The Beauty Box by Bombay & Cedar October 2020 Review
The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands. All of the products come in this drawstring bag!
Shine Serum by Masami, 60 ml - Retail Value $34.00
I have very dry, curly hair that is also super long right now, so it basically drinks in conditioner and hair oils. I was really excited to give this shine serum a try since the brand was new to me, and I don't currently use a serum before styling. I am honestly in love with this product! After washing, I let my hair dry in a towel per my usual routine. Once I was ready to style, I used 3 drops of this serum on my hands and worked it through my damp hair before styling with hairspray. This serum made my hair feel soft, it looked shiny, and there was way less frizz than usual. The best part for me was that my hair didn't look or feel greasy which is key since I don't wash my hair every day. This is also made without mineral oil or water, it is paraben-free, vegan, phthalate-free, and cruelty-free. The bonus is that this bottle is really big so I am going to have it for a while!
Super Oil by Évolué, 1 fl oz. - Retail Value $68.00
I have used a product from this brand before and am sort of blown away by the price tag! For me, I'm still undecided if I like this super oil. I am the type of person that really loves facial oils and I like having a slight oil shine to my skin. My skin is naturally dry, so I don't really have any issues with oil being too greasy. The first thing that I noticed with this super oil is that it says it is good for all skin types and won't leave you feeling greasy or oily (which, as I said, really isn't a concern for me). It is a light oil that I would say is more of a watery cream than an oil. It is made with olive-derived squalane oil, vitamin A, oil-soluble vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K to protect and repair your skin. They recommend using 2 to 3 drops in the morning and at night. A lot of the reviews that I saw for this mentioned that the reviewers had never used an oil before and that this was great because it didn't clog their pores. I am going to keep using this for a few more weeks to see if it grows on me and to allow time to see results, but right now I'm still not really feeling like it is hydrating enough for my skin. The verdict is still out!
CODE LLE Lid Lift Enhance by Code Beautiful, 0.22 fl oz. - Retail Value $29.00
This is a really interesting product and is unlike anything that I own! This is a lid primer and natural eye shadow all in one! It works to lift and brighten your eyes while improving the condition of your skin, while also being cruelty-free, paraben-free, and vegan. It is liquid so you want to apply with either your finger or a makeup brush, plus it is super buildable so you can call make it as natural or dark as you want. I highly recommend watching the 'how to' video on their website for this – I found it super helpful before applying! This "Lid Lift Enhance" comes in two colors: Light Hearted or Deep Moments. I received the Deep Moments shade, but I sort of wish I had received the lighter tone. In the 'how to' video, the makeup artist did a blend of both shades which I really loved so maybe I will have to purchase the lighter shade on my own. I've used this a few times already and am really enjoying it! I wish it had a bit more staying power though because I notice a good amount of fading within a few hours of applying, but overall it is quick and easy to use. It gives me a more natural look, which I really like! I tend to wear a bit more eye makeup in the winter, but this makes for a great and easy look that would work really well with a bold red lip. I can see myself using this a ton in the summer when I have a tan and want an easy look quickly!
Outlast Lip Liner by Nanacoco - Retail Value $7.00
Give me all of the lip liners! I am newly back on board with using a lip liner after receiving one in a different box where I realized just how much they transform a lip look. This liner went on smoothly and matches a lot of lipsticks that I already own! I paired it with the red lipstick that I received in the September box. The brand is also vegan and cruelty-free which is always an added bonus!
Micro Derma Roller by Kitsch - Retail Value $18.00 (found on sale here for $12.60)
I want to start by saying that my mom is the owner of a spa where their head esthetician just received her certification to do micro-needling. It was a lot of work for her and takes a lot of time, practice, and studying. While I totally love at-home self-care, I do think that some treatments are best left to professionals and might not be great options to do at home on your own. This is one of those items. I think the instructions could have been more detailed, and I wish that this set came with the necessary cleaning products to disinfect the roller after use. It is important to note that you shouldn't use this too often, you want to apply even strokes, do not put too much pressure on the roller, apply serums and moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated, and avoid the sun after using. I even applied slightly too much pressure in one area and had some red spots that bled slightly but boy did it burn! The roller itself is a .25mm stainless steel microneedle that works to stimulate collagen, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and is known to improve the appearance of rosacea and hyperpigmentation. While this product was not for me, I think, if used correctly, it could be a great option for someone to use at home. Just be sure to research the product, watch as many 'how to' videos as you can, and make sure you have all of the proper cleaning products and skincare products to apply to your skin before using – then proceed with caution.
Verdict: The Beauty Box by Bombay & Cedar was a big hit for me this month! The only item that didn't work for me was the roller, and that really is just based on what I have learned from being the child to a seasoned spa owner. Sometimes things shouldn't be done at home, but that is totally a personal opinion, and someone else might feel absolutely comfortable using this at home safely. Microderma can be a game-changer for problem skin so I encourage you to research it before using it for the best results. My favorite product this month was the hair serum, it honestly changed the texture of my curls instantly! A little goes a long way and leaves me with defined curls that feel soft and have less frizz. The lid enhancer was a big surprise for me because I didn't really know exactly how to use it, but once I watched the video on the site, I knew it would be great for me. I've already used it a few times and am really enjoying the natural look that I can achieve with it. The liner was a great item that I know I will use, and I was even able to pair it with a lipstick from last month's box. The super oil isn't blowing me away just yet, but that is mainly because I have super dry skin so I think that is more of a personal preference rather than speaking to the performance of the oil. I calculated a retail value of around $156, and at $31.95 a month for this box which is an incredible deal! I was truly blown away by the quality of the products! Each item felt unique and different for me as well which I really appreciate in a beauty box. This is the perfect gift to give yourself or to send to a fellow beauty lover who is always on the lookout for that new "it" brand and product!
