Love Goodly VIP Box April/May 2021 Review

Happy Spring, everyone! I was missing Love Goodly so much and then it arrived—yay! As someone who has so much fun exploring new skincare goodies, but also has a really light and sparse beauty regimen, I love that this box is bi-monthly. It gives me just enough time to miss it and look forward to it.

Each Love Goodly box comes with an info card detailing the items included. If you're signed up for the VIP box, you'll receive all the same items that are sent in the Essentials box but with 1 extra VIP item. The VIP item is always full-size and information about it is given on its own separate card. You'll also find that in the bottom corner of the main info card there's a code for 15% off any Love Goodly shop purchase. Throughout my review, I link each item back to the company that has created it, but every product in the monthly box becomes available for purchase through Love Goodly shortly after the box ships out. If you don't see the items in the Love Goodly shop right away, check back!

Orglamix Lip and Cheek Gelee Tint in Custom Color "Bunny Whispers," 7g — Retail Value $21.00

This lip and cheek tint comes in five shades of pink and red on the Orglamix website, but Love Goodly offers it in three custom colors*. I was sent the lightest pink of the range that subscribers could have received. The other two are a deeper pink/plum shade and a bronze shade. I was expecting to have to rub this product a few times to warm it up with my finger's body heat, but that's not the case at all. Which makes sense given that it's castor oil based (which doesn't harden)! It's natural and non-toxic, and has the faintest sweet orange scent to it from essential oils.

*You can choose your color by clicking the survey link in your order confirmation email! I missed this email so Love Goodly selected my color for me.

Here's how the tint looks in action. Above you'll see it swatched on my arm and a friend's arm, and on my lips. The last photo shows how incredibly soft the consistency is. It almost feels whipped.

In general I don't reach for frosty beauty items, so I was unsurprised to find that this tint isn't my cup of tea. After using soap and water to wash it off of my finger and arm, it left me with a ton of residual fine glitter. I would've embraced this aftermath in my early '20s when I had places to go and people to see, but now in life I was a little "meh" about being glittery. That said, maybe when life opens back up I'll change my tune!

Gogh Jewelry Design Zero Waste Charm Necklace with Amazonite — Retail Value $29.00

This is my first time receiving a piece of jewelry from this subscription! My eye was caught by the "zero waste" aspect of it, and in this case you don't have to use your imagination—or great trust—to recognize how that's true. Strung along the silver chain are two small parts from SCUBA gear, alongside an Amazonite stone. My one-of-a-kind necklace appears to have a washer and an o-ring on it, which close-up look exactly like what they are, but when you take a step back and admire them in the context of the necklace as a whole they work as contrasting charms. Clever idea!

Measurable Difference Vegan Lactic Acid Skin Renewal Serum, 1 fl oz — Retail Value $14.99

Lactic acid is a skincare solution that's used for skin renewal purposes, specifically evening out skin complexion and plumping. While known for its buffing and exfoliating properties, lactic acid is still mild and gentle. At 8 months pregnant, I don't think I need any help with a plump face, but I do really like the way this serum feels—it's smooth and leaves my skin oh-so-soft. I also love its smell, which is hard to put my finger on but it's undeniably summery. This awesome product is non-toxic and made in the USA (on top of being vegan and cruelty-free, of course).

Balade en Provence Ultimate Solid Conditioner, 1.41 oz — Retail Value $10.50

I was surprised to see another installment of a solid beauty bar from Balade en Provence, which made up much of the last bi-monthly box. From the info card, though, I learned that Love Goodly had been receiving requests to round out subscribers' solid hair care collection with this conditioner! I love that they listened. This sustainable bar is enriched with cocoa butter, coconut oil, and provitamin B5 for detangling and scalp soothing. I never found my groove with the solid bars sent last time around, though I hope to revisit them down the line. For now I'll tuck this one away so that it doesn't just melt away in my shower unused.

Glaminizers Damn. Body Oil — Listed Value $35.00

The VIP item this month is a body oil filled with antioxidants and essential oils. There really isn't much info about it on the label (including the volume, and there's no $35 option on the Glaminizers website, so I'm not sure what exactly we were sent). Here are the ingredients:

Sunflower Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, Pomegranate Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Orange Oil, Ylang-Ylang Oil, Sandwalwood Oil, Frankincense Oil, Blue Cornflowers, Pomegranate Flowers, Vitamin E

It's a thin oil with some lovely botanicals floating around in it, and it's meant to be used on your body after you've stepped out of the shower. It claims to be beneficial for psoriasis, eczema, scars, cellulite, and stretch marks. I hope that those using this body oil are able to celebrate the markings on their skin as they rub the oil on! I am learning that I don't love the scent of ylang ylang, which tends to stand out in any scent blend it's among—and I already use a body oil that's specifically safe for pregnancy—so I passed this oil to a friend.

Verdict: This latest Love Goodly box offered such nice variety! My top pick this month is the lactic acid serum for its smoothness and scent. I suppose when it comes down to it, the rest of the spread wasn't spot-on for me, though each had redeeming qualities. Best case scenario is when a box feels tailor-made for me, but that can't be the case with every shipment. I have a lot of family birthdays coming up (and lots of mamas in my life as Mother's Day approaches), so I'll certainly find a good home for everything I was sent.

The contents of this box add up to a total value of $110.49, which was calculated using a combination of retail values and list values. This box costs $48.95 with free shipping, so the value is slightly more than twice the box cost. Love Goodly offers a bit of a higher value on some occasions, but even on the "lower value" months (I hesitate to even call it that) I still feel very satisfied with the thoughtful curation and value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You should be able to get the April/May box if you order today. For renewal subscribers, the next box (June/July) renews on May 28th.

Value Breakdown: At $48.95 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Cheek & Lip Tint: $9.30
  • Zero Waste Necklace: $12.85
  • Lactic Acid Serum: $6.64
  • Solid Conditioner: $4.65
  • Body Oil: $15.51

I’ve subbed to this box for several years (on pause right now, full disclosure, as I get through my mountain of stuff). We got a heart necklace once to celebrate one of Love Goodly’s birthdays (a quick check = Aug./Sep. 2016*). It was also made of recycled base metals, and there are a couple listed on the Swap Page. Oh and it’s also available on their website to purchase.

*Whoa. I really didn’t know it had been that long! Time flies when you’re doing subs!

I received that same necklace in one of last year’s EarthLove boxes and loved it but I pulled it out of my jewelry box recently to wear again and the chain has turned/oxidized or something; it was disappointing 🙁 The rest of this box looks great though, thank you for the review!

I got the necklace in a different sub box awhile ago, and my 3 year old ripped it off my neck. I’m excited to see it show up in another box, and I love Orglamix!

So excited for this! I chose the Bunny Whispers, too for my super fair skin. FYI the purple/pink shade (Bunny Snuggles) is sold out.
