GlossyBox Limited Edition Mother's Day 2021 Review

This limited edition GlossyBox includes a pretty pastel booklet that explains the products included and how to use them.

Bioderma Sebium Mat Control, 15 mL - Estimated Value $10.00 (buy 30 mL here for $19.99)

I have to admit, I was not excited about this product when I saw it and started researching it. This is for people with oily to combination skin, it works to control shine, and it gives your skin a matte finish. I don't suffer from shine, instead, I buy products to make me look shiny, and I've never been a fan of a super matte finish. The reviews on this also seemed a bit mixed with some people saying that this wasn't enough moisture for them on its own, but others saying it was nice to use as a primer. Since my skin is so dry, I use a lot of oils and a hydrating primer to make my skin look like I have a natural glow to it. I decided to use this over my HA and then followed with my daily oil serum, moisturizer, and my Glossier Futuredew which I apply last before my makeup. Much to my surprise I really liked this product which I guess shouldn't be such a surprise since my skin always seems to love this brand! I only used a small amount so it was just enough to give my skin a smooth finish and minimize my pores, while still giving me a touch of hydration. It didn't dry me out and it worked well with my other products, and it allowed my makeup to go on smooth without being too matte. This is made with zinc and vitamin B6 to control shine, hydrate, and refine your skin. This was a pleasant surprise for me, and I am excited to see if I continue to like how this makes my skin and makeup look.

Foy CBD Relief Cream, 15 mL - Estimated Value $8.28 (buy 100 mL here for $54.99)

This 750mg hemp lotion is infused with certified organic essential oils and primitive herbs. It works to quickly penetrate deep within to soothe any muscle aches, joint stiffness, and nerve pain. This goes on smooth without feeling sticky and it smells incredible with a bold minty fresh scent. It feels cooling on your skin at first and gets a bit warmer as it settles in. I took my kids to the zoo the day I got this and had really sore feet by the evening. I decided to massage this into my feet and was shocked at how quickly I felt relief, and I didn't wake up in the morning with my usual soreness. My husband has a lot of back and shoulder pain so I am going to be using this on those areas for him as well to hopefully help relieve some of his constant pain. I wish this came in full-size since I can tell this bottle is going to get used quickly!

Bumble and Bumble Surf Styling Leave-In, 5 fl oz. - Retail Value $29.00

I've tried the surf styling products from Bumble and Bumble over the years without much success. After reading more about this limited edition leave-in, I was really excited to give it a try. This is good for medium to thick and straight to wavy hair. It is a gel cream that conditions, moisturizes, detangles, and fights frizz while also giving your hair UV protection. All you have to do is apply evenly throughout to your towel-dried hair and go. It is going to give you a light hold without feeling sticky and of course, help create those style waves without the work. My hair is already pretty curly so I can't say that it really gave me beach waves, but I did really like how it helped to define the curl on my ends where they tend to get a bit flat depending on the weather. I really loved how the gel doesn't leave my hair feeling sticky like other Bumble products have done for my hair. I also had my husband test this product for me since he has straight hair and he was really into it! He also liked that he didn't feel like he had a styling product in his hair but it gave his ends a cool wave like Jared Leto. Wins all around!

Authentic Beauty Concept Replenish Mask, 30 mL - Estimated Value $5.70 (buy 200 mL here for $38.00)

This mask works to seal the hair cuticle and strengthen the hair fiber. Something my dry color-treated hair really needed! It is made with maple and pecan nuts to nourish and soothe along with dicaprylyl carbonate which is a plant-based oil derivative that provides a protective film over your hair to enhance the hair cuticle. They recommend applying this to clean and damp hair for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. My hair is very thick and gets really knotted, especially in the back, so I have been needing a good mask like this for a while now. I was so excited to give it a try and it did not disappoint! It left my hair feeling soft and hydrated without the frizz and tangles. I am going to try to use this at least once a week to keep my hair tangle free!

Mugler Angel Eau de Parfum, 0.04 oz. - Estimated Value $4.00

I used to really love getting sample-size perfumes because I could take them with me when I traveled without having to worry about breaks or spills. I don't really go anywhere these days so I can see how little testers like this can be a bit lackluster. I am also pretty picky about perfumes, aren't we all though, so I was pretty bummed when I smelled this. It has all of the right scents that I typically love, but all together, this had a really strong scent that was just too overpowering. It is blended with bergamot, sweet praline, and patchouli leaf. Again, this should be something that I would love, but something about it was a bit off for me personally.

Snow Fox Skincare Herbal Youth Oil, 1 fl oz. - Retail Value $82.00

This oil is a 7-blend oil formula infused with ancient herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for firm, supple skin that is also rich in antioxidants. The main oil in this blend is blueberry seed oil along with astragalus root extract and Brazilian paracress which are known as "nature's botox." They suggest applying 2 to 3 drops to your face, neck, and chest in the morning and at night. This is also a great oil to use for massaging or with facial rollers. This oil works hard to hydrate your skin while firming and smoothing fine lines. I have only used this twice so far, but I am really loving it. My skin drinks it in to give me a natural glow that leaves me feeling hydrated and smooth. I am going to be using this in the morning and at night for ultimate hydration and anti-aging benefits. I can't wait to see how this works in the long run.

