Marked by Inked "Wild Heart" 2020 Review
Included in the box is a booklet that lists each product with quick details about the artist or brand associated with it. This month's theme is "Wild Heart" and features the artist Mikhail Anderson, Russian born and now located in NYC. This month's note from Marked says there is a total value of $100+ inside so let's see what we have this month!
"Wolf" Postcard by Mikhail Anderson
This postcard is truly unique and designed in Mikhail's signature style. He uses light and shadow to create polygons that together became this wolf. According to the booklet, "Anderson uses photographs to outline how these colorful shapes will erupt with life and transform into a remarkable piece of art." My cousin has a son named Wolf who we are missing dearly right now so I decided to send this little postcard off to them!
"Skull" T-Shirt by Mikhail Anderson
This shirt is another abstract design in Mikhail's signature style. This style is called "Trash Polka" which means Mikhail mixes realistic and abstract elements to give the design a unique flow that contrasts most squared art pieces. I love how unique each of his pieces are and how much detail goes into everything. The shirt itself is soft but a little thin.
"Fox" Canvas by Mikhail Anderson
My son's name is Fox so we knew this was going to be for him. He instantly put it on the bookshelf in his room to proudly display. He said it looks like the fox is strong and spitting fire. For Mikhail, he used a splatter technique to "contrast the striking realism of the fox at its center for a powerful piece."
Whitening Strips by Cleaner Smiles - Retail Value $6.95
I really enjoy using teeth whitening strips, mainly because they are super easy to use! You can apply these without any mess, and you can leave them on for around 15 to 30 minutes. They work to brighten your teeth by removing those deep set-in stains that you can't really do anything about just by brushing and flossing. I can't say that I ever notice a huge difference with whitening strips unless I am using them consistently every other day for a length of time, which I did do before I got married and noticed a difference, but I think any self-care like this is important. These worked well and are almost gone!
Pet CBD by Osiris Organics, 1 fl oz. - Retail Value $26.95
We have an older rescue dog named Rufus who honestly could really use the calming benefits of a CBD oil. The only problem is that he can be so finicky that he refused this oil. We tried to drop some in his mouth, we tried it over his food, and in his water to which he refused to eat or drink. We are going to keep trying because as a rescue dog that is afraid of everything, I know he would really benefit from this, but if he refuses we plan to pass along to one of our other doggie friends. This oil is made with Organic Extra-Virgin Olive Oil and Phytocannabinoid-Rich Hemp Extract while being THC free — meaning your pet can enjoy all of the benefits of CBD with no THC side effects and no high.
Topanga Hot Sauce by Tiffany's Torcher, 3.8 fl oz. - Retail Value $12.00
Hot sauce is a staple for my husband, and he genuinely enjoys trying new brands. If you look at the sauce in the jar, it looks super spicy because you can see little pepper seeds floating around, which hints that you might want to watch out because this is hot! However, after tasting it on its own and with food, we found the heat to not be overpowering. It is spicy but still delicious. It worked really well over eggs, on tacos, and even with some chips. This is the OG sauce from Torcher and is vegan, sugar-free, non-GMO, and gluten-free. It is made with fresh habanero, jalapeno, serrano, Thai, and Arbol peppers in a tomato/garlic base, lemon juice, vinegar, and a touch of sea salt. What a perfect hot sauce to add to our collection and it would even make a great stocking stuffer.
Ink Enhance Sunscreen Cream SPF 15 by Inkeeze, 3.3 fl oz. - Retail Value $20.00
I didn't think I would love the smell of this cream, but the blend of cucumber and coconut was surprisingly fresh! This is a daily lotion that contains SPF 15, so not something you'd want to use for a full day at the beach, but it is great for day-to-day wear. You can reapply every two hours for ultimate protection. This cream is made with natural extracts and botanical moisturizing elements to help prevent ink from fading and tattoo lines from blowing out. Even if you aren't in the sun a lot, tattoos can fade over the years if not properly cared for. I think that is a common misconception, that we care for the tattoo during the healing process, and beyond that, it's just something to enjoy, but you really need to nourish it as much as possible. This cream is a great way to lock in moisture to your skin while protecting your tattoo from harsh elements that could cause fading over time. This is going to be a new daily item for myself and my husband to use on our tattoos from now on!
Ink Shield Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 by Inkeeze, 60 fl oz. - Retail Value $19.99
Spray sunscreen is my favorite, especially with SPF 50! We spend a lot of time outside with our kids from spring to the fall, which includes a lot of time at the pool and parks. So we are constantly using sunscreen, which is why I will never complain about receiving a new bottle. Unfortunately, it is winter where I live so rain, snow, and gloomy days are what's in store for the next few months, which means I don't really have a need for this bottle just yet. I did already tuck it into my pool bag though so it is ready to go once we can use it again! Like the cream, this sunscreen is made with INK-BARRIER technology to protect your tattoos from the sun and other harsh elements. It is reef-friendly, ozone-friendly, made in the USA, not tested on animals, and UVA/UVB blocking.
Verdict: This months Marked by Inked box was a fun mix of products. The thing that I love the most about this box is learning about the new featured artist. This month we met Mikhail Anderson who uses unique techniques to create some really beautiful and inspiring pieces of art. I truly enjoyed the fox canvas, which is now proudly in my son Fox's room, and the wolf postcard that I was able to send to my cousin's son, Wolf. The shirt is so unique and unlike anything that I own. The hot sauce was a really fun surprise this month! I had never heard of the Torcher brand, but this sauce had the perfect amount of kick to it without being overwhelming. So it is great to use daily on various foods, which I love! The sunscreen and daily cream were a really fun way to learn about the brand that is working so hard to develop products that help protect tattoos over the years. While I can't use the spray sunscreen right now, I know that I will eventually get a lot of use out of it. I wasn't able to find most of the items for sale online, and it can be hard to put a value on products like this, especially the art. What I was able to find online though came to an estimated retail value of $85.89. I think this box has done an incredible job featuring new brands that are really changing the tattoo world. I also love that each month is different based on the featured artist, you never know what style of artwork you are going to receive. This really is a top-of-the-line tattoo box that would make the ultimate gift for the tattoo lover in your life!
