Quirky Crate March 2021 Review

Quirky Crate samples one item from a featured artist or brand each month. This month features Carol Pakiw; she owns Ooly, a brand that generates smiles with their vast range of products for all ages. This info card gives you some insight into her background as well as some social media info.

On the flip side of the card, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value. This month's theme is "Sunshine & Rainbows," and it may be my favorite curation, yet!

Time to get quirky!

Smiley Socks - Listed Value $9.00

Here is another throwback to my past self. Before my rainbow phase, I went through a smiley face kick. Everything, including my homework, had smiley faces doodled on it. I still love them today, so you could imagine what my emoji usage is like. This pair fits like a dream on my 7.5-8 sized feet.

I love the crew length and ribbed details at the ankles, which is a little different from QC’s usual product, but I welcome the change-up!

Rainbow Purse - Listed Value $36.00

The truth is that I am in love with this bag. If Hot Topic sold it 20 years ago, my mom would have been forced to drag my rebellious, rainbow covered butt out of the store kicking and screaming without it. This faux leather bag will be the perfect spring accessory to brighten up my day and store my essentials. I am really happy with its size too; my phone, wallet, and makeup essentials (balm, concealer, lippie) pouch fit in there with room to spare.

Roller Skate Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10.00

With Easter coming up, this box came in perfect timing. My sister, a former roller derby player will absolutely love this skate pin in her Easter basket! She misses the action, so it will be a nice nod to her former life as a blocker. This pin has such cute detailing, including the hearts on the wheels and little rainbow stripes. Let the good times roll, indeed!

Rainbow Sunglasses/Mask Strap - Listed Value $15.00

My fondness for pompoms, which you'll discover later on in this review, is intense! This party around the neck will keep your mask or glasses at the ready! I have a tendency, like most people, to lose my masks, and I can never find my favorite pair of glasses when I need them. With the help of this colorful strap, (hopefully!) I won't lose either, again! Use the lobster claws to attach this to your mask or attach the rubber loops to the stems of your glasses. It is a fun accessory that can put the final touches to any outfit.

Ooly Eraser - Listed Value $4.00

This month's featured brand, Ooly, has a vast catalogue of cute and colorful items, including this eraser. It is large and in charge and has a fruity scent to it. It has been a long time since I've needed an eraser, since I am a pens and markers kind of gal, but there is a part of me that thinks this eraser is just what my office needs. In the rare occasion that I might need an eraser, I will be prepared!

DIY Rainbow Pompom Kit - Listed Value $8.00

I forewarned earlier about my adoration of pompoms, but I will try to leave this product an unbiased review... That being said, I absolutely love this little kit! I've made pompom garlands in the past for my little tchotchke shelves, but this kit has everything you need. It includes 3 poms of each color, a string and thick plastic needle.

It was simple to complete this garland, and I'm obsessed with the cheerful outcome. This isn't quite done, though; somehow I managed to omit two colors (a red-orange and sky blue), so I plan on restringing soon.

Happy Wall Prints Set - Listed Value $15.00

Sometimes we all need kind reminders to move forward and get out of that quarantine-induced slump, and what better way than taking a glimpse at one of these impeccably cheery prints? Each print measures 6x9, the perfect size for a cubicle or small work space. They are all bright with floral and rainbow patterns, keeping up with this months theme Sunshine and Rainbows.

The Verdict: March's Quirky Crate is my favorite box, yet! I've been off for the last two days since I received this shipment, and I am dying to show off my new flair at work! Everything from the bag, socks and the mask strap will be on heavy rotation probably for forever. The pin will be a total hit with my sister, and I know my pompom garland and my inspirational prints will definitely put a smile on my face, even if I am not having a great time in the office. The total value of this box adds up to $97, over double the $36.95 + $8.50 shipping subscription cost. Quirky Crate is happy mail which makes it worth every penny!

To Wrap Up:

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

My daughter received this months box as a gift. She is struggling with the Pom Pom garland as it has no instructions. Can someone provide some instruction for this DIY craft???

I put all my Quirky Crate stuff up on eBay. It’s so cute, but I just am not using it

Received an e mail from them, which said they’re having a sale on past boxes. $10 off with code 10OFF, through 4/15.

Most of the non-branded stuff comes from Alibaba, and likely isn’t costing the people who run the box that much money. Those purses are usually nowhere near the $36 value they always give them. I get increasing values since usually you have to buy the items wholesale, but the values are disingenuous.

I’d rather this box’s curators either nix the values they give the wholesale items or start working with more indie designers on different items. Why not a purse with an indie design? Or a mug, as Kelly suggested? But I guess that would lower the box’s profit since they’d have to pay the designers more than buying cheap items off of wholesale websites. 😛

This month had such cute items! I would have been happy with the socks, purse and pin!

After the other comments, I looked up next months. That bag! Lol!

This is definitely the subscription for that person who doesn’t take life too seriously (in a good way!) I love the “fun” that goes into it, but like Kelly mentioned, some variety in things might make this a better box (though they probably stick to items that don’t need to be sized.)

Always a fun read, Abby. That’s cool you have sisters that you are close too. I wish I had that with my siblings, but I digress 😁

I got this box a couple of times, but then realized it’s the same thing every month, with just a different theme.
Every month there’s a cartoon purse (don’t need a purse EVERY month).
Every month there’s a pair of socks that are too short.
Every month there’s a pin (which I actually don’t mind – seriously – you CAN get a pin every month.) Every month there’s an eraser.
Then there is a notepad type product and a couple of misc items.
I like the concept. But this box could be improved big time by having more variety. Maybe one month socks, one month a shirt. One month a purse, one month a mug. Whatever. Maybe a snack. Maybe a book or game. Otherwise, this is basically the same box every month.

AliExpress. Pretty much all the non-branded items from this box are from there or Alibaba.

Ohhhh where did you see spoilers? This box was sooooo happy. I will likely have most items snagged by nieces haha. The mask lanyard thing already walked away. I think I will make a cat toy out of the pom poms.

I’m on their mailing list since I’ve subscribed a few times on & off.

The spoiler is currently up on their Instagram page, too.
