The Fortune Cookie Soap Box is a monthly subscription that offers bath and body products centered on a new theme each month. FCS will create new products to fit that theme, and then will offer up the extended collection for sale later in the month.

Every box comes packaged with a themed sticker that always makes me smile.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Fortune Cookie Soap “Into The Unknown” December 2020 Review

Here is the info sheet for this month's box.

FCS The Dark Sea Wax Tart

I don’t have a wax melter (although I keep all of my wax melts in case I remember to actually buy one), but I love the way this smells. The scent is described as fresh citrus and cantaloupe misted with sea salt air and magical waters, and the citrus and sea salt notes really make this more unique than your average fragrance.

FCS Connected by Love OCD Hand Sanitizer

Once Covid turned all of our worlds upside down, FCS went into overdrive producing hand sanitizer- I think one has been in every monthly box since April. This has a fragrance mix of plums, golden amber, and creamy musk, and I don’t think any of us will say no to more hand sanitizer in our lives. If you’re wondering why their hand sanitizer is named OCD, you can read more about it here.

FCS Flurrying Shimmer Gel

I would love to tell you more about this shimmer gel that is described as smelling like green apples and d’anjou pears (and warm hugs), however the lid on this tiny jar was screwed on so tight that I couldn’t get it off. “Well Jessica, ask your buff strong boyfriend to get it off,” you all must be thinking. I did. He couldn’t get it off either. C’est la vie.

FCS My True North Bath Bomb

I will happily take all of the bath bombs- even these cute little petite ones that would probably be better for a foot soak than a full bath. Look at that cute heart shape! This had a comforting scent blend of vanilla, warm milk, and sugar crystals mixed with oak-aged bourbon, and while I loved it in my bathwater I think it would be fantastic if this was made into a candle. I have no idea if that’s an option, but a girl can dream.

FCS I Am Found Whipped Cream

The whipped cream lotion formula from FCS is one of my favorites- it is creamy and moisturizing without being so heavy it’s greasy. This had a lighter scent of winter air, fluffy snow, sparkling ice, and white woofs, and I used this sample up quickly.

FCS Water Has Memory Dual-Phase Perfume

This perfume features and oil-in-water that makes it especially lovely to look at in the bottle. The scent is a mix of pineapple and spiced honey with pumpkin and peppermint, and it definitely gives off strong winter vibes without being overly gourmand.

The Verdict: I love me some Disney, so this Frozen-themed box was fun to experience. If I had one critique, it will be that I wish this had fewer tiny products and one full-size product that isn't a perfume oil. Minis are cute, but sometimes I feel like I’m overrun with tiny packaged beauty products that have been used once and then only have a few more uses remaining. That being said, this box always nails it on the creative scents and packaging, and this really is a fun and affordable subscription box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No, and this subscription is currently waitlisted. You can join the waitlist here. From Fortune Cookie Soap:

Value Breakdown: This box costs $16.95 + free shipping, which means you are paying about $2.83 per item.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I just threw away a bottle of ranch dressing last night, because I couldn’t get the freaking lid off.

For the shimmer gel try banging the handle of a butter knife around the edge of the lid right on the angle all the way around. Usually when I can’t open a top like that it helps to loosen it.

The original has one to two full sized I believe it was 24.95.

This is my favorite subscription by far. Sometimes the scents are not what I would want, but the small sizes are nice for that reason, I don’t have to feel bad about not using a full size and I love the coupons! It’s nice to smell everything too so I know what full sizes I want. I got my shimmer to open too, it was my favorite scent of the box. Jan box rocks too! I really love those smells. And so excited for Brave box!

Lol! I am cracking up 😂 at everyone saying January was the best because I canceled after the December box! Dang it! I will say that the wax tart from this month blew me away and I used my discount code to order a full size of the tarts along with a full size bath oil, linen spray, and the little air freshener bottle you can hang anywhere (mine’s in the car) in the scent as the wax tart.

I was fortunate enough to get the shimmer gel sample open. The shimmer gel was pretty and smelled nice. As I have nowhere to go because of the virus, it just wasn’t A product I would buy in a full size right now. I am loving that perfume oil. I don’t use tarts so I gave that to a friend who does. I used the bomb in a foot bath for a pedicure. I liked the whipped cream a lot and the hand sanitizer is really great. It was a good box and the scents were lovely.

Not trying to be snarky, but wondering what white woofs is (from the whipped cream). Is it supposed to be white woods?

I thought at first it was precious dog smell? 😆But I think I solved the puzzle with “ white roofs”.

I couldn’t open my shimmer gel either. I think it was packaged by the Hulk! I ended up canceling after this one though I have already received the Jan. one which is actually my favorite of the 3 months that I got.

Same! I almost cancelled after this one, but January’s box was really great! Glad I stayed for it.

I got mine open. It was a struggle. I said to my self all this glitter would look great on and around my eyes. Dumb me did not know how my skin would react to. It burned my skin all around my eyes. It took a bit to get the area to calm down.

Does anyone know how to find out the scents of next months box without Facebook? I can see the theme but the scents are on FB which I don’t have.

Caligirl

There are two Facebook group’s. FCS vip and FCS underground. I think they post scents descriptions in the underground group.

Jackie

They post them on their website. February is “Change Your Fate” – which would be Brave. They have a monthly calendar on their website too.

Jody

Sadly I haven’t figured that out. I never know anything but the theme. I waste more money on this sub. because of that.

I kinda miss their old subscription model

Snow

What was that? Fairly new subscriber (been receiving for a few months,) and I have to say the sizes are incredibly small.

Snow, the original used to be quarterly for $19.99. FCS would release a seasonal collection and you’d receive 8 sample sizes in your box to sample the 8 scents in the collection before the launch each season. It would usually always contain a FCS soap and OCD hand sanitizer which is technically full size but small. You’d also receive a $10 coupon code that didn’t have a minimum purchase to use. I received it for several years and canceled when they began the full size monthly boxes.

Indigo

I also agree about the coupon. That was part of the reason why I ended up cancelling. Also, every time I did tried to use the coupon the products I wanted to get were out of stock. So it’s like what’s the point?

Anita F

I have to agree the $10 does not really add much value to the subscription. After shipping it’s about $2 off. I like the box but I wouldn’t add the coupon to the value. At least for me.

Caligirl

The original has one to two full sized I believe it was 24.95.

Aarjullor

I find the coupon pretty useless with shipping being $7.95

Jackie

So, their original sub model was what they have now. For about a year or so, they switched to a more expensive sub box with all full-sized items. People complained about that one because they felt they had too much products to get through. So they went back to the smaller sizes with the coupons – so you can buy something from the website if you like it.

I never understand why the review doesn’t mention the $10 coupon, because it makes a difference in the valuation IMO.
