Our IPSY Glam Bag Plus July 2021 Review
Here is our info card for the month. No specific item list this time.
My drawstring bag arrived with a solar sun in gold and blue accents.
Now, on to the items!
Dr. Brant Pore Purifying Cleanser, 3.5 fl oz - Retail Value $36.00
This isn't a new product to me but it is such a solid choice for whenever I am having a breakout. Because it has salicylic acid, it calms down pesky zits as it helps minimize the appearance of larger pores. It is a gel formula so it provides a deeper cleanse than my dry skin prefers under normal circumstances, but the week before my "special" visitor? This is my go-to to help me look a little more human. If you have oily or combo skin this can be used more regularly to keep sebum production in check and your face looking fresh and clean.
Beauty For Real Golden Hour Palette - Retail Value $36.00
This was a really interesting assortment of eight colors. Looking at the collection as a whole, that blue really stands out as the one that doesn't really "fit" at first, but when I think of this through the lens of a summer palette, I think I get it a bit more and, honestly, without the blue this would be a lot less exciting. As far as the formulas go, pigmentation was pretty good! The mattes felt a little timid when compared to the shimmers but they were still very pretty and a dream for a low-key sort of look. The blue was way more in your face than I expected (blues can be hard to get right in palettes sometimes) and colors like Pink Sands were so pretty, flattering, and interesting. The brand boasts no fallout in these formulas due to mango butter and while this wasn't entirely true when I used a brush, the fallout was minimal. I was really pleasantly surprised by this one and I think a lot of people are going to love it.
Top to bottom: Reflection, Solstice, Ablaze, Golden Ray, Pink Sands, Horizon, Infinite, Shadow
FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color in 'Unlocked', 4 mL – Retail Value $25.00
Be still my beating heart. I am absolutely weak for a loud pink lip. W.E.A.K. And Fenty Beauty over-delivered with this bold hot pink in a matte formula that has made me rethink how I feel about matte finishes in general. First, this glass bottle is just gorgeous. The special doe-foot applicator makes precise placement easy-peasy and the extra-long silver cap feels so fancy. The formula itself is one swipe opaque and though you get that matte finish, it never truly dries down, meaning your lips stay soft and velvety with zero flakiness. I have been wearing this regularly since I opened it and the compliments I get are near-constant.
I love you.
tarte SEA Jelly Glaze Anytime Lip Mask in 'Toasted Coconut', 10 g – Retail Value $16.00
This jelly balm is basically at the opposite end of the lip spectrum from the Fenty Beauty lippie above, but it serves a much different purpose. This is the sort of thing you could wear with your naked/natural face out for brunch or even sleep in it as a lip mask. It is thicker and smells very beachy but in a good way. And it conditioned my lips beautifully. I can see myself loving this even more in the winter when my lips are sad and cracked, and I need a little memory of summertime.
It didn't really look like anything on my lips in terms of color, but I didn't mind.
The Lyfestyle Co. Beach Mist, 4 oz – Retail Value $42.00
My last item was a beach mist meant to be used on skin after sun exposure. I am generally wary of mists like this because they so often have alcohol and if you got a little too much sun, that can be a nightmare. This one is alcohol-free and filled with skin soothers like glycerin, panthenol, aloe, and cucumber. It also has antioxidants that help protect your skin from damage. The scent was a lavender peppermint which (while not beachy) had a cooling tingle.
Verdict: This was a really great IPSY Glam Bag Plus bag. I ended up really liking everything! My favorite item is by far that Fenty Beauty matte lipstick but the palette and the cleanser were close seconds. The lip mask felt like a summertime treat and so did the mist. The value here was pretty awesome: $155 for a $25 bag. And the mix of big and indie brands felt like a great balance this month.
