Bespoke Post "Downpour" Review

The box comes with a card to let you know what's in the box. On the back is a note from the raincoat. Real cute.

Line of Trade The Portland Rain Jacket - Retail Value $100.00

I chose "Downpour" this month because I was in need of a nice raincoat that fits my body. My current raincoat was a large hand-me-down from a friend, and more for hiking or other activities. I wanted a nice, stylish coat so that I look good when I have to run out to my car in the pouring rain because my daughter can't sleep without her stuffed pink unicorn. So I jumped at the opportunity to receive The Portland Rain Jacket by Line of Trade, which I believe is just Bespoke Post's own clothing line. It can be purchased in three colors: Night, Storm, and Clay. Mine is Night. Sizes range from small to XXL. For whatever it's worth, I'm 5'9" and am wearing the medium fit, which fits me exactly like I hoped.

The fabric is a triple-layered: DWR (durable water repellent)-coated cotton exterior bonded with a breathable waterproof membrane mid-layer and performance tricot on the inside. The whole thing is 5K waterproof (meaning it can take on 5,000mm of water pressure), which is really impressive because my TV is only 4K. If that wasn't enough, there are several great features meant to keep you dry. The duckbilled hood has an elastic draw string, as does the waist. I was actually surprised the hood fit my large head. I was certain it wouldn't. There is a snap-button storm flap over the zipper for extra protection. The cuffs are adjustable with Velcro, as is the back of the hood. There are also taped critical seams at the neck and shoulders to further ensure that no moisture gets inside. Lastly, a scooped tail to give extra coverage. While I haven't had the chance to try it out, I am eager for the next rainfall so I can go outside.

In addition to the waterproof features, there are large pockets, which snap shut. The pocket linings almost create additional pockets inside the jacket. They could be used as a last resort if you needed to keep something dry, but I wouldn't trust it as a true inside pocket. To clean the item, just machine wash cold and hang dry away from direct heat and sunlight. As always with waterproof items, avoid fabric softener, bleach, and also enzyme detergents.

I'm beyond happy with the look. I wanted something more mature than the ultra-light rain coats I use for hiking. Some I can wear out on the town, going to movies, or maybe a barbecue on a rainy day – whenever that may happen again. With Spring well on its way, I'm very happy with The Portland Rain Jacket. I am excited to try it out next time my kids want to play in the rain and I want to stay dry.

Interesting note: Here is the same exact coat Bespoke Post used to sell for $85.00. It's currently "sold out" at that price. The only difference at all I can find is the word "the" in the name. Just found it interesting the addition of "the" increased the value $15.00.

Verdict: Bespoke Post offers many options each month and it would be easy to get analysis paralysis stressing over which item(s) to receive. There are so many good choices. For me, "Downpour" was an easy and sound pick. I wanted a nice, mature rain jacket and that's exactly what it is. I like the look, the fit, and the color. Bespoke Post lists this coat at $100.00, which is twice the cost of the subscription with shipping. So it's a good deal as well. While I enjoy the surprise of other subscription boxes, there is something very nice about getting to pick exactly what you want. Bespoke Post has something for everyone, and so far everything has been of excellent quality. I eagerly await the beginning of each month so I can see what is new that month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes. As long as supplies last. Or you can pick from one of several rotating boxes.

My 25 year old son chose the weekender bag this month, loved it. I added on a $30 metal desk organizer for myself, he now wants one. It’s really nice, has a spot for a phone, watch, bottom is non skid.

This box is a hit, he’s actively searching for other things on the site, and loved the sweatpants and shirt from last month.

I agree with everything you said. I, too, really wanted the Weekender, but it had already been reviewed. Thanks for commenting.

I’ll add my name to the list of readers who always enjoy Carlos’ honest, funny, and informative reviews. I love Bespoke Post, but I wish that they would offer clothing items like this in women’s sizes. I know they market themselves as a men’s box, but I think a lot of us view them as suitable for all genders, and it seems that they could increase their customer base by embracing that. (To be clear, I’m not opposed to buying clothing items just because they’re designed for or marketed toward men, it’s just that I’m pretty petite, and even the smallest size is simply too large for me.)

