JourneeBox is taking subscribers on a trip to Kyoto, Japan, with its latest lifestyle box, and now we've got full spoilers plus a 10% off coupon.

I am so excited to share this new Journee with you! Kyoto has long been a destination that has inspired me, and I know that the love of this beautiful place influenced every item in this Journeebox.

Once the Imperial City of Japan from 794 to 1868, Kyoto is a UNESCO Heritage site. Known for its culinary refinement, Zen temples, and beautiful architecture, it was fortunately spared the destruction of World War II. The streets are narrow and feel as if you have traveled back hundreds of years. Kyoto can arguably be called the cultural heart of Japan.

With this Box, which includes items from family businesses—one almost a hundred years old—we invite you to imagine the spring Sakura flower blossoms and the red koji gates of the Buddhist temples. Take a deep breath, play our Kyoto playlist, unbox your Journee, and experience Kyoto, Japan: “land of the rising sun.”

COUPON: Use this link and code FIRSTBOX21 for 10% off as a new subscriber.

JourneeBox specializes in ethically made goods from around the world, curated for you by the folks at Kevia Style. Here's what's planned for the Kyoto box:

Platter

Each Kyoto JourneeBox will include a 9" by 5" Kyo ceramic platter.

ceramic platter

Matcha

Furoshiki Bag Set

Made in Japan, your JourneeBox furoshiki can shift easily from one use to another, all while complimenting your unique style! Made of 100% polyester, your furoshiki cloth is double sided, machine washable, and intended to last.

Daifuku Mochi

In this JourneeBox you'll find traditional, cherry blossom flavored mochi, made in Japan just for you. Their traditional red bean paste filling and rice cake texture will transport you to ancient Kyoto. They'll serve as a reminder to celebrate the sweet things in life!

Papaya Seaweed Scrub

Finding a balance, both in our external lives and within ourselves, is rejuvenating. Another important philosophy of Zen practices. In this JourneeBox, our Kevia Papaya & Seaweed Scrub will bring the rejuvenation of the Kyoto Journee right to your own home!

Sakura Flower Earrings (one of four options)

As our Journee through Kyoto comes to an end, we might find ourselves walking beneath the beloved sakura (cherry blossom) trees that line many walkways of the city. Representing new beginnings and renewal, it's no wonder that hanami (cherry blossom viewing) has been a tradition for over a thousand years. Stepping back onto our imaginary bullet train, it might feel sad to leave behind the history and beauty of such a powerful city. But with the Sakura Flower Earrings by Kevia, you can carry a small token of the wonders of Kyoto with you wherever you journee next.

Plus, your JourneeBox subscription includes an exclusive workshop, already included in the price of your JourneeBox, to learn more about how to use your furoshiki! Members can sign up for the workshop at the bottom of this page.

The Subscription Box: JourneeBox

The Cost: Plans start at $59.99 per quarter + free US shipping ($250 value). Pay $54.99 per quarter when you pay for four boxes up front.

The Products: According to the brand, each JourneeBox "contains at least six items — usually falling into the categories of home, apparel, accessories, bath and culinary. The contents of each JourneeBox have a total retail value of at least $200. Certain items will have customizable options; other items will be a mystery until they arrive!"

The platter is a hideous disappointment that does not resemble the product advertised as to color or glaze pattern. I reached out to customer service and received a bogus response that the item – which looks mass-produced – was an artisan piece. Journeebox usually does much better, but this was a miss and the customer service response was not one I trusted.

I just received my Kyoto box and I was very disappointed. The box was beat up (if they are going to go to the effort to use, what appears to be, a beautiful box then they need to use something other than a plastic bag to transport it. The dish was lovely, the necklace delicate and beautiful and the Furoshiki was a wonderful addition for a Japanese themed box. The food item didnt do well in the travel or hot weather and the scrub had a made in china sticker on it. I really wanted to love this box and was so excited to get it but I canceled my subscription and I wish them the best. The long wait was not worth it. I have other things mailed out from that area with no problems so honestly I think they need to work on whatever issues are keeping them from selling what could be a fabulous subscription.

Awwww, I *love* those earrings, but my holes closed up ages ago and I’m not sure I’ll ever bother to get them re-pierced (which, after my bff’s wedding, in which her nurse sister-in-law tried to poke earrings through with no success, would be necessary :/).

My first box with Journey was the Kyoto box; and since then they have grown…. A lot!
They do tend to be a bit late, but the wait has always been worth it. Quality to me is more important than timeliness. They have excellent customer service as well, though I don’t live in Canada. Living in Sacramento Ca. I do understand the heat factor and what it can do to products.
I’ve found a solution that works for me: usually there is tracking of packages; I use the tracking and I’ll put an ice chest on the porch with a note on top to put the package inside.
This works for everything that’s shipped to me during the hot summer months.
I get it that not everyone can leave something on their porch safely…. But if you can, give it a try.
I’m looking forward to this Journey box!

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your comment Becky, but the Kyoto box just started shipping. Did you previously have a subscription?

Mary L.

