GlossyBox April 2021 Review

GlossyBox includes an info booklet that tells you about each included item, its value, and a tip on how to use it. This month also featured a few pieces of literature along with coupon codes.

Extra Treat: The Good Patch Be Calm, 1 patch - Estimated Value $4.00 (buy 4 patches here for $16.00)

This discreet little patch can be worn on your wrist for 8 to 12 hours. It provides you with a natural calm to help you relax and decompress. It is perfect to wear when you are feeling stressed, anxious, or just want to unwind. The patch is made with 15 mg industrial hemp extract, 4 mg menthyl lactate, 2 mg ashwagandha root powder, 2 mg passionflower powder, 0.35 mg black pepper extract. I put this patch on when I got up in the morning after my shower and started my day with my kids. Our mornings are crazy hectic, but if I am being honest my days, in general, are pretty hectic with two kids that are two years apart in age. After a pretty crazy fight over stickers and markers between the kids, I told my husband I thought the patch wasn't working. To which he said, "I think you need about 8 of them on at once to work." So I think that sums it all up, this patch didn't really keep me calm or less anxious, unfortunately.

NCLA Beauty We're Off To Never Never Land, 0.45 fl oz. - Retail Value $16.00

I am obsessed with this nail polish! From the color to the coverage and texture, it is pretty amazing. I used to get a manicure every week before having my kids, a good manicure can totally change my mood and overall confidence. Receiving this polish really reminded me that I need to take the time to do my nails more often, especially with a quality polish like this one. The night that I got it, I painted my nails in bed with a glass of wine while watching the latest Keeping up with the Kardashians! The polish is vegan, cruelty-free, and made without harmful ingredients. I applied two coats, but even one coat gave me solid coverage. I can't wait to use this polish again!

Freeman Beauty French Pink Clay Peel-Off Mask, 6 fl oz. - Retail Value $4.29

I am not a big fan of peel-off masks and testing this really reminded me why. This mask is made to remove impurities and detoxify your pores to leave your skin smooth and glowing. It is made for normal to combination skin. As many of you know, my skin is so dry and the ingredients in this mask are pretty drying. Making this not a great product for my skin. I decided to give this a go though and left it on for about 10 minutes. I had a really hard time peeling the mask off, only getting small chunks here and there, and I ended up just rinsing everything off. The peeling process is what I don't like about these types of masks, it feels so uncomfortable! My skin felt tight and clean after using this so I was sure to add some extra oils and moisturizer to nourish my skin. While this was a miss for me, I am going to pass this along to someone that I know really loves peel-off masks.

Beautaniq Beauty Nourishing Mascara, 0.28 fl oz. - Retail Value $19.90

This mascara is rich in camellia and almond oil which are rich in vitamin E and oleic acid. It works to volumize, thicken, moisturize, separate, and define your lashes while giving them a smooth and even coat. I tried this mascara for a few days, but I had the same problem each time I used it, coverage. I felt as though I needed to go over my lashes so many times and get more on the wand to get the coverage that I like. Even after so many swipes, I felt as though my lashes weren't very dark. They did look full and separated with no clumping, but I just wasn't in love with the color coverage. I decided to pass this along to my Mom to see if it worked a bit better for her (her lashes are a bit darker than mine naturally).

Kawaii Girl Cosmetics Murray Hill Shimmer Powder – Retail Value $15.00

This vegan-friendly and ethically sourced powder can be used as an eyeshadow, highlighter, or even on your lips. I received the Murray Hill shade which is a dusty rose with a hint of shimmer and gold undertones. This powder is highly pigmented so I was able to get really great coverage, but the best part is that it has a creamy finish to it so I could blend really well. I do find powders to be a bit messy and creates a good amount of fallout, but I was pretty happy with how this went on overall. I do love that this can go out for a light day look or can be turned quickly and easily into a smokey eye.

Cargo Cosmetics Swimmables Eye Shadow Stick in Morro Bay - Retail Value $20.00

This is a creamy eye shadow, but it is also water-resistant and crease-free. The formula is ultra-creamy but it is designed to last you all day, no matter what. This color really is bold and goes on with a full-coverage look that truly lasts throughout your day. I am outside a lot with my kids and work out in the afternoons, but I found that this color really lasted through my entire day without feeling the need to buff or reapply. My only issue was that this was tricky to apply, the stick is sort of small so it almost goes on like a liner so you really have to work to get coverage where you want it. Then, you have 20 seconds to blend it out before the color sets. I felt a lot of pressure when applying, haha! The color is a copper purple tone that I was really feeling. I can't say that I will be reaching for this every day, but I do like the coverage and how long it lasts making it perfect to use for a date night eating outside in the summer heat.

Skin Research Laboratories Beauty on the Go Mini Kit - Retail Value $98.00

This mini kit is filled with a trio of bestseller products from Skin Research Laboratories. This kit would make a great gift for any beauty lover. The kit is filled with neuBROW Brow Enhancing Serum, neuLASH Lash Enhancing Serum, and neuREFLECTION Complexion Perfecting Polish. The brow serum can be applied to your brow line in the morning and night to give you thicker-looking and enriched brows. The lash serum can be used in the evening to the base of your upper lashes to nourish, condition, and help hair growth. The polish is used to exfoliate your skin and decongest pores. You can apply this to clean wet skin in upward and circular motions, leave the polish on for 5 minutes before rinsing with warm water. I haven't noticed a huge difference in my lashes just yet, but I am loving the brow serum so far! It is great to use before shaping and prepping my brows with my makeup. The face polish felt very exfoliating without feeling too harsh on my sensitive skin, but it did leave me feeling very dry the next morning. My skin did look fresh and clean with a light glow to it. I can't say that this polish will be one that I reach for frequently since it dried me out so much, but I was happy with the deep clean that it left me with.

Verdict: This month's box didn't blow me away. Everything was good, but nothing really had me overly excited and I found more products this month that I am going to pass along to a friend. The big-ticket item this month was the Skin Research mini kit. I am loving the lash and brow serum, but the face polish felt a little drying for my already dry skin. It does bum me out that these trio products are all mini sizes. Both eye shadows were great, but I wish the colors were more different from each other.  The peel-off mask was the biggest miss for me, leaving me feeling dry and like my skin was pulled and stripped. The best item this month, for me, was the nail polish. I am in love with the color and the thick coverage made it so easy to apply. The products this month have an estimated retail value of around $177.19 which is great for a $21.00 box. This box usually leaves me feeling so excited and is filled with products that I can't wait to use over and over, but this month left me wanting more. Seasonal transitions can always be a bit tricky, so I am hoping that next month will have more of that exciting curation that I have come to love about this box!

I ended up pulling half of my eyebrow off with a peel mask. I will never try one again!

I think it’s important to point out that there were bonus products included this month; the kawaii eyeshadow powder was for new subscribers and the Skin research mini kit was for those already subscribed.

If keeping calm only needed a patch….I agree with your husband, 8, 9 maybe even 10 would probably be needed touching every major body part at all times 😆

Laural

I’ve been subscribed to Glossybox since 2016 and I didn’t receive the Skin Research mini kit.

I didn’t either. I got two face cleaning cloths.

Yes, really good points! I will update those products listing how I was able to get them. Hahahaha, right? One patch just doesn’t cut it.
