The Box By Fashionsta February 2021 Review

The Box By Fashionsta comes with a simple info card that provides a short description of each included product, along with its individual retail value. This month focuses on self-care and love.

Realher Dreams So Big Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $28.00

I was really excited to try this palette because the shades were all perfect for me. The palette has nine shades that come in matte, sheen, shimmer, and metallic. The shadows are vegan and are made with avocado and coconut oil. I will say that I had a ton of fallout with each of the shadows that were a bit problematic with the darker shade that I used in my first photo. It was slightly tricky to blend and got a bit all over my face, but once I switched brushes I was able to get it under control and blend it to a nice shade. Once I knew that there was heavy fallout, I was able to sort of switch my application process and then was able to get a really nice buildable coverage. I love the mix of matte and metallics and will be getting a lot of use out of this lovely palette!

Measurable Difference Hyaluronic Acid Serum, 1 fl oz. - Retail Value $14.99

Hyaluronic Acid is like the fountain of youth for your skin. It helps your skin to hold in moisture which in turn helps to beat wrinkles and premature signs of aging. This serum is also ultra-hydrating so it is great if you have dry sensitive skin like myself. It is very concentrated so I have found that a little goes a long way. I have been using it in the morning and at night for that extra boost of hydration that my skin is loving so far. I apply a small amount all over my face and neck right before applying my moisturizer. It feels cool on my skin and has improved some smaller dry areas as well. This is officially in my skincare lineup!

Bella Pierre Cosmetics HD Finishing Powder, 0.23 oz. - Retail Value $35.00

I have discovered that I am just not a finishing powder girl. My skin is so dry which means that all of the products that I use are meant to give me a healthy glow. I love having my skin look dewy and just switched to an amazing new cream foundation that helps to give me that natural glow that I want. I felt like this powder totally took away that glow. This powder is meant to give you a matte finish and set your makeup in place for the day, but I felt that it left me feeling dry. It was also a little too light and left my makeup looking more cakey than usual. This is a mica-based powder that works to set your makeup in place while giving you a shine-free finish. While this product wasn't for me, I am going to pass it along to a fellow Mommy friend that wanted to give it a try.

Herbal Dynamics Beauty Mango & Green Tea Firming Eye Mask, 0.5 oz. - Retail Value $20.00

I have used many eye patches over the years, but I've never used a cream eye mask like this. I was really excited to give it a try! To use, just apply a generous amount to your orbital eye area, leave it on for 3 minutes before removing it with a damp cloth. This felt so soothing on my skin and sort of reminded me how dry that area can be, I need to keep it more hydrated that is for sure! I used this at night before bed and was shocked at how smooth the area felt in the morning. I could see this being great to use in the morning as well if your eyes are extra puffy before applying your makeup. This is made with mango butter, apple extract, mango extract, green tea, and caffeine. The mask works to hydrate and soothes your skin while promoting circulation to reduce dark circles, it also works to reduce water retention. This is such a nice product to soothe and hydrate that sensitive eye area.

Caolion Aqua Fresh Gel Day Cream, 1.8 oz. - Retail Value $22.49

Just the look of this gel day cream intrigued me. It is filled with oxygen bubbles that reduce the skin's temperature to soothe and cool. Some of the top ingredients include 90% marine collagen, vitamin capsules, water, propanediol, glycerin, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, arginine, and butylene glycol. This gel also works to restore rough and dull skin and supply hydration to your skin's natural moisture barrier. They recommend applying a thin layer during your morning routine. A little of this really goes a long way, my skin just drinks it right in but is left looking and feeling so refreshed. This is honestly a drink of water for your skin. It is perfect to use in the morning as well because it gives my skin this amazing glow that allows my makeup to just glide right onto my skin. It is also so refreshing and cooling, I could see this being amazing to use after a day in the summer sun. My skin is loving this gel cream and I am floored at how it has turned my skin around so quickly!

Noctex Liquid Lip Vial - Retail Value $18.00

This vial is so cool! I really wanted to love this lipstick, from the vial it looked perfect for me. However, it went on really brown and muddy just totally washing me out. They list this as a 90s brown with red undertones which I am normally all about, but I didn't get a ton of the red on me. It has a velvet matte finish and major staying power. I might try this again with different eye makeup, a liner, and maybe apply it by blotting to give it less of a heavy hand and see if I like it a bit more.

Verdict: The Box By Fashionsta was a fun mix of products that gave me some big hits and misses. The Hyaluronic Acid is that big boost of hydration that is helping to keep my dry skin at a minimum, and it is leaving me with a smooth feeling day and night. I love having this super-concentrated serum in my skincare routine now. The gel day cream was a big surprise win for me! It is that perfect cooling boost to my skin in the morning that is leaving me with this incredible dewy glow that makes me feel so good. My makeup honestly just glides on after using this gel. The eye mask was really fun to try since I've never used a product like it before. I was really surprised at how well it worked and helped to make my eye area feel super smooth and hydrated. I learned that pressing powder is just not for me, from the look that it leaves on my skin to how it feels. The lipstick looked so perfect and I loved the vial it came in, but right now I am not loving how deep brown it looked on me, leaving me feeling washed out. I am learning how to work with the eyeshadow palette and have been loving it, plus the shades are super fresh and fun compared to what I have been wearing a lot lately. This box has a retail value of $138.48 which is incredible for a $24.99 box. Honestly, any box that helps to calm my dry skin is a major win for me, and this month brought me two new skincare products that are adding to my new glow. I love learning and trying new products, even if that means learning that something isn't for me, and isn't that what boxes like this are all about? The fun in learning and trying!