KAB Cosmetics Red Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick - Estimated Value $18.00

I really love KAB Cosmetics lipsticks! They are so light while giving you solid coverage. It also really lasts, you might need to do little touchups here and there throughout the day, but the overall coverage will stay with you for hours! This is more of a deep plum shade that goes on smoothly and dries with a matte finish. I tend to apply lip balm before applying and then a small amount over the top to smooth and giving it that lasting power. This is perfect for an evening look or on a day when I want to go with a lighter eye and darker lip. This is a classic color that I know I will use for many years to come!

Velvet Eyewear Jesse Sunglasses - Retail Value $55.00

These sunglasses are just my style and what a treat! I lost all of my sunglasses by the end of last summer (many of which I left on the roof of my car when rushing to leave the pool with my kids) so I have been trying to build back my collection. These are a medium (55mm X 17mm X 140mm) aviator that is a bit more rounded on the bottom, and the solid gold bar on the top that I'm really into. These have 100% UV protection as well so they will be great to style around in at the pool. I really appreciate that they come with a bag so I can put these safely in my diaper bag without worrying about them unless of course, I leave them on the roof of my car. What a fun surprise for this Mom!

Verdict: This box brought me so much joy and so many amazing products! You really don't have to be a Mom to enjoy this box, but it is perfect for gift giving. A lot of families still can't be together in person so I could see this being a wonderful surprise for any Mom in your life that you can send right to them even if you can't be together. It is also a great gift to give to that woman that loves the surprise element of beauty boxes with products galore to test. I am a Mom of two kiddos, Fox (5) and Philomena (2). My days are long and I don't get a ton of time to myself for self-care or anything really. Boxes like this always remind me that I can't forget about that beauty-loving girl that I used to be and to take care of myself. This box left me feeling pampered and loved. I was really excited to see the sunglasses this month, such a special treat that was luckily just my style. Both hair products are working wonders for my long locks and even have worked for my husband. I was pleasantly surprised by the CBD cream and the Bioderma moisturizer. The lipstick is a classic that is going right into my pull of favorite lipsticks. The total value I estimated for their $30.00 box is $211.98 which is amazing for a Limited Edition box! This does come in slightly below the promised value from Glossybox, but that is just based on estimated values for the sample size products. I really loved this Limited Edition box, bringing quality and curation while making me feel special. This would make the perfect gift for any Mom or maybe you are a Mom that wants to treat herself. This box does not disappoint!

Received my box yesterday, love the sunglasses, looking forward to using the full sized Bumble & Bumble and Lil’ Fox. Will throw away the KAB lip product, but the value is still there for me without it and I am happy with the Mother’s Day box I gifted myself. Shipping was super fast also!

Kab is owned by Dirty Little Secrets (DLS), a 30 cent rebranded Ali Baba item.

Hypocritical of Ipsy and Glossy — with all this self-aggrandizing about “clean beauty” and introducing us to “new” brands.

Instead, they send us low-quality chemicals, and repackage this junk to evade recognition of poor business practices.

Appropriating the hard-earned recognition of Black-owned businesses? Disgusting.

Has Ipsy in particular ever responded to you, or on social media? I hope you keep alerting us anytime this brand pops up in a box (especially Ipsy).

Elle

Is there a person behind the DLS brand?

Stephanie

Dirty Little Secrets is owned by Emanuela DeFalco. Her brands are Dirty Little Secret, Luna by Luna, Steve Laurant, Bang Beauty, Basic Beauty, Glow on 5th, Saint Luxe, KAB Cosmetics, Give them Lala and Faccia Skin.

Elle

Wow. Masquerading as black owned is just….awful.

I can’t find any articles on this deception — how did people figure this out?

Thank you for the heads up, Stephanie.

Stephanie

I’m sure DeFalco is paying her friend money to be the face of this business. Who knows, maybe she owns a percentage. But DeFalco registered these companies (verified) and import records for these 3 brands are under DLS’s name.

Stephanie

There’s been ongoing discussions on red dit. Now a bunch of us have blown it up because we want Ipsy to take accountability and stop giving us stock responses on why they’re using her brands again.

Erika

Thank you for that heads up. Just looked it up and KAB has bad ingredients in the products. Just looked up the lip gloss and one of the first ingredients is mineral oil.

Also DLS has 3 new brands: Glow on 5th, Basic Beauty and Saint Luxe. All 3 are featured in Ipsy. DLS has tried to cover this up by having her friend on the website saying it’s black owned. Import and registration say otherwise.

Lawden

Huh, I could’ve sworn that one of the housewives owned it

Amarante

The brand is a Vanity brand by Kim Biermann whi was one of the Atlanta housewives but is distributed by DLS. Either affiliation makes it unappealing to me but then the contents if this box seems are unappealing.

Cindy

That is so gross.

You look wonderful. I agree that this a great value box.
