Quirky Crate May 2021 Review
Quirky Crate samples one item from a featured artist or brand each month. This month features Katrina Junio; she is an artsy gal with a love for colorful illustrations and graphic design. This info card gives you some insight into her background as well as some social media info.
On the flip side of the card, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value. This month's theme is "Seas the Day," featuring fun, nautical-inspired items.
Time to get quirky!
Lifebuoy Socks - Listed Value $8.00
This month's pair of socks really didn't have the wow factor for me; I don't think I'd really consider these quirky, even. That being said, they are the same quality I've come to expect from Quirky Crate. I've been reviewing this box for quite some time, and I still have, and wear regularly, the pair from my first shipment. These are medium thick and rise up high my calves. The lifebuoy design is cute, but I would have preferred a sea life motif.
Welcome on Board Purse - Listed Value $40.00
I am smitten with this cheeky purse. It has a costumey vibe to it, which is what attracted me to it at first sight. I would love to wear a flowing navy dress and carry this purse as an accessory. Ahoy! I love a good nautically-themed outfit! The best part about this bag is how wide it opens and how much space there is inside. I was able to fit my phone, wallet, keys, and my concealer inside with room to spare. I wasn't expecting the face to have a sparkling white background, but the iridescence was a happy surprise along with the little faux leather handle on the gold chain strap. All in all, this purse is a great summer catchall!
Anchor Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10.00
I like that QC didn't design an everyday anchor for this month's pin. Of course, it had to have some flair, and the cutesy hearts, comforting sunny seascape, and lifebuoy all make this pin design fun and unique.
I was impressed with the size of the pin when I was unboxing; here is a photo comparing the pin to a nickel.
Seagull Scarf - Listed Value $15.00
Silk scarves aren't really my style, but I like to try to style them when I receive them in a box I am reviewing. Unfortunately, this one was too small to wear around my head, and it looked silly around my neck. The awkward size and shape left me with limited options, and it is so lightweight and soft that I think it would be hard to keep secure. How would you style this? The design is simple enough to work for really any type of outfit, but I'll always prefer more colorful intricate designs.
Orca Pen - Listed Value $3.00
I love flashing my quirky pen stash around at work, knowing that if any go missing I'd easily be able to seek out the perp. These gel pens are fun to write with. This one has a very fine tip with a steady flow of ink, no pooling or patchy writing here! I am also pleasantly surprised by how comfortable this pen feels in my hand.
Octopus Magnet - Listed Value $4.00
Who can resist a wonderfully oblivious octopus with a unibrow? These weather-proof vinyl magnets are tough enough to stand up to the elements if you’d like to bless your car with an octopus who can't even, but I find that I like his presence right on my refrigerator.
Mermaid in a Bottle Necklace - Listed Value $18.00
You can't have a "Seas The Day!" box theme without at least one mermaid. It is a medium-length necklace with a pendant mermaid etched on a bottle shape. The metal is thin, so this necklace is very lightweight and wearable. Even though I usually go for more dainty jewelry looks, I think this necklace would look cute layered with a simpler piece.
The Verdict: May's Quirky Crate was a fun array! I always find a use for each item in my QC subscription; if something doesn't suit my interests, I gift it! I love the assortment of goods sent out ranging from home goods to accessories to colorful flair. This month's theme brought the sea to me, and I am enjoying my new quirky goods, especially my new funky bag and magnet. The total value of this box adds up to $98, over double the $36.95 + $8.50 shipping subscription cost.
