Wicked Good Perfume "Witches Cauldron" Review October 2020

At the top of our box, we received a little welcome note. I have actually been reviewing this subscription for a year now and here are a few things to note about these fragrances:

  • They are formulated without phthalates, parabens, or petroleum
  • These are vegan and cruelty-free and they use sustainable ingredients that are responsibly sourced
  • I am not a huge perfume lover because they usually give me headaches, but these unique, handcrafted fragrances do not!

This month's theme is "Witches Cauldron" which is fun and fitting for October. On one side, this card lists the products, the scents they contain, and their retail value, while the back has some information about their box review contest and some savings for scent club members.

To go with our Halloween theme, we also had a fun little surprise in our box. These black spider rings made for a very nice presentation!

Wicked Good 'Root of Hemlock' Bamboo Charcoal Incense

Our first item is a tin of bamboo charcoal incense. These little cones burn well and fill the entire room. My husband actually walked in and said "it smells like church in here" (he grew up Catholic), however, I think it reminded me more of a hookah bar! The smell is sweet and smoky with just a hint of the clove and amber followed by notes of black sandalwood and I think I even get some of the Haitian vetiver. The other scents to note are black pepper, which didn't stand out much to me, and incense. I thought it was a great blend for fall!

Wicked Good 'Slip of Yew' Gloss Dry Oil Spray

I really love the dry oil mist that I have received before and this spray is very similar, although the spray is a bit more concentrated than the mist. These oils are hydrating and soak into the skin so nicely leaving behind a lovely scent. This blend is crispy juicy apples, autumn sweet melon, and sugar crystals. Honestly, this one smells just like it sounds! I note the sweet melon which blends nicely with the fruity burst of juicy apple. It's a great fall scent, but also one that I think would work any time. My skin is loving the blend of organic coconut and argan oils that this has in it along with meadowfoam seed oil.

Wicked Good 'Wing of Fairy' Perfume Oil Roller, 10 mL - Listed Value $18.00

Our perfume roller this month is a blend of quince, lotus, muguet, peach blossom, hawthorn, orris, and cedar leaves. This is a good balance of fruity and floral notes. It is fresh and vibrant although the cedar leaves seem to add a bit of a musky scent to it at the finish for me that I really enjoy after the burst of fresh fruit at the front. Wing of Fairy is actually a very fitting name for this scent!

Wicked Good 'Wool of Bat' Perfume Spray, 1 oz. - Listed Value $29.00

Our perfume spray is a blend of labdanum (I had to look this up – it should give an amber scent), patchouli coeur, guaiacum, pepper bourbon, vanilla absolute, and black styrax. I like the scents of patchouli, bourbon, and vanilla a lot usually, but for some reason, I do not enjoy them all together here. I don't know how to put it without being rude or politically incorrect, but it has a scent that feels a bit too mature for me. It's not unpleasant, but it just doesn't appeal to me. As I mentioned, I have been reviewing this box for a year now and in that time there have been very few scents that I weren't fond of and it's bound to happen at some point. Maybe I just have an aversion to bat wool? 😜

Verdict: I thought this month's box from Wicked Good Perfume was a lot of fun. The spiders and the theme made it feel like an experience and the sweet, smoky incense provided a nice ambiance to go with it. While I love the dry oil spray and the roller, this month's spray was kind of a miss for me, but since I have been happy with 99% of the scents I've received over the past year, I don't think it's a big deal. I still feel like it's a great value for this box and I look forward to seeing what new blends they will include each month!

While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I keep saying I need a break of scents but each month I love most of the items!! The spray for October was a miss for me also, just too reminiscent of musty perfume. But I love everything else and thought the glitter in the roller was a fun touch. I just can’t quit!

The wool of bat smells EXACTLY like the stuff my parents used to put on my mosquito bites (it’s very popular in China). I was considering cancelling because I hated it so much, but I will stick around and see how the subsequent boxes are. This was my second box, but since you had mentioned you like most of their scents, I’ll give it another month!

Oh definitely give it another try, Fawne! It’s very rare that I don’t like a scent, so hopefully, next month will be a winner for you! 🙂

Funny I was a little put off by wool of bat at first, but now it’s one of my favorites! It has an odd smell but somehow it’s still very alluring and addictive. The curation of this sub blows my mind! Cheri is a true artist and her love of her craft shows each and every month ☺️🦇

I think it’s that muskiness that is addicting! My mom loves musk so I’m going to see how she likes it. Cheri is definitely an artist – I’m always in awe! 🙂

@Snow…I agree about the Wool of Bat. It took a little while to get used to, but this box, for me, knocked it out of the park! One of my favorites so far! And I do have to say that Cheri is amazing!! She is so personable, passionate, and gets back to you right away to answer any questions you have. This would make an awesome Christmas gift for anyone that’s hard to shop for who loves perfumes and body care products.

I tried using the BACK15 coupon code on the monthly subscription option but it didn’t work. Is there another coupon available?

I agree about the perfume spray, that was a definite miss for me. I couldn’t tolerate the incense either. But I really do love almost everything they send me, so I don’t mind when certain boxes are more of a miss, because I’ve gotten so many things that I absolutely adore!
