Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and renting service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy the pieces they love most at a discounted price. Right now, you can even get your first month of Rocksbox membership for free!

(Read on to learn how, or check out our list of other free subscription boxes here!)

FYI - COVID-19 Update: You can read about how Rocksbox is committed to the safety of its team, subscribers, and community here.

Upon subscribing, you'll take a "style survey" so Rocksbox can suggest jewelry pieces that fit your style. You can also browse their catalog and add pieces to your wishlist. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your wishlist.

Try on the items from the box and wear them as long as you'd like. From there, you have two choices. If you love any of the pieces enough to want to keep them, you can put your monthly "Shine Credit" towards your purchase.

Or, if you're ready for another style, return your box using the free shipping label and reusable envelope you got with your shipment. Shortly after, you'll get a brand new box of jewelry to enjoy!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Rocksbox Rental Jewelry November 2020 Review

Here's the info booklet that came with the jewelry set. It includes a product list with retail and member-specific pricing. Also included was a jewelry care card.

A free return shipping label is also at the bottom of the box.

FYI: The outer envelope that Rocksbox ships inside doubles as a return shipping envelope! Be careful as you cut it open—there's a second adhesive strip that can be used to reseal the envelope for its trip back.

Rudiment Embarcadero Ear Cuff - Retail Value $40.00, Member Price $34.00

I don't think I have ever gotten a piece in this subscription with abysmal quality. Until now. This cuff's quality is beneath Rocksbox and I am shocked it was even in their rotation. First, it was way too big for my ear. It just kept falling off. No worries right? Cuffs are usually adjustable. Well, squeeze this one and those fake plastic pearls just fall right off! Not cute. Second, the whole thing just felt cheap which is really unusual for this subscription. I can't wait to send this back.

I quickly got this shot before the cuff fell off. I had to recline my head a little to make it stay in place, just for this quick picture.

Sophie x Sterling Simple Huggies - Retail Value $65.00, Member Price $55.00

In stark contrast to that disastrous cuff, these earrings were absolutely magical. Sure, they are super basic, but when you have multiple piercings in your ear these make great layering pieces. I was delighted to find they were a lot larger than I expected and that they were more oval than round. They have a wonderful heaviness to them and the seamless closures snap into place audibly, which I always enjoy. And they are solid sterling silver, so I know they won't irritate my ears if I leave them in for days and days (which I have). I loved these so much I ended up keeping them!

I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it.

Tess + Tricia Textured Moon Drop Earring - Retail Value $93.00, Member Price $89.00

I loved these earrings! The mix of the edgy chain with the crystal-studded moon is the perfect blend of sweet and strong. They don't weigh a lot but they weigh enough to feel nice on, and the 14k gold plating makes them so shiny!

The Verdict: My Rocksbox pieces this round were the best and the worst I have ever received from this subscription. That cuff... was just terrible. The other earrings, however, were wonderful! So wonderful that I bought one pair with my own $$$ (I have been very well behaved. This is only the second time I have done this!). I plan on getting lots of wear out of those little silver hoops. If my budget had allowed, I probably could have been convinced to keep those gold chain moons too!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Every box is different and packed based on the customer's tastes and what's available at the time. You can, however, give the Rocksbox stylists a nudge by adding your favorite pieces to your wishlist!

Value Breakdown: Rocksbox membership costs $21 per month. At retail, the three pieces would cost me $198 with my Rocksbox discounts and the member pricing including the buy-all-three-items discount, and the $21 of Shine Credit (the membership fee for the month, which goes towards your purchases), my $15 forever credit, and the $10 buy-all-three discount, that price drops to $132.

Since I did purchase a pair of earrings with a cost of $55, my discounts lowered their cost to only $19 with the $21 monthly credit and my $15 forever credit.

Joy-Not the Other One

I signed up for this box with the awesome Black Friday deal of your first month free. I ended up buying a piece my first month because it seemed crazy to waste the free money. Lol. I do however plan on canceling as soon as I return the set I have out now and here is why:

I have found the selection (for me personally) extremely lacking but whenever I do find something I love it is never available to get. To be honest, I only signed up because I desperately wanted a pair of earrings (the eyelash hoops Megan was able to rent I believe in November of 2019) that I saw in a review here but now those earrings are only available to purchase in the store and are not available for monthly rental. That means I can’t use my monthly credit (or forever credit for that matter) to pay for them nor can I try them first.

The sizes of things are not clearly stated so this month I wound up with a totally wasted choice because the cuff that sent would barely fit a toddler. Very disappointing. I also got the matching earrings which I’m not wearing without the cuff (and no it will not stretch even though it’s a cuff-it is Teeny) so they were a bust too.

Tons of items do not have pictures of anyone modeling them so it’s hard to tell if a hoop if large or small. Plus I like to see how things look on a human before ordering.

The customer service is strange. They are very frequent with their communication but the messages they send are usually not applicable to me (and I’m not referring to mass emails, I’m talking about one on one messages) and when I respond I get canned answers in return.

All in al I’m glad I tried it but it is definitely not a fit for me.

We agree on many things about this subscription! I signed up for the free month in July and have since purchased a piece almost every month, but I go through a lot of opening the box then returning the set right away because the jewelry doesn’t fit me or is much smaller than expected. After the second cuff they sent was so comically small, I gave up on getting one from Rocksbox. I’ve been trying to avoid getting another from “my stylist” by accident but sometimes I miss the window of time to swap items.

Without the ability to see most of the jewelry modeled, it’s sort of a craps shoot. My most recent set contained a Celtic knot pendant and said pendant was so tiny my sister said it looked like it was just a tangled chain! So I’ve gone through many sets. But with the membership fee I feel compelled to buy something every month because it’s sort of like I already put money towards it…

I’m weighing whether or not to continue. There are definite cons but I’m having a hard time saying no to the pros!

I don’t subscribe because where would I wear jewelry right now, but I actually like the idea of really small cuffs, because my wrists are 5.25 inches in circumference and 90+% of cuffs fall right off my wrist because the opening is too big.
