Birchbox 'Winter Body Care' Kit Review
Here is the info sheet that arrived with the box.
This Works stress check breathe in, 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $16.88 (buy the 8 ml version for $27)
I really enjoy the This Works brand – they nail their aromatherapy items and I always feel more relaxed when using them. This rollerball is made with eucalyptus, frankincense, and lavender oil, and it is designed to help relieve feelings of tension and stress. I like applying this to the pulse points on my wrist and breathing deep, and I am almost always left with a calmer mind.
Juara Hydrating Candlenut Shower Gel, 2 oz – Estimated Value $4.67 (buy the 12 oz version for $28)
I know the Juara Candlenut scent is loved by many an MSA reader due to other products from the line being featured in other subscription boxes, and this shower gel has the same great scent of candlenut and coconut. This formula is sulfate-free, and the gel texture turned into a gentle foam that didn’t leave my skin feeling dry or tight.
ILLUME Go Be Lovely Hand Cream in Coconut Milk Mango, 1.4 oz – Retail Value $10
I can never have too many hand creams, and I also can never have too many coconut-scented body products. What can I say, I like what I like and I have a penchant for losing things. This has a very tropical scent of coconut, mango, and pineapple, and the formula has a mix of coconut, jojoba, and avocado oils along with coconut and mango butter for a deeply hydrating hand cream. This soaked into my skin without leaving a greasy residue, and I enjoy the tropical fragrance.
AMASS Four Thieves Hand Sanitizer, 2 oz – Estimated Value $10 (buy a set of 2 2oz bottles for $20)
This is a wildly fragrant hand sanitizer that I have been enjoying. The scent includes eucalyptus, cinnamon, and clove for a warm scent that isn’t too heavy. The formula is 70% alcohol, and this spray bottle will spritz your hands clean about 500 times.
EiR NYC Savasana Body Oil, 1 oz – Estimated Value $5.63 (buy the 8-ounce version for $45)
I am a big fan of body oils. I like how they give my skin a soft sheen and leaves it feeling silky. My skin (especially in the wintertime!) is always dry, so the added moisture a body oil provides is much appreciated. With a name like "Savasana", I expected this to smell like a yoga studio, and I was not disappointed. The scent comes from vetiver, ylang-ylang, and lavender, while the arnica, jojoba, vitamin E, and coconut oil work to soothe and nourish the skin. This was lovely on warm skin after a shower, and I think it would also be great to gently soothe sore muscles.
Hatshe Tangerine Relief Gel, 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $4.25 (buy the 1-ounce version for $25)
This sample was really enjoyable – along with the small tube having 30 mg full-spectrum hemp oil, it is also made with menthol, arnica, capsicum, and camphor. The tangerine essential oil adds a nice citrus scent, and this definitely provided relief to sore shoulder muscles.
Old Whaling Co. Body Butter in Oatmeal Milk & Honey, 2 oz – Estimated Value $3.50 (buy the 8-ounce version for $14)
I find the milk and honey scent of this body butter to be incredibly comforting. I have been massaging this body butter into my boyfriend's shoulders lately, and even though I'm not the one getting rubbed I still feel more relaxed. This body butter starts off thick, but it melts into the skin to leave it moisturized and soft without a greasy residue.
Foy CBD Relief Lotion, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $8.08 (buy the 3.4 oz version for $54.99)
This lotion has a really nice ingredients list that features broad-spectrum hemp extract, hemp seed oil, menthol, shea butter, aloe vera, peppermint, lavender, and frankincense. It has a thicker texture compared to the Hatshe CBD gel, but it still soaks into my skin nicely. This half-ounce tube contains 120 mg of CBD, so it is a bit more potent than the Hatshe gel, too.
Verdict: I am a big fan of CBD-infused skincare, so right off of the bat I was happy this set included multiple CBD products for me to try. This really covered all of the categories for winter body care: hand lotion, body lotion, shower gel, and hand sanitizer. All of the products performed well for me, too, which makes me really happy with the overall curation of this set. Value-wise, everything in this kit adds up to $63.01, which is about $10 shy of the promised $73 value.
