bareMinerals Mineralist Lipstick in 'Honesty', 0.06 oz – Estimated Value $10.00 (Buy a full-size 0.12 oz for $20.00)
I really love getting lipstick in boxes. Do I need more? Nope. Did I wear much in 2020? Eh, no. But they make me happy and when I have a bold lip on I just feel more like myself! Hopefully, this will be a big lipstick year? Anyway, I love this pink shade. It's a nice cool shade that still has a richness to it and I think this is going to look great on anyone. The finish is lightweight but pigmented and it is very smooth. The only complaint I have is about the scent of this formula, but it isn't really anything that would stop me from wearing this beauty.
This is a spring pink!
And I like it on a lot.
Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask, 14 mL - Estimated Value $5.13 (Buy a full-size 150 mL for $55.00)
This addition feels delightfully summery, and since I can't wait for warmer weather, I am feeling it. The ingredient list here is a good one: aloe, cucumber, pineapple extract, chamomille, and more! This isn't heavy enough for me to use in the winter months, but in the summer I just adore how cooling and soothing this green goo is. This is the perfect size for my purse so I can keep it on hand and apply it after some sunshine. It gives my skin a great level of hydration while being weightless. And it helps me lose that pesky redness that haunts me in the sunshine months.
Grande Cosmetics GrandeLIPS Plumping Liquid Lipstick Metallic Semi-Matte in 'Sparkling Sangria', size unknown (Buy a full-size 4 g for $25.00)
FYI: This is our substitute item! According to the book, the original item should have been a Grande Cosmetics Stay Put Lip Liner.
I am not a big lip liner fan, so I was totally fine with this substitution. This formula is pretty cool too! It is a plumping formula so it does have a little tingle to it, and it did make my lips feel plumper. The finish looked matte but never got super dry and it has this really cool metallic effect. I really liked this.
This shade feels a little more wintery.
I really like it on!
Kiehl's Calendula Petal-Infused Calming Mask, 14 mL - Estimated Value $6.30 (Buy a full-size 100 mL for $45.00)
This is a lightweight mask with little calendula petals inside. It is meant to give your skin a quick moisture boost in just 5 minutes. The big ingredients inside are aloe, calming Calendula extract, vitamin E, and other goodies. I tried this out by applying a thin layer to my clean face. I massaged it in circular motions with a special emphasis on my hairline since it has been super dry and gross lately. I waited the recommended 5 minutes then gently removed it with a warm wet towel. The whole experience was really nice! Though I am always going to need more and more hydration, this mask did a nice job of boosting my skin and making it feel smooth. There are some citrus oils in here that might turn some people off, but I found the mask itself really didn't smell like much of anything!
Shiseido Essential Energy Moisturizing Gel Cream, 0.35 oz - Estimated Value $9.88 (Buy a full-size 1.7 fl oz for $48.00)
I didn't love this stuff. I honestly just need more than a gel moisturizer on most days which wouldn't have been an automatic disqualifier for me, but this one also has my nemesis: alcohol denat. My dry skin just can't do it. This is going to be a much better choice for someone who has oilier skin or who doesn't mind alcohol in their skincare. It does have good stuff too, in fact, I was excited to see both caffeine and hyaluronic acid inside, but this just wasn't a product for me.
Viva La Juicy Le Bubbly Eau De Parfum, 0.05 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.46 (Buy 3.4 fl oz for $99.00)
This perfume smells literally exactly like you think it will: it is girly, fruity, and super young. The top notes are sharper and citrusy, but also kind of almondy? It then turns into a fruit plate with a side of sweet champagne. While this isn't my sort of scent at all, it certainly makes me think of carefree summer days in the beach house I don't own.
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau De Toilette, 0.05 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.58 (Buy 3.3 fl oz for $104.00)
Light Blue is a classic and a scent I have always loved but never purchased. This is the men's version of this cult-fave, which certainly should never stop anyone from wearing it, even if you aren't a guy. It is light and clean, with bright notes of juniper and citrus. It also packs some sexy incense and wood notes that I am digging and those give it a depth that compliments the tart citrus really beautifully.
Travel Bottle Set
This is probably a leftover from Macy's undelivered bags, and I can't fault them for that. And aren't we all hoping to need travel bottles soon? This little set is geared towards someone with a multi-step skincare routine (Hi, my name is Megan!). My fave inclusion is that little scoop! That is ideal for a kit like this and for a traveler who refuses to waste product.
Verdict: This Macy’s Beauty Box has an estimated value of $34.35 without the value of the Grande lip color (I have no clue what size the sample is!) and the travel bottles. It felt like a good value for a $15 bag to me. Sure, we had a substitution, which honestly isn't that uncommon with this subscription. But I love lip products so I am fine with that. And the travel set felt a little weird right now, but that is no fault of Macy's and I really like the set. All in all, I was satisfied with my first box back from this sub that we all thought was gone forever.
