar then.

Luna

Hi Svetlana, I read that same thing… that they couldn’t ship to the U.S. due to distribution agreements with some brands. It is weird, because I once tried to purchase Drunk Elephant products from Cult Beauty, but they wouldn’t ship them to the U.S., … but yet they’ll include DE products in their goody bags which do ship to the U.S., lol.

Luna

Hi Piper, I hear those shipping services work great. I hope you’re able to get the calendar! 🙂 I’ve never used a shipping forward service before. I hear they’re pretty good, but I’ll just patiently wait until Cult Beauty and other boxes start to ship to the U.S. to get mine. I think I’ll get my fill with the other calendars I’ll be getting this year, lol. 🙂

tammy g.

guess i can’t buy any advent calendars this year…i have to think of others first now…like my 1 year old grandson…Micah..he’s so loving and sweet. i have to spend my money on him first…but i still get some of my boxes..

Reply ButtonReply

Denise

Thanks. I was wondering if this is in if it will ship with perfume it’s a hassle to go to the boxes and try to get them only to find out we can’t. Sad face. This one is out of my price range but looks so nice. If you had a page I would totally follow you. I think a lot of us would. You’re reaching fan girl status on here lol

Reply ButtonReply

Denise

Luna, may I ask what country you live in? You seem to get info on so many boxes that I never see in the US. Or are you just that good? Lol.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Hi Denise 🙂
I’m in the U.S. 🙂 I’m on a ton of email lists, and when I get emails from certain companies it prods me to look into what’s new, especially when I have a feeling certain things should be launching soon… like I know advent calendars usually start launching in September, so I keep an eye out on the sites that interest me 🙂 In this case, I received an early access email from Liberty giving me the opportunity to get their calendar a little earlier before it went live, and I saw it was going live later in the day yesterday. 🙂 I’ve heard of Really Ree, but since she’s UK based it’s hard to follow all of the calendars she posts since it’s hard to tell which ones ship to the U.S. and which ones don’t. But she definitely seems like a good source to see what’s out there and what could potentially be available in the U.S. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Hi Christina 🙂
I’ve heard mixed messages (from Cult Beauty themselves!) on whether their calendar will ship to the U.S., lol. I think it’s best to just check their site when it goes live on 10/12 to see if it really will!

The UK version of Space NK’s calendar is still available, but the international version that ships to the U.S. is out of stock. I tested it to see if the UK calendar would ship to the U.S., but it won’t. 🙁

It’s always hard to say what is the “best” calendar out there since we all have different tastes, wants, etc. Also, I really only pay attention to the multi-brand calendars, so that’s all I can really speak to. I’d say if you’re looking for highest value to cost, then this year’s NAP would be your best best. For the most part, the “feel” of the high-end multi-brand calendars are pretty much all the same, so I’d suggest looking at the curation of the calendars to see whose curations appeal to you the most. 🙂

Christina

Luna,
I keep hearing mixed messages about the CultBeauty advent calender. Will it ship to the US? And the SpaceNK calender is still available. To a first time advent newbie, which one is best in your opinion? Thanks again for always giving us the best beauty info!

Luna

Thanks Denise 🙂 This will ship with the perfume in it, and I’m beyond thrilled about that because really it’s only been through these calendars where I’ve been able to try Le Labo fragrances, which smell soooo pretty and makes me feel like a fancy lady, lol. But ya… some calendars will substitute an item or two… like SpaceNK’s international calendar substituted a fragrance and an aerosol product from their UK calendar for other things from the same brands.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any social media accounts, and commenting on MSA is pretty much as “social” as I get, lol. It works for me though 🙂

There’s an influencer/blogger from the UK who has her own site with a focus on Advent Calendars this time of year. She is beauty related and not sub boxes: search for Really Ree.

Thanks. I just thought luna had superpowers lol. (although that still may be true) some of these things are so off the beaten path, it’s like a treasure hunt lol

Just bought one… too good to pass up. The brands are top! There are a couple of things like the Venn all-in-one concentrate that just make it worth purchasing. Thank you Luna for the information! It’s a beautiful box.

You’re welcome 🙂 I can’t wait to work my way through this calendar in December 🙂

Luna

You’re welcome! 🙂 I’ve never tried that Augustinus Bader cream either, and what makes it so appealing to me is that every time I see it in a gwp it seems *that* is what people always want the most out of the whole gwp (either because they’ve already tried it or really want to) and are willing to make a purchase just to get their hands on it! Well, count me as another who can’t wait to get my hands on it! 😀

Hi Luna!
Thanks for the quick response! I think I will either go with NAP or Cult Beauty! It was a very hard decision! To be honest, the only thing I want the most is the AUGUSTINUS BADER cream! I’ve heard so many wonderful things about out! Thanks again for your input! 🙂

Looks like it’s sold out already. 🙁

I prefer the contents of the men’s calendar, but it’s not pretty 🙁 I did a yearly box sub instead of a calendar, keep it going past the season
