This chocolate brown “Must Be Melanin” Tee by Izzy & Liv complements every possible skin tone. The text reads, “It must be melanin,” inside a pattern of circles featuring every shade in the skin rainbow. I love the message of self-love, unity, and acceptance this graphic tee sends. It is a refreshing outlook in comparison to some of the darker events of the past year. Made with 100% cotton, this tee is machine washable — but make sure you wash it in cold water, inside out, with like colors, and tumble dry on low, or lay flat to keep the size and the graphic in tiptop shape.

This Izzy & Liv “Inner Talk” Post-It Notes to Self booklet is an absolutely adorable collection of affirmation and motivation sticky notes. Each booklet contains a set of three 20-sheet 3-inch by 3-inch post-it notepads. I love the design and the color scheme, not to mention the friendly, positive messages on each pad. The ones I received say, “Work on you for you,” “today is a new day,” and “I choose happiness.” I am really excited to have this post-it note set on my desk. Not only is it esthetically delightful but the affirmations are a little self-motivating pick-me-up that I need while working from home.

Masks have become one of the most important accessories for going out and staying safe, and Izzy & Liv breathe new life into this must-have accessory with their bright, bold patterns and designs. These masks are non-medical, three-ply, disposable face masks, with dimensions of 6.8-inch by 3.7-inch, and are good for up to eight hours of wear. Each 10-pack includes five prints. Izzy & Liv "It's Lit" Book Light - Listed Value $12.00
Izzy & Liv’s “It’s Lit” Book Light brings me back to reading under the covers in elementary school with my crappy Dollar Tree book light when I was supposed to be asleep. I absolutely love the inclusion of this product in this month’s box. The design is a convenient clamp-on, with a flexible 360-degree neck, that clips on to any book or headboard. This book light is an LED touch-activated light and has three levels. It’s conveniently rechargeable and comes with a USB cable. I know I will get a lot of good use out of this product and have found the sleek design and rechargeable capabilities enjoyable. Subscribers could have received one of two colors: white or black. I received black.

[February 2021 Box UPDATE] Just As I Am: A Memoir by Cicely Tyson - Listed Value $30.00
This powerful memoir, Just As I Am: A Memoir by Cicely Tyson was supposed to be included in the February 2021 Brown Sugar Box, but due to a high-demand after this legendary woman’s passing, the publisher was unable to keep up — so, all subscribers were made to receive the memoir in the following March 2021 box. A beautiful hardcover book, this memoir dives into, as said best by Viola Davis:
“This book is Ms. Tyson’s abundant treasure to each of us: her life, in her words, just as she is. She shares truths usually whispered between close friends in the dim light of a back bedroom, those candid declarations not often spoken aloud. And she tells her story the way only a black woman can: in all of its dazzling authenticity, heels off and voice undulating, shifting between anguish and exuberance. The art of acting is the art of exposing, an emotional unveiling before others. Ms. Tyson is as revelatory on these pages as she has been on the stage.”
I’m only part of the way through this #1 New York Times bestseller, but I have to say, it is an absolute must-read. Cicely Tyson left us with a truly mesmerizing, honest, engaging, and educating gem. May she rest in power.
The Verdict: I think the March 2021 Brown Sugar Box was another fabulous box from Izzy & Liv. The curation was right on point. We received the Cicely Tyson memoir as promised, from last month’s box, which went hand-in-hand perfectly with the book light. Another awesome duo from this month’s box is the 10-pack of disposable masks in amazing, bright patterns and colors, which went hand-in-hand with the belt purse. With these two items, you’re all set to experience a springtime adventure at any of the outdoor activities happening this year. I also love the beautiful and positive design of the Inner Talk post-it notes. They look beautiful on my desk and the affirmations are uplifting. The Must Be Melanin tee holds a positive message and has a visually dynamic graphic design that just pulls you in. With a retail value of $102, I think this month subscribers received not only a great value but also a blend of beautifully designed, useful necessities.
