The brand also has recently expanded to also offer skincare and perfume through their Wishful and Kayali lines. Recently, they offered two mystery bags for sale -- a small one featuring five items and a large one featuring eight.

This is a review of the Small Mystery Bag, which is sold out online.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Hude Beauty Mystery Bag March 2021 Review

Everything came packaged in this holographic makeup bag. I love it! It's not available for sale on its own, but it looks like it is available in a set with another bag here.

The tag on the bag listed the products that came in this mystery bag.

We also received a sample of the Kayali Citrus perfume.

Huda Beauty Matte & Metal Melted Shadows in 'Room Service' and 'Do Not Disturb' - Retail Value $25.00

When I first opened this box up I thought the mystery box contained three lip products and I was disappointed. Alas, that was not the case! This is a double-ended liquid eyeshadow that features a matte shade and a metallic shade. I didn’t love the matte shade 'Room Service' -- it leaned too far from terracotta territory into burnished orange in a way I don’t love for my personal taste. The metallic shade, on the other hand, is much more my style. The shade 'Do Not Disturb' is a metallic rose gold that also leans a little coppery. I have many a shiny eyeshadow, but this is a unique color I haven’t seen before. The staying power on both colors is fantastic -- the metallic shade 'Do Not Disturb' even held up really well when I was crying, even though that’s not something I usually aim to do when trying out products for review.

Huda Beauty Demi Matte Cream Lipstick in 'Shero' - Retail Value $20.00

I think I may have received this lip color before from my Ipsy Glam Bag Plus subscription, but I can’t be sure. This is a semi-matte lipstick with a cream formula, and unfortunately, that meant this doesn’t have a lot of staying power. I didn’t eat anything particularly greasy or unwieldy when wearing this, but the color was still mostly gone by the time I was ready for lunch.

Here I am wearing the lipstick and the liquid eyeshadow in the shade 'Do Not Disturb' as a thick eyeliner.

Huda Beauty Diamond Balm Sparkly Lip Balm in 'Seductress' - Retail Value $25.00

I’m kind of obsessed with this lip balm. I love the sparkling overlay that coats the balm, and the glitter reflects beautifully in the light. I was really expecting the lip balm to be gritty from the texture of the balm, but it went on smoothly and felt really nourishing to my lips. The color is gorgeous -- it’s the softest tint of pink with gold and pink reflecting sparkle, and while the sparkle is super obvious on a bare-arm swatch it’s a bit more blurred on my lips. The end result is lips that are pretty natural looking that glow when the light hits. I don’t understand how this works, but I really freaking love it.

Here are the swatches. At the top (it's very faint) is the lip balm, then the lipstick, and then the melted eyeshadows.

Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Amethyst - Retail Value $27.00

I am a sucker for a shimmery purple eyeshadow, so this palette was perfect for me. Some of the mattes were a little tough to work with and not super pigmented, but I loved that the shimmery shades had an almost foil finish and that the colors blended really well.

Here are the swatches.

Here is a look I did wearing the eyeshadow palette and lip balm. For the lip balm, I lined my lips with a nude lip liner before applying the balm (the way it is shown in the video on the product page), and I loved the way it turned out

The Verdict: I love a mystery box, and I haven't been able to enjoy one in a while. This one from Huda Beauty filled that void perfectly! While I would have preferred to see a little more variety than two lip products and two types of eyeshadows, I appreciate that the colors are wearable and none were on clearance. The four makeup items added up to $97, which is almost double the cost of the box. The product page from Huda says that the value should be $119, which leaves $22 left to be attributed to the makeup bag (which I think is fair considering the makeup bag duo is retailing for $45). Overall, I would play the mystery box game with Huda Beauty again!

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No, unfortunately, both sizes of the mystery bags are currently sold out online.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $56.95 ($49 + $7.95 shipping) and I calculated a total value of $97 for everything except the makeup bag. That means you're paying approximately the following per item:

  • Matte & Metal Melted Shadow: $14.68
  • Demi Matte Lip Cream: $11.74
  • Diamond Balm: $14.68
  • Amethyst Obsessions Palette: $15.85

I ordered the large one and am SO disappointed! I was super excited to get the Mercury retrograde palette but I got the rose gold one-the one we just got in Ipsy glam bag x! The rest was kind of lame as well-black eyeliner, beauty blender, lip strobe in a bronze metallic color, highlight palette in warm sands-waaay too dark for me, lip balm-love this, oh and an air freshener!?!
I am so sad! I love Huda products but this was not it!

Same. Total disappointment considering how many products I would’ve been happy to get. It was like a bag of old products that didn’t sell.

This makes me happy. I really wanted to order this for chance to get the Retrograde. I got the Rose Gold one last year in the Huda Mystery box. I am glad I did not get another one. It is a great palette tho.

Jessica- you’re beautiful and the look you did with the eye palette and lip balm is stunning. That being said- the orange eye product and the lipstick- it’s pretty on your arm, and a totally different color on your face- would not work for me. The sparkle balm is nice and I could play with the eye palette to make it work- but all in all, I’m glad I missed this one. I appreciate your review because I don’t feel any FOMO!

You look stunning!! I can’t wait to pick up the lip balm. Thanks for explaining the difference in how it look in the tube/swatch vs on lips. Otherwise I would have been scared away by all the sparkle.

That amethyst palette is one of my favorites! I use it regularly and I was still impressed with how great of a look you created with it.
I am a big fan of the obsession palettes. I have the amethyst, emerald, and mauve.

Did u like the Emerald palette? Pros cons

Ashley.C

The emerald is every bit as gorgeous as the amethyst. It is literally the same except with greens instead of purples (and I wouldn’t use that same comparison for the mauve). The only reason I don’t use the emerald as much is that I am not as brave with greens as I am with purples. It would be fair to say that you could create an equally beautiful green shimmery look.
For someone like me, it’s great that the palette provides more subtle mattes in lighter colors so I can experiment. For anyone that wears green regularly, I would say this is a must-have!

Jessica Hapak

Thank you so much, Ashley! I used one of the lighter matte shades as a base and then packed on the three different shimmer shades (inner corner, middle, outer corner) and then just blended it. The shimmers blended beautifully together and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Thank you so much! I had done a deep conditioning treatment that day and added in the Amika Flash mask to boost the shine of my curls. I air dried (most of the way) in a cotton hair wrap and I was good to go!

I love, love the Amika Flash mask. It is one of my holy grail hair products!