Yeah, I’m not sure why they couldn’t have at least SOME women’s clothing, but there are many boxes that can be enjoyed by everyone. I believe they even had a “Valentine’s Day for Her” category last month. Mostly towels, self care products, and candles. Thanks for commenting.

Carlos, as a female subscriber to Bespoke Post I am very happy to see your reviews. I initially subscribed to get Altimeter as a gift for my Father. It arrived damaged and Bespoke’s response and replacement made me a customer for life! Double stamp-it bonus point for your great sense of humor. This one is going on my list right next to Puffed. I will most likely splurge and add one of these to my next couple of shipments, but seriously, the hammock next month……….

The Altimeter looks awesome. I’d get Puffed if I already didn’t have a dozen jackets. And a hammock is a must, in my opinion. I already have one of those as well. I’m seriously considering Trip, Grip, Gale, or Whet. Depended on what’s new. Thanks for commenting.

I am so excited to see you review this box. This is the option I chose last month for EXACTLY the same reasons! I went with the color “STORM” (gray) and it is really good looking. I will mention that I followed their instructions to a T on sizing which were to measure a current coat that fits me well and compare the measurements to their size chart in order to decide which size to order. It told me to go with a medium. I ordered a medium and while it technically fits, I would really prefer a little more room so I am giving this one to my (way more in shape than me) husband and ordering a large for myself. I will go with the blue coat this time so my husband and I won’t match! I was really blown away by all the features on this coat. I loved the Velcro at the wrists and the hood especially. It is just a very sleek and stylish coat in my opinion and another quality choice from Bespoke Post.

I also wanted to mention that I pulled the same move above with the “COZY” box. It is the most awesome pair of slippers. I ordered them for my husband in his size in gray and then he was never able to use them because I was always stealing them. They are amazing so I ordered myself a pair in my size in navy. I wear them from the minute I wake up until I leave for work and put them back on the minute I walk in the door from the office. I cannot recommend them enough. Megan did a review of them not too long ago.

I thought it was great that you mentioned them selling the coat at a different time under a slightly different name for $85. I have noticed they do this fairly often. For instance, I was able to get the awesome FLIKR personal fireplace for my husband for Christmas from Bespoke Post as a monthly $45 box called “Flame” while it was also available in the shop under the name FLIKR (the exact same product) for- you guessed it-$85! I have seen this with a few products so I would suggest to people if they find something they love being sold in the store it might be worth a shot to search for it as a box.

Finally, I just want to say it is very nice to read your reviews of this box every month. I originally signed up for this box as a gift for my husband in a feeble attempt to get him on board with my dozen or so other subscriptions and it failed miserably. Since you have started reviewing it has helped my case a lot! The awesome stuff he is receiving is also great of course and if I could stop double ordering everything as a his and her set it would probably help as well. LOL Anyway, just wanted to tell you that your reviews are very much enjoyed and appreciated.

I ordered the Cozy box in February. Got the slippers on Feb 11 and have been wearing them non-stop since then. The slippers are fabulous but the insoles are almost worn through at the heels already. Granted I do mean non- stop and my heels are rough. The Baabuk company does sell insoles separately for $10 (+ shipping) but they are completely out of most sizes.

I was actually really excited about Cozy, but couldn’t choose it because it has already been reviewed. In fact, I could say that about a lot of Bespoke boxes. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you for the thorough and thoughtful review. You would do well reviewing for MSA. Everything you said rings true. Glad we were on the same page for everything. What should we get next month? Thanks for the kind words. Comment anytime.

Carlos, you crack me up….4K, unicorn run…smh.
It’s nice to see the close-up shots of the jacket. I thought about this jacket for my YA son but then thought $50 was pricy since they sell rain jackets at Costco for half that. Now I can see the difference. Nice jacket. If I don’t see anything I “must” have in April I’ll go for this one.

Obviously, I recommend it, but I know there are a lot of good boxes to choose. Since it’s their own brand, I would guess that will have it for a long time to come. So save it for a rainy day. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for the great review.

After you get to wear it I’d love to know how it works out. My husband had a great looking one but when he wears it in the rain it gets hot and gross.

If your wife is game, I’d like to know how these fit women, I always think of getting for me too but it’s so hard to tell if will fit.

Same BG, same. I love Bespoke Post for myself! lol I have ordered two robes that are simply fantastic, but just don’t quite fit right. Not that I would give either of them up!
