Magnolia candle subscription

Well, this makes scents.

Magnolia, the home decor online marketplace from Chip and Joanna Gaines, has just launched two brand new candle subscriptions.

"In our house, it's the simple things that shift us forward into a season — like lighting a candle with scents that celebrate that particular time of year. It's a small thing, but it prompts us all to look up and embrace what is before us. To me, that's always an occasion worth noting," Joanna wrote in an email announcing the news.

The Seasonal Candle Subscription ($96) marks the changing seasons with four different 11-ounce candles delivered to your door.

Sign up now and you'll receive a candle called Fresh Start, which has notes of grapefruit, salt and mineral (the cutoff date to receive this scent is April 27, 2021). In May, a spring scent will waft through your home with Daybreak, a combination of orange, peach and heliotrope. In August, you can look forward to fall with Gathered, which smells like pumpkin, coffee and nutmeg. And as the year saunters toward its end, in October, you'll receive Twelve Nights — which taps into the holiday season with cedar, citrus and Fraser fir.

Meanwhile, the Signature Candle Subscription ($96) also includes four 11-ounce candles and is a collection of clean, fresh scents.

Your first delivery will include a candle called Linen, which has hints of cotton and jasmine. In May, Greenhouse with it's notes of cucumber, thyme and melon, will arrive. In August, reminisce about the scent of paperback books with Library as it features bergamot, clove and firewood. And in October wind down with Stay A While with its notes of green tea and lavender.

Poured in the USA, candles are made from phthalate-free wax, are housed in a glass vessel and feature a cotton wick. Each candle boasts a burn time of 55 hours and a small glass bottle of matches is included in the second shipment.

The couple, who first rose to fame after appearing on HGTV's Fixer Upper, opened their first store in Waco, Texas, in 2003.

I like the incentive of saving a little bit of money in a subscription box, so this is a no. Plus since finding Diva by Tyler Candle Company, I’d rather stock up on that.

I get Vella Box and pay $30 for 2 candles so I’m not going to complain about the price but there’s only a savings of 4 measly dollars so why on earth would I subscribe when I can just go out and buy the scents I want? This is not a good deal and they’re relying on their name only to get subscribers.

“Yea It’s going be a no for me dawg” In my best Randy Jackson voice.

Hilarious! 🤣🤣. And I couldn’t agree more.

It seems pretty overpriced, but it is neat that it’s a seasonal sub and not monthly. I feel like they’d probably get more interest if it was $25 a month vs. $96 upfront. Also, at that price point ons would hope for either more than one candle or a level of customization/skipping. I’ve seen pretty cute candles on Etsy (even bought some) so I don’t really need a sub to pick out candles for me.

That’s so expensive! I like my Vellabox subscription where I can skip any month I don’t want a candle & still get a variety of scents from different companies when I don’t skip.

I love my Vellabox, I’m on my second month now, and I like knowing I’m getting candles from smaller batch producers and helping small companies in this economy. I’ve also been getting tons of coupon codes so if I want more candles the subscription helps with that. This seems overpriced.

I like candles and have been thinking about getting a candle subscription but I cringe at the idea of giving them any money.

I really dislike their design aesthetic which is creeping into a lot of other areas and companies.

SHIPLAP FOR ALL! 😆

MzBev

Agree.

Snow

Why is that? Just curious because I really don’t know.

Those two have their greedy fingers in every pie now. I would much rather buy a candle subscription from the little guy, especially in this pandemic economy. The pricing reflects how greedy they are. I bet the candles aren’t even made in the USA.

Caty

They employ people too and are also philanthropists in their own rite. The article states the candles are made in the US. I don’t understand the point of coming here just to complain. Don’t want candles then don’t buy them from here, simple. Yeesh.

I’m not sure how many employees Magnolia has overall, but there are 600+ in Waco, Texas. The Magnolia Market there also brings in millions of tourists – or did before Covid, anyway – thus also bolstering the city economy.

Having many businesses isn’t the same thing as being greedy, and they in turn being more jobs and help charities.

While this candle sub isn’t for me, and I think they didn’t set it up as well as some other candle subs, there’s nothing wrong if they want to get into the candle business, too.

Kate

Yeah, I wouldn’t buy this sub, but the Sugared Birch candle at Target is dope and I’m here for it.

Kate

Why would you do this when you can buy larger Magnolia-branded candles from Target for less?

Jennifer

Exactly, lol. Wait for a sale and they’d be even cheaper, plus you can smell then first.

Tina Ames

Holy crap almost 25.00 for each candle, no thank you.

michelle

If I’m paying $24 per candle, I’m going to pick the scents. And to be honest, I’m not paying $24 for a candle. Thanks, but no thanks.

Exactly.

I like this idea! And I love Chip and Joanna!
