Little Feminist Book Club Ages 0-2 July 2021 Review

I received this welcome sheet introducing this month’s books.

On the back of the welcome page is this month’s activity, which is “Caring for my Toys." Ronan's favorite stuffy right now is a black bear we call Monty. He is the softest plush equipped with a red leash, in case he wants to take a stroll. Ro already shares his water with Monty, but we never quite tucked him in.

This is a great nightly ritual I am going to try to stick to. It gives Ro a chance to take care of his baby like we do for him.

Mindful Tots: Tummy Ride by Whitney Stewart & Rocio Anjandro – Retail value $7.99

This book highlights different ways to get your babe to slow down and be mindful of their breathing. I have been trying to get Ro to parrot deep breathing when he is on the brink of a meltdown, but he has yet to follow along, even though he parrots everything else I do! The illustrations are adorable, diverse and Ronan was especially excited to see a rubber ducky in one of the pictures. After reading through this book, I am definitely going to try to remind Ronan about deep breathing before his next meltdown, so we are prepared.

Clive and His Babies by Jessica Spanyol – Retail value $5.99

This book touched my heart. Clive and his babies are inseparable; they do everything together from splashing around in the pool to potty training. Ronan has shown an affinity for care-taking. He can tell when mom needs a hug, and when we are having a rough day, he pats me on the back in solidarity. He loves to give his animals hugs and sips of water throughout the day, but I'd like to model more caring behaviors on his animals to show him that he can be a caretaker, too!

Discussion Questions

Little Feminist Book Club includes discussion questions for each book every month. Each card follows the book's themes and provides questions to discuss with your little reader about their reading experience and other topics to consider. We had a really fun time taking care of Roni's stuffed bear, Monty. We tucked him in, we shared our crackers, and we gave him hugs throughout the day. Tummy Ride gave us the opportunity to practice deep-breathing, and although he hasn't realized it yet, mindful breathing is going to be a powerful tool to utilize; it's not just a fun thing to watch our bellies rise and fall, even though that is a great start to this learning process.

Verdict: Little Feminist Book Club chooses such heartfelt and useful book selections each month. Tummy Ride was an inspiration and gave me the boost I needed to really start practicing our breathing, and Clive and His Babies jumpstarted a new bedtime ritual of caretaking for Ro. After shipping, this subscription adds up to $26.70 a month; the retail of this box comes to $13.98. There is a $12+ discrepancy between the value and cost of this subscription, which is dire. I absolutely love this service, but the cost is prohibitive, especially when subscribers are receiving books they could buy for half the cost of this sub.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the August books. From Little Feminist:

Once you purchase a book subscription your first box will be shipped within a week. From then on, your book box will be sent the first week of every month.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.
