While I really loved their first summer box, I found the fall box to be a bit lacking, so I was curious to see how this winter installment would go. Let's find out!
We received this mini-magazine with all of the information about our box inside. Each page tells us all about the designer and then gives a brief description and the retail value of our items. On the back, it lists some member perks which includes a 20% off code for anything in their shop!
Simple Face Mask by Mercado Global in Peacock Blue - Listed Value $13.00
Our first item is one that I have mixed feelings about. When it comes to quarterly boxes, I really look forward to something special and escaping reality just a bit and face masks almost feel like more of a reminder of difficult times to me at this point. That being said, it certainly is a useful item, and with this being a fashion-based box, I could see how they wouldn't want to ignore the opportunity to provide something stylish for their customers. The mask itself is really lovely, it is beautiful and well-made with two cotton layers (although protection-wise, there are quite a few air gaps). I also love that it is handmade and supports indigenous women in Guatemala. I appreciated that our booklet highlights Mercado's mission and impact, too.
Here it is on. I love the colors and pattern, and even with my larger-than-average-sized head, it seems to fit well.
Pearl and Metal Disc Layered Necklace by Zaxie - Retail Value $22.00
This necklace is so pretty and it's definitely something that I would pick for myself! I love gold jewelry and pearls, and the double layer with the metal disc makes this a unique necklace too. This is a 16-inch necklace that can extend up to 18 inches, and it features an acrylic pearl and gold plating. While I really love this necklace, the chain is incredibly delicate and it gets tangled very which is kind of frustrating. While the name sounds familiar, I don't think I've ever heard of this brand before, but I thought it was definitely interesting to learn that this company began as a small family business that designed tiaras for Miss America.
Here it is worn longer and shorter. So pretty!
Moroccan Rose Nourishing Hand Cream by Dr. Botanicals - Retail Value $29.99
Hand cream is a welcome addition to any box for me this time of year! This is a brand I am familiar with, although it was nice to learn a bit more about them through the booklet. They specialize in natural beauty and their products are ethically sourced and vegan friendly. This specific formula contains rose flower water, coconut oil, and Tiare flower extract. It smells rich and luxurious with a light cottony rose scent, and it's one of those scents that I can't stop smelling! It absorbs nicely and my hands feel much softer after using it. Plus, the tube is just so pretty which is a nice bonus. It looks like this scent is sold out, but they have some other scents that sound equally beautiful!
Snow Moon Clutch by Meraki Wayuu - Retail Value $45.00
This little clutch is gorgeous and so unique! I love that it is handwoven by artisans from the Wayuu tribe in Colombia. This is a smaller clutch with no inner pockets, but it does have a cute tassel on one side. It's kind of funky looking how it is attached, but I actually love that it isn't attached to the zipper because I feel like tassels as pulls never hold up as well. My bag looks a little different than the one pictured online; it has a liner, and I want to say that this doesn't open up as wide as the one pictured, but that could just be the way it looks in photos. This small clutch is about 11.5 long and just over 5.5 inches tall. Just enough to hold the essentials!
Lip Balm Hair Scrunchie - Listed Value $4.00
Blood Orange Red Tinted Lip Balm by Moroccan Magic - Listed Value $7.00 (Buy a 2 pack for $14.00)
This next item is something that is so simple, but the innovation is what makes it a standout item. This soft velvet gray scrunchie is a perfect scrunchie on its own, but it has a hidden zipper that opens up to hide your chapstick inside. How cool is that? Inside it came with a lip balm brand I am already familiar with, but with a new twist. This blood orange flavor has a subtle tint to it and it has a great subtle orange flavor to match. This formula contains organic ingredients like argan and coconut oils, calendula extract, and beeswax and it felt duper hydrating on my dry lips.
It's a little orangey on me, but I think in the summer once I have a bit of color to my skin, it will be the perfect lip balm to apply, and conveniently I won't even need to bring a bag to keep it in!
The following item only comes in the Style Box and not the Accessory Box:
Say Anything Sweater by Jack by BB Dakota - Listed Value $85.00
Our clothing item is this pretty black sweater with a nice cable knit design on the front. It has a large cowl neck, and it is cropped and oversized. Even though it is oversized, I still was not able to model this sweater because I was accidentally sent a small instead of a large. We reached out to customer service, and they assured us that a customer would be sent the correct size immediately. While I could get this sweater on, it was MUCH more of a crop on me than I was comfortable with, so I passed it along to a friend who I know will enjoy it. I do love the look of the sweater- it is very on-trend and it would probably look great with some high-waisted jeans and booties. The quality is decent, being 80% acrylic and 20% wool, and while it seems a tad overpriced to me, it does seem to be on par with other sweaters from this brand.
Verdict: I thought that My Fashion Crate did a nice job of highlighting some talented artisans with a focus on unique fashions and then balanced it out with brands that were somewhat familiar. The items I loved most in this box were the half-moon bag and the scrunchie, but really it had a nice somewhat cohesive feel throughout. Had the sweater been my size, I'm sure it would have been a great top to throw on with jeans for a comfortable but still stylish outfit. The mask has proved useful, the lotion is nice and while I love the necklace style, the way it gets tangled up is probably going to keep me from wearing it as often as I'd like to. Overall, the total retail value of our items (using a mix of listed and found retail values) comes to $206.00, which sounds pretty good! So did I enjoy the items in this box? Yes. Did I feel like this was a $92.95 ($85 + $7.95)? Not quite. Objectively, the value was there and this was certainly a step-up from the fall box, but still not quite on par with their summer box. I guess we will have to see what spring brings! What do you think?
