October 2020 No Make No Life "Halloween Queen" Review
Before we get started, it's worth noting this is the third box I've received since March. Japan faced shipping backlogs, suspended shipping to a growing list of countries, returned shipments, and other complications due to COVID-19. More from nmnl:
NOTICE FOR USA BASED CUSTOMERS: Unfortunately, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, on April 23rd Japan Post announced that flights to and from the USA have been reduced by 90% which resulted in delayed shipment of up to 4 months for Air Mail, with no guarantee of shipment. As such, we have made the decision to use Surface Mail, as it continues to operate during the COVID-19 crisis with a better guarantee of shipment at an estimated delivery time of 60-90 days.
Because of continued challenges, it looks like nmnl is moving away from Surface Mail in favor of other options. You can get all the details here.
The booklet gives you detailed information on each item, as well as instructions on how to use certain products. This month's theme is 'Halloween Queen.'
Happy Halloween Bath Powder, Retail Value $1.14
This is a Halloween bath powder, so it comes in a spooky orange color! The monthly booklet says that it would have a sweet aroma which made me worried it was just going to smell like candy. I was surprised when I opened this packet though because it smelled amazing! It really does have a sweet scent but it isn't overpowering. I thought it also smelled very lightly floral but overall a super clean smell. Since this is orange, it did leave a little stain on my white bath but I was able to get it off with a little extra scrubbing. Overall, I loved this bath powder because it smelled so wonderful and the orange color was fun! Plus, it left my skin feeling silky smooth.
Unicorn Point Pack, Retail Value $2.26
I received a point pack a few months ago and loved it so I was really happy to get more! Each pack is packed with hyaluronic acid which gives your skin extra hydration that will leave you feeling silky smooth. You can use these on your face, elbows, or knees. I have always had super dry knees, especially now since I am on the floor playing with my kids a lot, so my knees are always pretty yucky looking. I found that using these patches at least once a week on my knees really helped improve the skin's appearance and texture. I'm so pumped to have more as we enter the changing seasons where I live and my skin is becoming even drier!
Epielle Unicorn Sheet Mask, Retail Value $1.75
This sheet mask was super fun! The mask itself is a full unicorn face printed on the mask, I thought it was cute but it really scared my husband when he came downstairs to see me sitting on the couch with it on. The unicorn mask is purifying and soothing, but you could have received the mermaid mask which is glowing and hydrating. The booklet recommends washing your face and applying lotion before applying the mask, wear the mask for 15 to 20 minutes, remove and rub any excess serum into your skin. I thought this mask was great and just what my skin needed. It felt incredibly soothing on my dry skin and I was able to rub a lot of serum in after I removed it. I used this at night and woke up with a smooth glowing complexion.
Melty Oil Tint, Retail Value $5.19
This is an oil-based tint that helps keep your lips silky smooth. I love it when I don't have to apply a balm before lipstick, and you for sure won't need any with this because it keeps you so hydrated! The color has a glossy shine to it and left my lips feeling a tiny bit sticky, which I don't love. I did think that the color would come out a bit more red, but it's very light with somewhat of an orange tint to it. I honestly didn't love this at first, but once I wore it more and reapplied once or twice throughout the day, the color and texture really grew on me. This is perfect to toss in your makeup bag, diaper bag, or even back pocket to take with you for easy application!
Petit Recipe Donut Cream Lip + Cheek, Retail Value $8.13
Oh, this is just the cutest case ever! This cream is filled with Vitamin E and can be used on your lips or cheeks. Use it on your lips for extra moisture! This cream went on super smooth and left me with a light pink tint that I really loved. I haven't tried it on my cheeks just yet, but I can't wait to use it for that dewy 'no makeup' look that I love.
Momocos Hair Color Wax, Retail Value $5.97
This is such a fun item to receive for Halloween! I will start by saying though that this is not waterproof so don't wear it out in the rain. The good part about it being waterproof is that it does wash out quickly and easily! Simply add as much wax as you want to your hair to get the proper coverage. I only added a small amount to my son's hair, but boy did he love it! We are going to add a few more pieces in the front of his hair this weekend. I love how well it applies to the hair, but that it will wash out that night and it doesn't make a huge mess.
Halloween Face Makeup Palette
I really could have used this palette last Halloween when I did my son's makeup so that he could be The Joker. The palette has 12 colors and a small brush applicator to create any look you want this Halloween. The booklet recommends setting the makeup with powder before your Halloween party or trick-or-treat to give it staying power! My daughter is going to be Minnie Mouse this year so I will get to use this on her. We are going to our favorite pumpkin patch in a few weeks, and normally the kids get their faces painted, which is their favorite. There won't be face painting this year, but I might use this to draw something around their eyes to peek out from their masks before we go! What a fun treat this was!
Lovisia Heart Stick Blusher, Retail Value $17.01
This blush stick is so cute because it comes in a heart shape which they recommend applying it as a heart for your totally cute Halloween makeup! This looks like a cream-based blush, but it goes on like a powder which I love because it gives me great coverage. I love that I received the lighter pink tone that went on smoothly and matched my skin tone perfectly! I have a blush that I am obsessed with, but I have found myself reaching for this blush more and more!
Verdict: No Make No Life Box was the perfect start to Fall and all things Halloween! It was the perfect mix of spooky and cute! I am obsessed with the Halloween makeup palette and hair wax, and I know I will get a ton of use out of it since my family is obsessed with Halloween. The unicorn mask was silly with the printed unicorn on it, and it left my skin feeling like silk. The blush stick has become a new favorite makeup item for me, which is surprising because I have a blush that I have been using for years, but this goes on so beautifully! Both lip tints left me feeling hydrated and gave me that hint of red and pink that I always love for an easy every day look. At $35 + $10.95 for DHL shipping, I received 8 spooky cute Halloween beauty items that left me feeling so exciting for Halloween festivities! I love that this box gives me items that I can use every day, but it also gave me things that I can use on my kids to get them ready for Halloween this year. I wasn't able to find the retail value for the Halloween Palette but the retail value for the other 7 items came in at $41.45, so at $35 for the monthly cost of the box + $10.95 DHL shipping, you're paying approximately retail value for each item. This month the curation and the products were so cute and spot on!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you'll receive the November box.
Value Breakdown: At $35 + $10.95 shipping ($45.95) for this box with a retail value of $43.72, you are approximately paying $5.74 for each of the 8 items.
