The See New Skincare Box January/February 2021 Review

Skin Essence Organic Fresh Cleanser, 4.05 oz - Retail Value $27.00

I didn't love this cleanser for reasons that are completely scent-related. I really, really dislike lemongrass. And this cleanser smells very much of lemongrass oil. Other than that, I kind of loved its effectiveness. It has a very heavy gel texture, lots of creamy lather, and just a hint of coolness on the end. It did a wonderful job of breaking down my makeup (I just reviewed a wild palette so I needed extra cleansing help!). I was also impressed with how simple and understandable the ingredient list here was (a theme that continues across this entire brand). Glycerine, organic oils, arrowroot powder, witch hazel, and a few other familiar things make an appearance. A quick note: there is coconut oil in this cleanser, so it might not work for all skin types. If you are oily, acne-prone, or just super congested, maybe skip this one. I always feel more comfortable with coconut oil in a cleanser than I do in a formula that you leave on your face like a moisturizer, but just listen to your skin and if you are breaking out, pass.

Skin Essence Organic Facial in a Jar, 3.38 oz - Retail Value $35.00

As someone who performs facials for a living... I will say this isn't QUITE a facial in a jar. But I did love this stuff! It is a greenish-brown powder that you can mix with water or even yogurt if you need an extra moisture boost. It is made from oat powder, marshmallow root powder, jasmine flowers, clay, stevia, cornmeal, and green tea. That's it! I added some to a bowl, added water, and stirred until the consistency was thick and smooth. I then massaged it on my skin in circular motions for about three minutes, which felt so relaxing and nice! I then left it on an additional three minutes then rinsed with warm water. My skin felt super smooth and very calm afterwards and because clay was farther down on the ingredient list, I didn't feel overly dry or tight. So, again, while my actual facials are a lot more in-depth than this simple jar, I give it 2 thumbs up.

Skin Essence Organic Rosehip Oil, 30 mL - Retail Value $25.00

Many of you know I am a huge facial oil fan and I use them daily! I also use a lot of oils for facial massage with my hands and different tools like cold globes or a Gua Sha. Rosehip oil is such a wonderful choice for the face because it has loads of essential fatty acids that boost your skin's overall hydration levels and improve texture. The vitamin and antioxidant levels in this stuff is off the charts meaning it helps prevent aging along with fading fine lines over time. It also isn't likely to clog pores because it has a super low comedogenic rating. So, lots of reasons to love this stuff! This oil is a golden shade and has a very slight nutty yet sharp scent that is pleasant. You can use this on your face or really anywhere that you feel dry, including elbows, knees, and cuticles.

Skin Essence Organic Nourish, 30 mL - Retail Value $32.00

I think I was expecting this to be more of a cream texture, but it is very thin and liquidy. Again, super simple ingredient list here: jojoba oil, rosehip oil, macadamia nut oil, apricot kernel oil, orange oil, kukui nut oil, neroli flower oil, vitamin E, jasmine oil, evening primrose oil, and some zinc oxide. It smells so good! Floral but citrusy, and the oils absorb into my skin very easily, making this a totally appropriate choice for both day or night.

Verdict: See New Skincare Box introduced me to a new brand this delivery, and I quite like it! Sure, the cleanser wasn't for me, but Will actually loves it and has used it for the last few nights. I personally really enjoyed the mask and the Nourish moisturizer, as well as the bottle of rosehip oil that I will always get good use from. The value here was nice too (although a little lower than some other deliveries) landing at $119, which is still a good value for a $47 box.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but check out the spoilers for the upcoming March/April box here!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I was skeptical to purchase this as I have been a Laurel & Reed fan since day 1 but wow… I am extremely impressed with See New! From presentation of the box, the handwritten note, products that were FANTASTIC! I mean I have never seen my skin look so clear, I’ve always loved getting boxes simply to try new products but I had to say how impressed I was after trying for the first time! Thanks so much for introducing Megan! Simply cannot wait for what else they put together

I thought the box items were lovely, but I won’t be using the cleanser due to the coconut oil.

I tried See New before & really loved it! I just had so many products I ended up skipping this one but know I’m regretting it! Those oils look amazing

Hi Megan! Facial oils continue to bewilder me. I never know when to use them in my facial routine. It SEEMS like I’d use them in place of serum, but others have shot down that idea. Can you tell me when to use this? (assuming I’m going to use on my face and not my scaly elbows or creepy feet).

I think in many ways it all comes down to personal preference. I always use the most liquid, lightweight products first. At night, I apply my retinol oil to clean skin and allow to absorb for a few minutes then top with my nighttime moisturizer. Works well for me.

I think for me I like to use it in place of a cream moisturizer, most of the time. I am super dry and I love applying an oil like this as my last step before bed. It gives a ton of hydration and since its night, I don’t care if I look a little shiny! Hope that helps!

By far my favorite sub. I skipped this month, only because I am kind of overloaded on product. I’m halfway into my 2nd annual and still couldn’t be happier with it!

I am really loving this sub. It is still small enough that it is very personal, with a personalized note card in each box! The curation is lovely and I really love being exposed to a full suite of products in a price range I can afford. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE those expensive brands too, but this sub is really hitting a much-needed niche.

I really like both the cleanser and facial in a jar–haven’t gotten around to trying the other products yet! I think the packaging on these items is very nice and makes them feel expensive.

Although I don’t always like all the products in these boxes (as I don’t use certain products like toner), I do like how you get to try a skin-care regimen from a single brand (and that they’re cruelty-free!) It’s helped me discover new brands.

Been waiting for this review! I absolutely loved the products in this sub, especially the facial in a jar (been using it almost every night and I love it, especially the natural smell.) The rosehip oil is lovely too. Everything about this sub from products to presentation to price was exquisite! Absolutely no complaints and I can’t wait for March/April ☺️
