LUXSB is a fragrance subscription box for men and women (formerly known as Luxury Scent Box). Each month you will receive 9 mL (about 0.3 fl oz) of a designer fragrance. You can accept the fragrance of the month, you can choose scents based on a short profile survey, or you can just build a calendar of scents on your own.
There are two subscription options:
- The Standard Plan for $15.00 per month and includes one 9 mL travel spray
- The Premium Plan for $18.00 per month and includes one 9 mL travel spray and access to premium items
LUXSB also gives active members the option to upgrade their subscription to the Duo plan, which includes one case and two premium or non-premium perfumes per month.
This is a review of the standard plan for $15/month + free shipping.
NOTE: You’ll notice this is the December review. LuxSB shipped this on December 10 and I did not receive it until February. There was at least a 5-6 week period where it stopped having any USPS tracking updates at all, during the busy holiday shipping season and due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At any rate, LuxSB shipped on time and I reviewed quickly after I received it, and neither of us is responsible for the lateness of the review. Although perhaps they should not have sent this media mail, since the contents do not qualify for media mail…
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

LUXSB December 2020 Review
There were some instructions for using the holder.
And a note that you can now get add-ons for your subscription.
The fragrances come with a little velour bag if you want to protect the vials in your purse.
On to the fragrance:
Piano Santal by L’Orchestre Parfum (9 mL) – Estimated Value $15.18 (buy 100 mL for 140€)
First off, I had never heard of this perfumer before, and I always find it exciting to discover a new perfumer. Second, it is not clear how easy it is to find this brand in the U.S. and, although I found it available from the perfumer’s website in France, I’m not sure how easy it is to get delivered to the U.S. (There are some listings on eBay but I don’t know if I trust fragrance listings from eBay to be legitimate.) However, LuxSB now offers the option of purchasing full-size fragrances through their site with a membership discount. So, if you love it or the brand intrigues you, that is probably the best way to get more from a U.S.-based source!
Moving on to the fragrance itself, the name was immediately intriguing. It wasn’t so much the “piano” for me as the “santal,” which is French for “sandalwood,” which is one of my all-time favorite fragrance notes. And this did not disappoint.
Other notes include milk, skin (?), cashmeran, white musk, ambroxan, cedar, cumin, and bergamot. I’m honestly kind of glad it doesn’t smell too much like cumin on me, and the bergamot is not super noticeable either. I don’t think I’ve tried a fragrance that’s supposed to smell like skin before so I don’t know if I’d really pick that out. I like the milky, musky, woody combination here and I find that, although there’s a little something unusual right when you apply this (maybe the bergamot in combination with some other note?), it dries down to something I absolutely love and stays pretty true to that for hours and hours afterwards.
Other things of interest: the alcohol in this perfume is derived from beets and this is a cruelty-free brand.
Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $15.18. I was really happy with this month’s scent. This is the one fragrance subscription where I’m usually happy with the scent of the month, and if you like niche fragrances that are often unisex, more woody, and less “clean” or floral, you will probably enjoy their selections, too (or make a queue of your own choices). Value-wise, you’re coming in a little under the month-to-month cost of the subscription (because I’m pretty sure this fragrance is one of the ones with a premium upcharge). However, you get a discount on full-size purchases, and I don’t know of any other way to sample fragrances from this perfumer, at least for now, so there is an exclusivity aspect as well.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.
Value Breakdown: This subscription is $15/monthly and this month, I received $15.18 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent you choose).