I love gel moisturizer, that day cream looks great!

This moisturizer is SO fabulous, I bought 2 additional tubs of it off Mercari. It’s refreshing, light, yet very hydrating and leaves skin incredibly soft. At first I wondered if it would be moisturizing enough, but that concern was lifted the moment I tried it.

It is so refreshing, my skin is loving it!

It’s a friend that is also a mother.

Yep, most of my friends are other moms that I have met through my kids or in my neighborhood on walks. I don’t have too much of a social life and most of my close friends no longer live near me so just how I identify my Mommy Friend Tribe.

Requiem looks really nice in you in the photos! You don’t look washed out at all.

It’s the shades received, too. It was a bit more brown than I expected and a tad darker than my usual lipstick, but i think it actually works. I’m glad I got it since it pushes my boundaries just a little while being wearable, and isn’t like anything I have. That stuff is hard to move once it’s on though so I have to be more careful.

My favorite item from the box is the eye mask, though. I usually wear it for 20 min or even use it as a sleeping mask – it absorbs really well. I love how it cools and de-puffs almost immediately, and also gives the skin an eye lift look by helping tightening it.

I also agree about the lipstick! I think it would be even better if you lined it with a pinky mauve-y liner!

Taryn- can you tell me if the HA serum has any scent to it? I have another bottle that I opened and it is scented and my skin does not like it at all (hyper sensitive). I haven’t gotten to trying anything from last month’s box out yet, and my March box arrived on Friday. Lol oops

Taryn Lowman

It does not have a scent to it.

Taryn Lowman

Thank you so much! I am totally loving that eye mask as well!

I completely agree with you. I think the lipstick looks great on Taryn! I actually think lipstick can be tricky to nail down and I actually don’t see too many women wearing it (pre-mask of course ha ha.) But when a person finds the right color it seriously is like hitting the lip lottery (I totally stole that phrase from Megan!)

Snow

Man, I seriously need to proofread before I hit submit.

This seems like a great box with products that personally intrigue me -except for the palette which is way too neutral for me. Still though, seems cool for the price.

I think you may want to try mixing that lip color with a red lip product and then I think it could work very well for you!

Taryn Lowman

Thanks so much! I did try mixing it with a brighter red and it worked surprisingly well!

Apparently enough people asked for brother palettes that they picked the Athena palette for March from Dito cosmetics. I haven’t got my box yet, but it looks so pretty with the bright colors and amazing greens.

For the Noctex lippie, did anyone get the lillies color and want to trade for the requiem color?

I was just checking the reviews on that Hyaluronic acid and someone mentioned that the ingredients contain methylisothiazolinone, (as I can also see on your pic) which can be very bad for the skin and is actually banned in some places. You should read into it, since your skin seems sensitive also based on your reviews.

I am thinking of just throwing the liquid away because I don’t want to give away something I wouldn’t use. I have sensitive skin.

Love your reviews, btw.

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up on that hydraulic acid, for the first time I dropped something right in the trash, without even feeling guilty. I read up on that ingredients, and I don’t feel comfortable at all with putting that on my face!

LunaLee

You’re welcome, Shari!

Aw dang! I am in love with that HA. Once I started using it, I immediately decided, I finally have the trifecta! Join the Facebook trade groups and swap for something you’ll use! 😃

Taryn Lowman

Wow, I just did a deep dive into this ingredient and I am shocked! I had no idea, it is basically banned everywhere. I am also surprised since my skin is so sensitive that this hasn’t given me any sort of reaction, it has actually been working really well for me. After reading everything though I don’t know if I should be using it directly on my face. I am going to be on the lookout for this now in other products. Thanks so much for this helpful tip!

LunaLee

You’re welcome, Taryn!

Taren

Use it on other parts of your body or mixed with lotion. Other parts of your body are not sensitive like your face or neck usually. And you’ll use it quickly and get the moisture boost, even if it’s just for a few days. Better than just trashing it.

Reply ButtonReply

LunaLee

I do that with other products so, I don’t know why I didn’t think about it with this, lol. I guess because I wanted to give it away since I have the Good Molecules one I received in a Trendmood box. I’ll do that though, thanks. 😊

OK…I’m being inflammatory, but what is a “Mommy friend”? Is it different to an actual “friend”. Sorry to ask. I assume this person is someone that you wouldn’t associate with except that she is the parent of you kid’s friends.

Reply ButtonReply

Taryn Lowman

Lots of “Mommy Friend” questions. I didn’t mean to offend or be rude in calling someone that. I don’t have too much of a social life right now, many of my very close friends no longer live near me. Since my kids are young a lot of my friends are fellow Mom’s that I have met through my kids at the park or on walks in our neighborhood, so not people that I am going out with to dinner on our own, people that I really like but we only hang out when our kids are playing.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

I was wondering, too. It must be a younger generation term. Like ‘play date’. When we were kids, we just played with our friends, lol.
