ArtSnacks Plus December 2020 Review

Shall we peek inside?

A very cute ArtSnacks sticker arrived. I always love these little pretzel pencil stickers!

As well as our little snack! A festive candycane.

Here is the menu for September. These are also the items that should arrive in the base box.

And here is the card showcasing what additional items arrived in our Plus box.

Graph’it Alcohol-Based Twin Tip Marker Brush & Fineliner in 'Coral' - Retail Value $5.29

FYI: You might receive a different color.

Before my art subscription boxes, I wasn't really a huge marker kind of gal, but I really enjoy them a lot now, especially when one arrives in such a pretty and vibrant color. This coral shade marker is double-ended too, meaning I can quickly sketch down bold brushstrokes or keep it detailed with the fineliner tip!

Yummy.

Kuretake-ZIG Clean Color f Double-Ended Marker in 'May Green' - Retail Value $2.30

FYI: You might receive a different color.

This green is making me want May to arrive sooner than ever! I miss fresh grass! This is a water-based ink that you can use alone or if you want to get really adventurous, you can add water to create interesting feathering and a watercolor look. It is also double-ended, with one thicker 1.2 mm tip and a smaller 0.5 mm option as well.

I am loving this very spring green.

Derwent Paint Pen in 'Scarlet' - Retail Value $5.19

Derwent Paint Pen in 'Mint Green' - Retail Value $5.19

FYI: You might receive different colors.

Paint pens aren't my favorite because I find them messy. This proved even more true with the mint pen, because in my enthusiasm to shake it enough to mix, I actually shook the pen tip out of the barrel, which created an extra messy surprise when I yanked the cap off. Oof! Other than this user error, these perform a lot like opaque markers and aren't "chunky" like so many paint pens can feel. I thought the two colors I received were lovely together!

Mint Green

Scarlet

Royal Talens Ecoline Brush Pen in 'Pastel Red' - Retail Value $4.25

Royal Talens Ecoline Brush Pen in 'Cold Grey' - Retail Value $4.25

FYI: You might receive different colors.

I had received a burgundy color of this exact pen before and absolutely loved it. This grey and pink will be wonderful additions to my stash! Why do I adore these pens? Because they are filled with watercolor paint that you can wet with a brush after drawing and it performs spectacularly! They are also stunning solo, so if you aren't as much of a watercolor enthusiast, you will still have a great time with these.

Pastel Red

Cold Grey

FYI: Items below will arrive in the PLUS box.

Kuretake ZIG Superior Line Cocoiro Letter Pen - Listed Value $22.14

This pen feels fancy! The ink bullet inside can be completely replaced too, so if you ever run out you don't have to bid farewell to this handsome and ergonomic writing tool. Mine arrived filled with black ink. The flexible nib allows for loads of different pressures making this pen as fun to write with as it is to sketch with!

Smooth and interesting.

9 x 12 Borden & Riley #234 Paris Paper for Pens Pad - Retail Value $17.80

Our surface this month is an incredibly smooth paper designed to work specifically with pens. Most of the paper in my stash is thicker and has loads of tooth, so getting a big pad of smooth paper feels special.

I decided to go a little fashion-illustration this month:

This isn't my normal style of work, but I will admit that I would totally wear this dress. (It has pockets.)

Verdict: ArtSnacks is always a box I am so excited to get my hands on! My obsession with pens, markers, paints, and pencils literally knows no bounds. Somehow, even month after month, this box continues to deliver things that excite me and make me feel eager to face a blank sheet of paper. I loved the color selection I received this month (colors are random, so sometimes it isn't this colorful!) and had a really fun time testing them out and sketching.

FYI, if you need help or inspiration, try the ArtSnacks online community, OR leave me a message and I will try to help or spark your imagination!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the January box if you subscribe.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $39 with free shipping, meaning each of the 6 items has an average cost of $6.50.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I love your fashion drawing so much!!! You have a real gift! I love seeing the progress photos too, I love seeing the different stages of art projects coming together. I could totally see myself deciding I need this subscription even though it’s really the last thing that I need. Lol.

Great job on the art! And I also am curious if that tiny candy was always the “snack”.
Seems like an odd name for the sub since that is far from anything I’d ever consider a snack in my house.

She turned out great! I loved the dress shading, plus the colorful zentangle art over the grey and white is a fun touch.

I’ve also wondered about the snacks part… did they start out putting actual snacks into the boxes, or was it always tiny candies?

I too read all the art subscriptions to see your art, but this one I was really impressed with! I do wish there was a bit more of snack in this box but I’m not the one actually receiving it. 😀

I love seeing what you create every month! Super bummed though, I thought shipping was included. Turns out for the Artsnacks Plus box they charge an additional $10 for shipping.
