VetPet Box (Multi-Cat Version) October 2020 Review

Every month, VetPet Box sends toys, supplies, and wellness items:

You always get a pamphlet with information on a health topic. This month's topic is related to osteoarthritis. I know what this looks like in dogs but haven't thought much about it in cats before.

On to the items:

Herbsmith Sound Kitty (75g) - Retail Value $22.99

This is a joint support supplement containing glucosamine, chondroitin, and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM). It's formulated as a powder that you can add to your cat's food. I don't know if any of my cats have joint problems – although they are all seniors at this point (roughly, Sneaky is 12, Madison is 13, and Monkey is 14). Sneaky is approaching what we might call "overweight" and she kind of waddles instead of walks down the stairs, but she can still climb all the cat towers and jump up on furniture. She also eats wet food so she is the most likely candidate for this item. So far it does not bother her when mixed into her food but of course, after only a few days I can't judge how effective it is going to be.

Petlinks Catnip Caverns - Retail Value $4.59

These are paper bags, about the size of grocery bags, that have a catnip scent. I put one of these out in Monkey's favorite sunny window and he spends half the day in there now. You can see them unfolded and open in some of the kitty pictures below.

Pet Alert (2 static clings) - Retail Value $3.49

This is handy, I don't really have anything like it. I can check all the boxes since I have one dog, three cats, one tortoise ("other"), and one bird (a 20+-year-old female cockatiel). It is one of those things you hope you will never need to use but that makes you feel a little better having around.

Buddy Biscuits, Tempting Tuna (3 oz) - Retail Value $3.95 (found here for $3.16)

These are semi-moist treats that don't stink too much and come in a resealable package for freshness. VetPetBox sends out treats that are particularly well-liked by my cats and these are no exception – everyone eats these (although Sneaky finished most of the bag before and after her asthma treatments). I think this is a good brand; I also buy their hard cookies for my puppy.

Buddy Biscuits, Savory Turkey and Cheddar (3 oz) - Retail Value $3.95

If you get the multi-cat box you will receive several bags of treats. This month, we got a second flavor from the same brand. These were also well-liked. (Other than being a different flavor, I don't have much to say about them that I didn't already say about the tuna ones.)

Duckyworld Crayon - Buy 3 for $11.98

You can't buy these individually so I don't have an individual value listed. There are usually a couple of small toys in this box. This one is from a brand that my cats really like; these toys are long-lasting both in terms of durability and in terms of catnip power and interest – I've seen the kitties playing with toys from this brand months – or even years – after I got the toys. This is small, which is what my cats tend to prefer in terms of toy size.

Yeowww Stinkies - Buy 3 for $10.55

You also can't buy these individually. FYI, Duckyworld and Yeowww are basically the same brands, in fact, I think Duckyworld is the parent company and Yeowww is the toy line. So anyway, my cats like this as much as the crayon, which is not really surprising.

All for Paws Green Rush Eggplant

I don't have a price listed here because I can only find this for sale from Canadian and Australian websites which aren't a practical source for U.S. residents to order cat toys from. The link above goes to a Canadian site. Anyway, these are two small catnip plushes (they're actually identical though facing different ways on the card). These were Monkey toys for sure, he spent a lot of time rubbing his face on them.

Mad Cat Bacon Me Crazy Kicker - Retail Value $7.99

Mad Cat toys have both catnip and silvervine. Madison is my silvervine-loving kitty and he had a great time with this. I took lots of pictures, of course, and you can check them out below. (Madison doesn't really do the "kicker" thing but he rolls around on the floor all over toys instead and that's what he did here.)

Gratuitous cat photos:

(Sneaky is the calico, Madison is black, and Monkey is tan and white.)

Verdict: I calculated a total value of about $46.96 for the October VetPet Box for cats, not counting the crayon, small fish ("stinkies"), and eggplant toys, so you are definitely coming out ahead in terms of value since those together would probably add at least another $10, if not more. More importantly, everything was useful. My cats loved all the toys and treats and it is nice to get the supplement to try without having to buy it at full price, especially since I have three senior kitties and osteoarthritis risk increases with age.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? New subscribers usually get an introductory box. However, if you contact VetPet Box, you can get a past month’s box (for instance, if you really want to get the dental box more than once, because your cat has bad teeth).

We do sell the stinkies individually where I work – they retail at $3.99, if that’s helpful. We also sell them in a set of 3.

I suspect it’s not profitable for online retailers to offer items priced that low for individual sale. But yeah, if a physical store sells toys from that brand it is a good place to look for the smaller toys they offer.

Monkey has been spending a couple of hours a day in that one. I wonder where he is, and then he’ll move and it rustles a little bit.

Such lovely kitties! I also have three senior kitties. What a great box! I love the fire alert decal, I think that’s a thoughtful detail for pet owners. My cats loooove the yeeeeeow toys so much, they have a couple bananas and a cigar. Lol. The eggplants are adorable!! Love all the pictures.