I wonder if you’re thinking of a different theme then. This is their first Kyoto box. I’ve been subscribed since their second box. 🙂

Becky

Hi Mary, yes this is my second year and my second Kyoto box.

Elizabeth

Do the annual subscribers get additional items? Not sure it seems worth it without.

Aimee

We’ve always received 1 additional item in every box before & I’ve been there since box #1. I’m excited to make my choices when the e-mail comes.

When does selection open?

Sam

Has anyone been able to make their selections?

This is what I got on May 11th after inquiring about the Kyoto box:
“Thank you for reaching out. Apologies for the delay of the Zero waste box, we are now making sure to be better. The Kyoto box is estimated to release in June. We will email you the customization details once it has been finalized.”
Crickets since …

I was an annual subscriber to this box, always found it very unique however I am in Canada and Journee Box emailed me April 15,2021 advising me they were cancelling my sub due to their shipping and duties issues, they also said they were refunding me for the one box I would not receive. I haven’t received a refund and although they answered my 1st few emails they have totally ignored my follow up requests so please be aware before subscribing to this company. It is really not that difficult to process a refund!

Hmm. I was really looking forward to this curation, because I’ve been interested in trying Journeebox, and I have fond memories of visiting Kyoto. But these spoilers feel underwhelming. The ceramic dish and the earrings are beautiful. But I can pick up matcha and mochi at any Asian market. And while the furoshiki is a cool inclusion, both the scrub and oven mitts/potholder set feel like punts on the theme (even if the the mitt/holder design is very pretty). Kind of disappointed, tbh. Oh well, guess I’ll wait for another theme to tickle my fancy.

Amy G

I don’t love the oven mitt/pot holder, either. They seem kind of out of place. On the other hand, our current ones need to be replaced anyway so they’ll be used at my house.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol

looks like they’ve been removed?

Tammy

I’m still on the fence (this is more of a personal issue, as I just have too much stuff at the moment), but this really is such a charming curation. I might bite.

Snow

I can certainly appreciate the thought that went into this curation! Very well done and would love to see it reviewed (especially liking the oven mitt and pad 👍)

Tiffany

So glad I finally listened to all the other commenters raving about this box. They were totally right. It’s an awesome one.

Aimee

I’m so excited for this box and cannot wait to see the annual spoiler! Thank you, Journee team for another stellar box. Can’t wait for my choices!

Aretsuya

I’m so excited for this curation (did my junior year Fall semester abroad in Japan)! And I’m loving that the furoshiki includes handles if you want to tie it that way. My guess for annual gift is a necklace or bracelet that matches the earrings.

Mel

What a fantastic box! Love the idea of going to far away lands and enjoying the culture through the eyes of this curation!

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

This is a miss for me, sent an email to skip.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

Spoiler alert when I skipped they said my next box is Nottingham!

Reply ButtonReply

Sherri

Once again, a box of items you just don’t see in the other subs. Great curation! I’m definitely going to need to take that workshop to learn how to use the bag thing. I wonder if I’m correct in understanding that the annual member item isn’t among those listed here?

Reply ButtonReply

SquirrelyGirl

I was wondering about the annual item as well.

I agree! Great box and curation!

Reply ButtonReply

Kay

I really like this curation. It’s one of the best sub box curations I’ve seen in a while. I don’t plan on buying, because I’m getting ready to move and decluttering has helped me face the reality of how little I use so many sub box items day-to-day. However, if I were in the buying mood, this would be at the top of my list!

Reply ButtonReply

Tolin

I hear you – at this point, I’m not subscribing to any box that sends non-consumable items, and I probably won’t for the foreseeable future. I did a massive decluttering while staying home during the pandemic and am amazed at how much better I feel in a somewhat more minimalist environment. But if I were to get a lifestyle or home decor box, this would probably be the one I would choose.

Flora

I would love this box but I live in Texas, it’s 100F most days, I can’t imagine Mochi being ok in this heat

Reply ButtonReply

CC

True, Flora! Texas heat is a totally different world. I’ve had things melt in my boxes that have had to be thrown out because it’s summer in Texas.

Reply ButtonReply

Flora

Crazy right? I just measured my Ipsy bag and it registered 106.5F (that’s even now in the evening after 8pm when it has “cooled down”) I have to skip July & August because of that.

Joy

They’re a soft rice pastry, not the frozen kind, in case that’s what you’re concerned about.

Reply ButtonReply

Flora

I’m Asian, so I know 😉 If you live in Texas, there are some things you just shouldn’t get parcel shipped between May and September. I’m not home during the day when it gets delivered so it usually sits out on a hot porch/mailbox most of the day. I’ve had tubes of skincare feel like I have boiled it in water after sitting outside for a few hours.

Lorina

Win Win Win!!! I love everything except the mochi! This is the first box I’ve been really excited about all year!

Reply ButtonReply

Ashleigh

I’m really looking forward to this box! I love the variety, and I think the earrings are beautiful. I hope there is a corresponding annual member necklace or other piece of jewelry that looks just like the earrings.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Always a unique curation. This will be my last box of my annual and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve cancelled all of my annual subscriptions and all but one of my monthly. The only annual I will miss is Journee.
