The See New Skincare Box November/December 2020 Review

There was a second card with details on this month's brand, MetaPora! It also included a self-love ritual menu.

New Beginning Exfoliating Mask, 1.69 oz - Retail Value $42.00

As much as I was looking forward to seeing human faces from the eyes down in 2021, it looks like we will all be waiting a wee bit longer! That means two things: masks as fashion and maskne. As someone who was essentially acne-free before 2020, I have learned more than a few tips and tricks to deal with my jawline spots over the last year. One of my favorites is a good clay mask. Sure, I have super dry skin, but I found that only using these masks on my jawline and chin (the two areas I spend at least an hour a day breathing heavily on) helps keep my zits away and not dry me out. I am extra excited to add this one to my routine because, in addition to rich yellow clay from Australia, it features turmeric, a wonderfully effective anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial addition to any well-rounded routine. This mask is on the thicker side, meaning I can also use it as a super easy-to-apply spot treatment. For this review I applied it to my whole jawline, creating a super flattering blonde beard look. It feels super cooling on the skin and also has a slight tightening effect as it dries. The clay draws out impurities, the turmeric calms redness, and my whole face looks better with the bottom half less bumpy. This was a real winner! Side note: the ingredient list on my pot differs from the ingredient list on the item's website. It looks like this might have been reformulated – I still loved it!

Wake Up Hydrating Mist, 1.69 fl oz - Retail Value $36.00

I know a lot of people aren't into mists... but I am not one of them! I can't get enough. I use them throughout the day, in facial massage, and even at night if I fall into bed and I feel too tired to put anything else on my face – a good mist has a lot of ingredients inside that your skin needs at night, so while this isn't ideal, at least I am doing something before bed, right? This bottle says you can mist it directly onto your face, but do me a favor and just don't. The nozzle on mine was more of a jet stream than a mist and it worked so much better to spray some into my palms and then pat it onto my face. This is on the thicker end of the toner spectrum, in my opinion. You really feel it on your skin! Inside the bottle is a mix of balancing witch hazel, hydrating aloe, and lots of other goodies, like hyaluronic acid and green tea extract. It does have a pretty strong citrus scent that I personally liked, but if you aren't into scents you might find it overpowering.

Smile Daily Eye Serum, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $64.00

I love an eye serum that contains caffeine because if I use it in the AM, it instantly helps my under eyes look less dull and more awake. I have been getting up extra early to work out, and honestly, I look a lot like a zombie. This eye serum has a really wonderful texture. It is a gel that feels gentle on the skin and is easy to tap onto that delicate area of your face. A little also goes a long way, so though this is a smaller bottle, it should last quite a while. In addition to that wonderful caffeine, this gel also brings a lot of antioxidants to a specific area of skin that is prone to premature aging and environmental changes. The other big benefit here is the dose of hyaluronic acid which is wonderful for keeping the skin around your eyes hydrated and firm.

Super Hyaluronic Serum, 1.01 fl oz - Retail Value $69.00

My last item is a hyaluronic acid serum. Hyaluronic acid is one of those amazing molecules that holds up to 1000 times it weight in water, meaning it is a moisture bomb for your skin and helps it feel firmer and look smoother. This little acidic miracle is combined inside this tube with antioxidants from plums and green tea to give your skin hydration and an anti-damage boost. I did find this stuff had a great texture for priming as stated in the name. It leaves skin feeling soft and calm and it absorbs enough to not disturb any makeup you might wear on top.

Verdict: See New Skincare Box is such a great example of how a skincare subscription should look when you want to try out a total line rather than a bunch of items from multiple lines. Of course, I do like to mix and match in my own routine (it is a necessary part of my job here as a whole!) but finding the strengths of each brand is always fun! I thought MetaPora was a great line for anyone looking for more gentle skincare formulas with a big focus on natural and botanical ingredients. If you're looking for help with noticeable lines and wrinkles or a severe acne problem, this probably isn't going to be the line to use alone to support those areas, but for anyone out there with more general skincare needs, this is an awesome line for maintaining and pampering your skin. And you can always supplement it with things like retinol and acids as needed. And with a value of $211 in this $44 box, it's a great way to try this line out without spending as much money as you would purchasing each piece individually.

To Wrap Up:

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.
