Velvet Hair Scrunchie Created For Macy's
I am so into scrunchies, all over again! This color is really pretty and will match with a lot of my clothes. Velvet is probably one of my favorite fabrics and is great for winter. It is also a great fabric to use in your hair at night because it won't crease your hair if you put it in a low ponytail. My daughter wears her hair half up and was really into this scrunchie as well. So I think we are going to share it!
Sutra Beauty Mini Ceramic Flat Iron - Estimated Value $34.00 (buy a full-size iron for $80.00)
This mini flat iron from Sutra Beauty was created for Macy's. It is made with pure ceramic plates to help protect your hair from damage and it has a fast heat-up time as well. This is perfect to take with your for a weekend away or to slip into your carry-on bag for a longer trip. I haven't used a flat iron on my hair in many years, but I know this is something that I would have loved to take with me on trips back when I did rock straight hair. I am going to pass this along to my Mom who uses a flat iron and also travels more than I do.
Verb Ghost Oil, 0.57 fl oz. - Estimated Value $5.14 (Buy a full-size 2 fl oz. for $18.00)
Oils like this really help shape my curls and keep frizz away. My husband uses hair oils like this as well to keep his ends tamed and frizz-free. This oil has worked really well for both of us! It is super light-weight, but I would say a little goes a long way. It doesn't have a strong scent, which I really like, but it is infused with moringa oil and bamboo extract. The oil works to smooth and strengthen your hair while helping it to retain moisture.
Klorane Dry Shampoo, 50 mL - Estimated Value $5.80 (Buy a full-size 250 mL for $29.00)
I have really thick curly hair so even though I don't wash it every day, it rarely looks greasy. That being said, I don't really need dry shampoo, but it is a product that my husband likes to use between washes (the longer he can go between washes the better for him). I will say that this came out really hard in the bottle so be sure to spray ten inches from your roots. This blend is made with corn and rice starches to cleanse, and organically harvested oat milk to soothe and protect both your hair and scalp. This shampoo is also meant to help add texture and volume. The site says that it is great for all hair types including darker hair. My husband used this and said it worked well at absorbing excess oil and lifting his roots a bit where it would normally look matted down for not washing. It also did not leave any white chalk residue behind which is a huge win!
Dry Bar Southern Belle Volume-Boosting Root Lifter, 0.7 oz - Estimated Value $2.36 (Buy a full-size 7.7 oz for $26.00)
This is another product that I probably won't get a lot of use out of just based on my hair texture. I don't really need to add volume at my root just because I have pretty thick curls. This product is really great to use before blowing dry to create lift, fullness from the follicle, and volume. You just want to apply this to damp hair, massage into your roots until the white foam full soaks in, and then blow-dry or style as usual. I have to say that this lifter smells incredible and it was a scent that really lingered! It is made with violet, sandalwood, and musk some of my favorite scents. I honestly wish this product worked for me just because I want my hair to smell like this every day. I am going to pass this along to my Mom who typically uses a root lift before styling.
Michael Kors NEW! Gorgeous, 0.05 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.76 (Buy 3.4 fl oz for $120.00)
Wow, I love this perfume! Receiving perfume samples is so much fun because you can really test and enjoy a fabulous scent like this one without spending the big money first. It is floral without being overpowering because it is mixed with a more masculine layer. The second fragrance note is tobacco accord and the third is woods. So it is that incredible blend of femininity and masculinity that is both fresh and earthy. This is my kind of perfume and I am so happy I got to try it!
Rahua Classic Conditioner, 22 mL - Estimated Value $2.88 (Buy 275 mL for $36.00)
Rahua Classic Shampoo, 22 mL - Estimated Value $2.72 (Buy 275 mL for $30.00)
I am super picky about my shampoo and conditioner, I need a really good lather since I don't wash my hair every day, but I also need a conditioner that is extremely hydrating. Based on what I read about this product, I thought it could work for me, but I can't say that I got the full experience because the sample sizes were hardly enough product to wash and conditioner my hair with (my hair is very long and requires a lot of product). The shampoo is more of an oil base so I did not get a very good lather from it, leaving my hair still feeling a tad greasy. It smelled incredible though with a deep woody scent. The shampoo is made with Rahua oil from the Amazon and works to strengthen your hair, keep your scalp healthy, and keep your hair silky smooth. The conditioner also smelled amazing with an almost minty fresh scent. I could tell that this would work nicely on my hair, but again I didn't have enough of it to really be able to judge. The conditioner is also made with Rahua oil to hydrate, detangle, and leave your hair frizz-free.
Verdict: This was my first Macy’s Beauty Box! I always have trouble with hair products in boxes only because I am so picky about what I use on my hair. My hair is very thick, curly, and very long so I need a specific product to be able to get a brush through it. I also have a pretty low maintenance styling routine with just wash, towel dry, and a quick fluff with oil and hairspray. That being said, I don't always have a need for more styling based products. While this box wasn't filled with products that I can use every day, I really appreciated the overall curation. You could see and feel the thoughtfulness that went into selecting the products this month to focus fully on your hair. The mini flat iron is such an amazing product to receive in a box and is something that I would have loved back in my straight hair days. I was able to gift this to my Mom though who was really excited about it! The hair oil and the scrunchie are the two items that I will get a lot of use out of. The shampoo and conditioner weren't my favorites, but again it just didn't work as well with my hair texture. My husband has tried this brand before and loves it! The other hair products I was also able to pass along to my Mom who really appreciated the new products to test. This month's box has an estimated value of $54.66 which is an incredible value! While my first box didn't blow me out of the water, that was really no fault of the products or curation, it just all didn't match with my hair texture. I am really excited to see what next month has to offer though as I can totally see that quality and curation is what this box is all about!
