MrMiSocki Volume 3.2 'Labbit & Socki' December 2020 Review
There are A LOT of sock brands in the market. Offering crazy, colorful designs and assuming there’s a customer is no longer enough. So if you’re going to offer wild designs, why not accompany it with an equally amusing comic book?
Each pair is packaged in a branded plastic ziplock bag. Which, in theory, makes for a great, reusable keepsake. It contains not one, but two, interesting contents.
The Brooklyn-based sock brand differentiates their sock line by accompanying each pair with a short comic about a lost sock finding its way through the “underground world of solo socks.” But we’ll come back to their storytelling technique. You’re probably interested in how these socks look and feel, right?
These socks are very comfortable. The lightweight, breathable material (75% combed cotton, 22% nylon, 3% spandex) feels fantastic on foot. My toes enjoyed ample wiggle room. I’d liken their weight and feel to a dress sock. This is not a bad thing but something to be mindful of based on your particular style preference.
Don’t sleep on another important sock characteristic: sock band elasticity. I have no use for a sock – skinny legs or not – if they can't stay up on their own. Through a couple of wears and a wash, I can confidently say the Mr. Misocki-branded ankle cuffs are impressive enough to keep in the dresser. I wouldn't mind a design update to the gold-banded, overtly-branded cuff, however.
Speaking of which...we all know the design makes or breaks a sock purchase these days. This reviewed pair – Volume 3.2 - Labbit & Socki” – is definitely unique. The collaboration with creative art collective, Kid Robot, features an abstract blue and yellow design with two mismatched faces (presumably Labbit & Socki).
There was a time in which wild sock designs were my MO. The more outlandish the better. While I’ve since purged my drawer in favor of solids and subtlety, I don't regret falling into old habits now and again. These, quite frankly, grew on me over time. Hard not to look down at your feet, see a bow-tied, goofy face and not laugh. That counts for something.
Entertainment comes in many forms with MrMiSocki, which brings us back to the comic book. A brand dedicated enough to its product to produce an accompanying comic – plus a bonus back page game! – is a brand worth buying.
The Verdict: MrMiSocki is a quality sock with unique designs and an absolutely entertaining story. With prices varying between $18-20, these fall in line with other premium sock brands. While I'd consider it the top of my price range, I do believe the sock's unique design, packaging, and storytelling justify the price for anyone interested in showing off a bit around the ankle. If nothing else, it’s a heck of a conversation starter.
