Nomadik "Winter Travels" Review
There is a small trifold pamphlet that goes over the items included in this month's box as well as Nomadik tips, the Nomadik challenge, and some brand discounts. Each box also has a neat sticker.
Topo Designs Pack Bag 5L - Retail Value $19
This little bag is perfect to keep smaller items together when you throw it into a larger pack. It's not quite a toiletry bag, although you could certainly use it as one. It's more suited for small items or maybe even socks and underwear. If you have some items that you'd like to keep together and find quickly, this is your travel bag. Actually, my first thought was that I could throw my journal and some writing utensils into it. It measures 10 x 7 x 3 inches and is water repellent. It opens in a U-shape, so you don't have to dig inside it to find things. Mine is navy, but it also comes in olive and black.
Thread Wallets Elastic Card Holder - Retail Value $16 (Some styles on sale)
Perhaps you saw my GQ Best Stuff review, which also included a minimal wallet. I've been using it since and I have really liked the simplified feel. I switched all my cards and cash to this new elastic wallet and have been using it for a few days. The two are similar in their pros and cons, but the biggest difference is the price. The wallet in the GQ box was $62, where this one is $16. Sure the former is more formal, but the elastic wallet works great for nearly a quarter of the price. It also comes with a small ring to attach to your keys or bag. I immediately took mine off, since I won't be attaching it to anything. I'm not sure if Nomadik is sending out different styles of these wallets. The one I received gives me a kind of beach/surf feel. Either way, Thread Wallets has several styles to fit any personality. Check them out.
Humangear GoToob+ 3.4 oz - Retail Value $10.95
This little bottle from Humangear would be great for those of us who don't like to create extra waste. Sure, you can find almost anything in a travel size these days, but this would allow you to reuse the same bottle and save some trash from ending up in a landfill. The bottle is exactly 3.4 fl. oz., which is the maximum allowed by the TSA. It has a lockable cap, carry loop, and a small area to label what is inside. I could see this being used for shampoo/conditioner/body wash, but it does say it's food-safe, so you could use it for a snack on the go or for your shower needs – but I wouldn't try both.
Green Goo Dry Skin Salve - Jumbo Stick - Retail Value $9.95
Dry hands or feet drive me crazy. I'm constantly moisturizing my hands and I almost always wear shoes or slippers around the house during the winter. This salve stick seems more heavy duty than my typical moisturizer. It smells great and goes on smoothly. At first, I thought I couldn't see myself using it because I assumed it would feel like a sunscreen stick, which I don't like. However, once I tried it, I think I'll throw it in my new travel bag for sure.
RXBAR Chocolate Sea Salt Protein Bar - Retail Value $1.99
Truth be told, I eat a lot of these types of protein bars. I have them stashed in my car, camera and disc golf bags, and even in my toolbox. They are great for when you need some fuel but don't have the time or the desire for a full meal. I really liked the Chocolate Sea Salt flavor. I've typically gone with another brand of protein bar, but might have to start checking out RXBAR more often.
Verdict: This month's Nomadik box was all about making travel easy. There's not a lot of travel happening these days, but when it comes back these items will be put to good use. Everything is lightweight, small, and useful, but in my opinion, the salve stick was the only item that fit both the "winter" and "travel" theme. I'm digging the elastic wallet, but am going to pick the Topo Designs Pack Bag as my favorite item. I'm a sucker for things that help you organize. The total retail value of this box clocks in around $58. At around $38 for the subscription, there's not a TON of saved value, sort of like you paid full price for four items and they threw in the travel bag. I personally was happy with this effort from Nomadik.
